New QB Doesn’t Bother O-Line

Guard Logan Mankins isn’t too concerned the change in quarterbacks will hinder the offensive line.

An offensive line is a sensitive subject, both for fans and, of course, offensive linemen.

Talking to offensive linemen, they’ll often say the slightest distraction or disruption on a team’s front line can cause chaos. They preach how time is needed to build cohesion and unity to become their best selves.

So when a coach — say Lovie Smith — begins juggling bad quarterbacks in a desperate effort to save face, that can cause disruption among the big uglies.

Joe talked to a couple of offensive linemen today, and while they didn’t say a new/old quarterback returning to the starting gig is the desired move, they also waved off any hint that the move might set them back just a little.

“I dont think so,” veteran guard Logan Mankins said. “I think we are in a situation where both quarterbacks can play so we are fortunate in that.”

Right tackle Demar Dotson noted he and his fellow offensive linemen have to worry about their responsiblities more than who is calling signals behind them.

“I dont think it is a determent,” Dotson said of flipping quarterbacks. “Whoever is back there, we have a job to do. We have to protect those guys and open up holes for the running bakcs. It doesn’t matter who they put back there, we still have a job to do.”

Time will tell if this is a move of a desperate coach or a savvy call. Based on how McCown played Pop Warner-like in his previous starts, Joe can’t see how this move makes the Bucs a better team.

Well maybe Lovie will come up with a new formation…instead of the RB setting up behind the QB….Glennon can set up behind McClown…and grab the high snaps…..also when Lovie decides to change QB’s….it will simply calling for Glennon up and McClown back….

  2. DB55 Says:

The old 50 cent formation, huh rastamon?

  3. RastaMon Says:

Well…maybe Lovie will call for McClown and Glennon to set up as L & R HB…no QB…the ball is then snapped between the two….whichever gets to the ball first gets to be the QB on that play….

The team is a little bit more together than at the start of the season. Will be highly informative to see how McCown plays with where the team is now.

  5. Skyline Crew Says:

I’m sure it doesn’t matter to the O-Line because they are still learning how to block.

Who knows. Maybe McCown will play like he did in spot duty in Chicago again…right?? I mean…1-7 season…what’s it hurt? We should still be in prime position to draft a franchise QB this spring regardless. The ability of this staff to produce a stellar draft i 2015 will determine their and the Bucs futures. They just need to stay out of free agency…just stay out.

What will you Buc fans and Joe have to say if the Bucs beat the Falcons 31 to 17

Even if they draft well, can they actually coach them up? This team has looked competitive only a minority of the time.

I agree about FA though. Can we trade cap space for more draft picks lol? smdh.

The job was Glennon’s to win or lose and let’s face facts folks, he didn’t do anything in the last few weeks to say that the job was his. If anything, during the last coule of games, his performance regressed. Missing Evans on those two passes hurt as did the ghost boink off the OL’s helmet that I still haven’t seen.
Running OOB without giving more of an effort didn’t help his cause either.
Still, if McCown comes in and starts turning the ball over like he did in the first few games I wouldn’t be surprised to see Smith go back to Glennon.
McCown may very well just be playing for his job next year at this point.

Newbucfan I for one will say yes. Yaaaaaaaaaaa. Alright.
I don’t care who plays behind center! DL, OL, safety whatever. I root for the team, not a player.

Whenever the coaches don’t do what Joe the master coach thinks you turn into a stuck little Bitch. I was preaching patience with MG and he got his chance and seemed to improve then regressed. Let’s at least try to win and give JM another chance. I no longer believe MG can be a legit starting QB.

Dude is such a professional. After being with Bra-dy for 8 years, I’m positive he’s completely full up to the rafters with sh!t.

Be honest, Joe. After he said that, you guys made eye contact and chuckled together under your breath’s.

I love Mankins’ attitude, it doesn’t matter who the QB is, or if it just blocking for a FG, he’s going to block the same way everytime… with apathy.
