Lovie Smith Speaks
November 10th, 2014Another beating, another trip to the One Buc Palace podium.
Lovie Smith faced the music today, but the song remains the same, although there were no questions about whether Lovie saw enough from Josh McCown to keep him as the starting quarterback.
You can hear all of Lovie’s chat below, via WDAE-AM 620 audio. Lovie heaps plenty of praise on Mike Evans, and addresses sloppiness, social media foolishness, and more.
November 10th, 2014 at 8:35 pm
It’s like watching a slow moving train wreck !
November 10th, 2014 at 8:47 pm
I don’t believe Lovie has figured out yet or admitted to himself where the real problem started before it snowballed into this season.
I believe he better look back and look a little deeper if he wants to fix it.
It may be painful but if he wants to fix it, patience is not the only answer here.
November 10th, 2014 at 8:48 pm
Re-watched the game… not a bad game by McCown.
I blame the defense because they had at least 10 3rd downs to force a stop and continued to fail to stop the Falcons.
The secondary really sucks.
November 10th, 2014 at 8:51 pm
Lovie will make it right, fans are just pissed because we have been so bad for so long.
I think Lovie will make it happen,, eventually. I also thought Schiano deserved a third year…
November 10th, 2014 at 9:00 pm
These days I think I’d rather not hear Lovie Smith speak.
November 10th, 2014 at 9:15 pm
Have I missed something? Is Robert Herron still on the team? I know Murphy is the latest toy but why is the room at least appearing on special teams?
November 10th, 2014 at 9:18 pm
@ SteveK
I salute you for expressing your very brave and unpopular opinion…..I happen to be one of the very few that agree with you on both points….Schiano & Lovie.
What we are dealing with is unmet expectations….and Lovie is the coach and he will take the blame.
I am certain the Glazers will stick with him longer than Schiano and he will eventually turn this around.
OK…..now everyone else can curse, berate, insult and call me an idiot…..but, if you’re a fan….you’ve got to hope SteveK & I are right!!!
November 10th, 2014 at 9:19 pm
Lovie will not get this turned around. Far too many things wrong and after hearing this IDIOT week in and week out saying his team did a lot of good things further drives home that statement. This guy is delusional. We need someone to come in a drop a hammer on these soft ass patsies.
November 10th, 2014 at 9:26 pm
We had “a hammer” of a coach, and he was fired last year.
November 10th, 2014 at 9:27 pm
“although there were no questions about whether Lovie saw enough from Josh McCown”
__________________________________________________
Why didn’t you ask that question? He listened to your plea to bench Michael Johnson so why wouldn’t he offer an explanation to you about McCown?
November 10th, 2014 at 9:37 pm
#SHIANO ! deserved 1 more year after that mersa and freemon shit. I think . was not a fan for lovie to begin with! JUST SAYING!
November 10th, 2014 at 9:38 pm
@SteveK and Tampabaybucfan
I have to say, I’m impressed with your faith and reason. I’m inclined to agree with you both. I’ve been hard on the team because I’ve been disappointed in the results thus far (who hasn’t?) but I have confidence that L&L will turn this around. Not this year, but they’ll turn it around.
It’s interesting/depressing that the disappointment has manifested itself into irate name-calling and degradation of the entire team, mostly by “fans” who likely have less than 1/10th of the football experience/knowledge of the coaches and staff of the team they follow. Yet they still manage to log on to these (and other) pages daily to insult and endorse the termination of professionals who (I have to believe) are trying their very hardest to succeed in the most difficult, most competitive team sports league in the world.
The results need to arrive. Winning = success. They can do it. GO BUCS.
November 10th, 2014 at 9:41 pm
ALSO! I too don’t think this pinhead lovie will do much for this organization! waste of money period!
November 10th, 2014 at 9:45 pm
@BucFanInArkansas
PIG SOOIE!!!
November 10th, 2014 at 9:48 pm
@bucsfanarkansas. that’s cool hope so. but there is just so many bassackward! things with this team that like u said anybody with football knowledge can see! one stupid thing after another u know wtf!
November 10th, 2014 at 9:55 pm
One thing we must have is continuity
“the unbroken and consistent existence or operation of something over a period of time.”
We had Gruden, Morris, Schiano now Lovie…..we absolutely need to stick with him for a while (probably 3 years)….no matter how it feels…its the right thing to do. He has a track record of success (undeniable)……I know down deep you’d rather me be right.
So…..hold you nose,
November 10th, 2014 at 9:57 pm
How can anyone really believe this will get any better when you see this same crap week after week.
Bad coach = bad team
Worst buc team I have seen in 20 years as a fan
Lovie = Fail
November 10th, 2014 at 9:58 pm
@Famous Jameis or Bust
I mostly agree. Well, pretty much completely.
I will add this though…Banks is improving. It took Barber five years to get this system. Banks is nowhere close yet, but for his second year I think he’s ahead of where Barber was at the same point in his career. There were moments it felt like he was locking things down.
I point the poor defense finger directly at Frazier. He isn’t the guy Lovie wanted originally. The guy he wanted will be available in the off season. Either fire Frazier, or make rod the Asst Head Coach.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:00 pm
Hold your nose, have a drink….a toke…..a snort….a lobotomy…..take some pills….get a table dance….hire a hooker….slap your grandmother…bitch, moan & cry….take to the streets….wear a paper bag…buy a billboard….but
LOVIE IS HERE TO STAY!!!!…..Just ask the Glazers……(FYI…they own the team)
November 10th, 2014 at 10:02 pm
@mike
I get it. And I get the frustration. But I’m not in the facility, in the meetings, or on the practice field. So while I’m disappointed with the results, and there’s things that “look” wrong to me, I’m not privy to what was planned, what was coached, what was taught, and how that all differed from how it was all manifested on game day.
I believe that these professionals will do their jobs and fix these problems and fill the holes and right the ship. More importantly, this fire/hire/fire cycle every 2-3 years HAS to stop!
L&L didn’t create this mess OR our fan-base’s frustration. Those seeds were sown in January of 2009 when Gruden got the boot. But they ARE working to fix it. Some of their solutions will work, some won’t. But I believe they’ll get it right.
@Tampabaybucfan
WPS!!!
(Thinking of changing the name to “RazorBuc”)
November 10th, 2014 at 10:05 pm
@Tampabaybucfan
Nailed it right there.
@BuccaneerBonzai: GREAT points. And don’t forget, Barber started off as a nickel for most of his first few years. Banks is coming into his own.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:12 pm
How could so many Buc fans be so wrong…..after all…thee was nearly a unanimous positive support of the decision to hire Lovie Smith…..most in the media agreed…..now its…..”Lets fire him he’s a bum….
The answer…..You weren’t wrong…..give it time and you’ll be right again!!!
November 10th, 2014 at 10:21 pm
Sup fellas. If you’ve seen my comments since April you know there’s been no bigger critic of this team than me. It’s no longer fun and obviously talking crap about the players/leaders when you know they’re reading doesn’t matter.
I want to give my team a hug. Beating them down is not effective or productive. Now I want to give them a shoulder to cry on and a listening ear, possibly even a maxi pad if needed. Lol couldn’t help myself.
I’ve learned soooo much about football this year that I am grateful to Lovie and the crew. So free hugs to the team. I with you guys, beat the Redskins.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:22 pm
Yep. “Perfect fit” and “logical choice” and “open secret” and “best candidate” were ALL thrown around liberally less than a year ago.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:25 pm
Maybe we need to start a Lovie cheerleading squad to have him voted Coach Of The Year since he is so wonderful. Then we can sell some property in Fantasyland to our fan club. In Lovie We Trust.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:32 pm
Train wreck
November 10th, 2014 at 10:37 pm
Where were all the warnings about Lovie being incompetent…..a fool, …terrible coach….loser……& poor evaluator of talent…..non-motivator….and complete idiot?
I wish you guys were around on JBF in January….maybe your voices would have convinced the Glazers to hire someone else…..
November 10th, 2014 at 10:41 pm
Tbbf
I hadn’t found JBF yet. Initially I thought it was a good hire until he fired the oline and hired tedford and frazier then the FAs then preseason. Didn’t take a genius to know it was going to turn out this way.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:46 pm
This just in : I’m all in favor of whatever Lovie’s been doing wrong. I don’t CARE if they lose anymore. I’ll root for them to win going into the game knowing they will just lose in the end. Then if they win they win, BUT GO Jets too.
Oh yes Go Jets!

And you never saw what hit you after you found JBF.
@Joe you need to fly a banner over Ray Jay to bring more traffic to this lonely site. Seeing how our team can’t do that for you anymore…Ha!
November 10th, 2014 at 10:49 pm
@ DB55
I know you hope you’re wrong and he turns it around!!! Now….give ’em a hug like you said you would”…..
November 10th, 2014 at 10:49 pm
Anybody else watching MNF? Isn’t it weird that Chip Kelly can win with a QB that the hapless Jets didn’t even want? It’s like he’s a real coach or something and QBs perform better when the defense has no clue what’s coming at them.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:51 pm
Let’s say you had a struggling team that had recently overturned several coaching regimes and you hired a “re-tread” with limited playoff success to try to right the ship and he went 5-11 his first year… Would you pull the plug and find someone else or stick it out? The Patriot organization is glad it decided to ride out a rough start with a guy who only had ONE winning season as a Head Coach before taking the reins. Of course, finding a HOF Franchise QB didn’t hurt, either.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:53 pm
See…..fans that don’t support Lovie have a choice…
Be right and the team spirals downward for the next 3 years
Be wrong and Lovie turns it around….
Firing Lovie isn’t a choice….unless you’re holding 51% of the stock.
So all the fans calling for him to be fired…….take a few laxitives because you will be constipated for a while…..
November 10th, 2014 at 11:08 pm
My choice would be to take the blue pill and enter the Matrix where it’s all good. Facing reality sucks. Apathy has set in.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:10 pm
Hey…..Sure, I could be wrong about Lovie…..hope I’m right…..the other choice is to feel bad for the next 3 years….I choose to hope. Maybe its because I’ve been through this so many times since 76……went 0-26 then hosted the NFC Championship 3 years later…..
For me…the choice is easy…..support the coach as long as the owners do…not blindly without criticism….but with some respect for the position and the very difficult task at hand.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:11 pm
Can I hear an Amen???
November 10th, 2014 at 11:17 pm
Amen Brother TBBF!
I’m right there with you. I still have the ticket stub from the first home win against the St. Louis Cardinals. We’ve seen some hard times.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:21 pm
Hey Lovie,
Before gunnin for your dudes to get TURNOVERS, how about preaching FUNDAMENTALS 1ST??!
Before trying to coach TURNOVERS, how about COACHING these dudes on how to GET OFF THE FIELD ON 3rd DOWNS??!
Coach up the little things first! NO PENALTIES! NO 3rd & Long CONVERSIONS! Solid TACKLING!!!! THEN maybe start preaching TURNOVERS!!!
BACK TO BASICS lovie!!!!
November 10th, 2014 at 11:23 pm
@ Dave Pear
I have the program for the first game (preseason) against the LA Rams….had them flown in for a party….we lost….I think 20-3…..but were excited…..the only thing more exciting was the BiCentennial Concert at the Sombrero 7/4/76…..The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac & Loggins & Messina!!!
November 10th, 2014 at 11:24 pm

Thanks….did you notice that Solomon Patton is second in Kickoff Return Yards?
Sort of a dubous honor (so many kickoffs after other team scores)
November 10th, 2014 at 11:32 pm
@TBBF-
I was there…good times.
How about the 77 Zeppelin concert/rainstorm/riot?
Memories.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:37 pm
@ Dave Pear
Was at the Z concert also….but too many Quaaludes to remember much!!!
November 10th, 2014 at 11:39 pm
Some of these posters could use a quaalude or two…..calm them down a bit….even a Buc loss is easier with a Lude…..
November 10th, 2014 at 11:40 pm
Sweet. Probably stumbled into you at some point in my life. Oh well, I have to get up early in the AM. Go Bucs!
November 10th, 2014 at 11:40 pm
Tbbf
I was focused on the WR group. No one liked Benjamin in April, too raw blah blah blah. He has made some outstanding plays. First, breaking mike Jenkins for his first TD and then a few weeks ago he made a sick catch while double covered by Sherman and Earl Thomas.

I just don’t see what you two do. On Offense, 8 of 11 starters are Lovies chosen players – these are Lovies players, and our offense is totally inept. On D, the Bucs were supposed to be not good, but likely very good. They are awful. Schiano’s D was better last year.
What on earth gives you this viewpoint that Lovie will make it right???? TBBF, maybe its that you are both crazy, lol.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:45 pm

Are you the real Dave Pear ’76 Buc Expansion Draft DT?

“I didn’t want to put points on the board” – Lovie Smith
November 10th, 2014 at 11:49 pm
@ Harry
We are crazy…just like the Glazers….that’s why they think the same way we do or they would have simply fired him like Rastamon wanted after 3 games….
We are simply fools hoping he will turn this around….skeptical, of course…but fools nonetheless!!!
November 10th, 2014 at 11:53 pm
@ DB55
Benjamin is the primary #1 reciever and is doing great…..he is targeted much more often than ME13……but will be a great NFL reciever. I like our choice better…Benjamin also has a good QB throwing to him…
November 11th, 2014 at 12:00 am
@TBBF
Any Bucs Fan with sense knows that Lovie is here at least until ’15…
But in the meantime, just show us fans that you can still coach!
From what Ive seen and heard, he’s preaching Take Aways before tackling…. How many times do you see a defender try and punch/strip the ball away only to give the RB/WR another 5,7 yds while they SHOULD JUST WRAP UP!
Get BACK TO BASICS Lovie! ….and Get Marinellis ass in here next year… Dont wanna know how, just get it done!
November 11th, 2014 at 12:47 am
chip kelly makes Lovie Smith look like a child.
November 11th, 2014 at 2:01 am
As I was boarding my plane back this afternoon from TPA I listened the the full presser and I sensed a slight amount of accountability or urgency or give-a-fck that I have yet felt from our heroicly stoic HC. Maybe I heard that wrong?…
November 11th, 2014 at 5:03 am
I will stand behind the team …with a bag over my head until I see improvement. Ever since gruden won the big one its been we are going to turn it around – give us a few years. Bull spit. Lovie lost this team, and the coaches are just as much at fault as some of the players.
November 11th, 2014 at 8:29 am
Once you have become a Bucs fan it’s not like you can just walk away or become a fan of another team. Loyalty runs deep and fans are upset when the losing drags on. That’s a normal reaction.
November 11th, 2014 at 2:41 pm
@ Tampabaybucfan
Some of us were here doing that back in January (voicing concerns over Lovie), but unfortunately it was a very unpopular sentiment quickly rebuked by the nostalgia loving/Schiano hating fans.
That said our best bet is probably to give the guy another season to run the franchise further into the ground and replace more solid players with free agent busts. Then there will be no doubt that firing of Lovie was absolutely warranted if he can’t turn the team around
