Lovie Says Glennon Still QB Of The Future
November 5th, 2014Don’t worry, Mike Glennon Mob.
Lovie Smith offered you hope today.
During today’s media session at One Buc Palace, Tampa Tribune beat writer Woody Cummings had the following exchange with the head coach.
Cummings: Mike is still your quarterback of the future?
Lovie Smith: Nothing has changed, Mike is going back in the same position he was when he started.
So there you have it, Glennon is still the man, after being the man, a time that proved he wasn’t the man enough.
You can hear all of Lovie’s chat below, via the 620wdae.com audio player.
November 5th, 2014 at 5:38 pm
lol I’m sure those comments will play well here. Man he needs to shut up.
November 5th, 2014 at 5:40 pm
I am thoroughly convinced this man has brain damage!
November 5th, 2014 at 5:41 pm
Hahhahhahahahahhahahahahhahaha
Let me catch my breath….
Hahhahahhahahahahhahahahahaah.
Hes the qb of the future like revised has a place on this team in my scheme? Or like Mike Williams isn’t going anywhere? Or like the popular I like my team and this is the same team you’ll see after the deadline?
Hahhahahahahhahha
November 5th, 2014 at 5:42 pm
It’s pretty clear that the safe bet is to just assume the opposite of whatever Lovie says is going to happen will happen instead.
November 5th, 2014 at 5:43 pm
LOVIE’S A BOOB!
At this point, I feel bad for the entire roster, McCown included, having to play for this clown.
November 5th, 2014 at 5:44 pm
Liar Smith at it again. I will say that L&L have said since draft that he’s the guy and the reason they didn’t draft a QB this year
November 5th, 2014 at 5:46 pm
Put a fork in the bucs! See you guys at the draft party.
And with the first round pick the TBB pick Rex Grossman QB (sort of).
November 5th, 2014 at 5:46 pm
I’d be dismayed if Lovie ever said anything that was really frank.
November 5th, 2014 at 5:46 pm
Man of the future…. way way way in the future. Where Glennon is going, we don’t need roads.
Glennon will be throwing to Hester in no time.
Ugh.
MG8!
November 5th, 2014 at 5:54 pm
He is THIS close to getting the “FIRE LOVIE” chants started by the majority.
Keep this imbecile away from the microphone, before he turns RJS into a prison riot.
November 5th, 2014 at 5:57 pm
When lovie got attacked by monkeys on his vacation with his wife I think it f’d his brain. MARIOTA MOB please
November 5th, 2014 at 5:57 pm
and this folks is what happens when loviebama tries to turn thugs into men.
total chaos because lovie is no leader, simply a wordsmith.
his true character is showing even to someone with an iq in the 50’s.
has he ever taken a wonderlicht?
November 5th, 2014 at 5:58 pm
wait, I’m gonna go take a lovie smith right now. anyone have toilet tissue?
November 5th, 2014 at 6:00 pm
Gosh…I really feel for the players…that have listen to Jim Jones…Jonestown, Guyana
November 5th, 2014 at 6:01 pm
this guy is an absolute clown…just shut up
November 5th, 2014 at 6:06 pm
Wowww. This guy will say anything. I liked Lovie and I am trying really hard to give him a chance here, but this is getting laughable. After last week, according to him, a 1-7 football team missed an opportunity, again, but is still not out of anything. Does he really expect people to believe and respond to that. How about, “We can’t win a game. No excuses and we are going to fix it.” And now this? Please. I can’t witness this anymore.
November 5th, 2014 at 6:06 pm
At this point, Glennon was given a chance, this year AND LAST YEAR! And HE BLEW IT!
Glennon got a 2nd Chance, he’s gotten progressively worse as the rest of the O is getting better!
Only fair that McCown gets a 2nd shot, now that the o-line is finally coming together…
Glennon: The Backup QB of the Future
November 5th, 2014 at 6:06 pm
10 September after the Panthers game…
Lovie is in WAY over his head….I listened to his press conference yesterday and was underwhemled by his monotoned empty words…then by chance I listened to a long interview with #55 on all sorts of subject…a stark contrast in leadership and answering questions. Lovie is an empty suit that has been swept to this point in life by his association with the greatness of others. I don’t mean to be harsh…but that is what I see
November 5th, 2014 at 6:08 pm
Lovie, I like you but please show some bravery and say that we will probably be looking for a franchise quarterback in this years draft. Neither Glennon nor McKown have done anything where they can say “what about me??????” So please just tell the fans what they want to hear and don’t tell players who have underperformed that their jobs are safe because us fans don’t really want to jump off the Skyway Bridge anytime soon.
November 5th, 2014 at 6:14 pm
Hopefully Glennon’s future is as our long term back up and we draft a QB in the first round this draft. Although it makes no sense to me why he couldn’t finish out the season. Maybe their just trying to get a look at both QB’s this season to determine our backup for next year. By the way I think this is the worst QB controversy I can ever think of.

Just listened to 55 as well, we need to find this man a gig at One Buc!

No Cusing but lying and deceit is just fine – Lovie Smith
November 5th, 2014 at 6:26 pm
Why did we fire Jon Gruden again?
Pat Kirwin says, replace talent with talent…..
November 5th, 2014 at 6:42 pm
Time to start treating this team like a whore from the bar. Don’t get your emotions into it. Just go with the flow and enjoy the ride.
November 5th, 2014 at 6:51 pm
It doesn’t matter. Let McCown start. Glennon was struggling and I believe part of that had to do with Arroyo’s terrible play calling, low percentage/ high reward plays. Can’t convert on 3rd down with too much risk, throwing fades and back shoulder passes with ONLY Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans as the WRs.
So, lets see if McCown can do something. Then we will know if it was Glennon or Arroyo.
Also, Glennon was falling apart a bit too…. so Lovie is just saying, maybe he needs a breather.
This isn’t the first time a struggling QB got bench. And it shouldn’t be the last. I expect if McCown looks horrible over the next 2 games, then Glennon would get a 4rd opportunity. We still have 8 games left.
If McCown does well, then good… but bad for our draft prospects LOL.
If McCown does poorly, then Lovie better hurry Glennon back in and make us forget the benching or he is gonna be on a sizzling hot seat.
Lastly, I hate the concept that NFL QBs are fragile when benched. It is so stupid. In baseball, I don’t if you are the Cy Young winner, if you get shelled in the first few innings, then you get benched. And guess what? They come back and start again. I think struggling QBs should get pulled more often. Baseball pitchers can handle it.
November 5th, 2014 at 6:53 pm
I’m sure I heard Joe say on the Tuesday radio show, “I don’t care what Lovie SAYS, I watch what he DOES.” If true, why have any blog post that is centered around something he says?
November 5th, 2014 at 6:54 pm
I’m way past listening to Lovie and his attempts to convince anybody of anything. He has about the same credibility as a tarot card or palm reader.
November 5th, 2014 at 7:01 pm
This is BEYOND idiotic. It’s a lost season. If Glennon’s the guy, he should be out there getting experience. It’s not like McCown’s leading anyone to the playoffs. Starting McCown, even if he wins a few games does nothing for the long term benefit of the team.
November 5th, 2014 at 7:04 pm
All players who don’t play well enough to win should be benched after a couple or three mediocre/bad performances…..
We need to develop Pamphile & Edwards……Sims and a couple of other backups.
I do see this as a sign that we may draft a QB next year….but not necessarily with our top pick…..perhaps later in the 1st if we trade our pick or a sleeper in later rounds to compete for the starting job with Glennon.
November 5th, 2014 at 7:07 pm
But who’s going to be the Head Coach of the future? I have a feeling who won’t be.
November 5th, 2014 at 7:11 pm
Yea he also said he wasn’t getting it done at QB
November 5th, 2014 at 7:12 pm
Glennon will be a back up till he leaves he stinks
November 5th, 2014 at 7:15 pm
Guys, knowing that Lovie likes veteran players and not young QB’s, do you really think that Lovie is going to spend a high 1st round pick on a QB, or let a young guy play anytime soon? NO
November 5th, 2014 at 7:15 pm
“If Glennon’s the guy, he should be out there getting experience.”
But he’s not THE GUY… so he’s not out there.
What are you some of you people seeing that I’m not??? I see Evans and the O-Line and RBs getting better… While Glennon gets worse!
Those of you chumps that wanted to nickname the ‘Cannon’??? What games are you watching???
Bottom line… Glennon got his 2nd chance, BLEW IT! Now its time to see if ‘The Jawline’ can make the most of his 2nd chance…
If anything, I just want to see:
Our o-line continue to gel…
Evans get some passes IN STRIDE!….
A QB with better vision to make it to his 3rd and 4th options (ASJ & Sims/Rainey/Murphy)
And 3rd down conversions by a QB with the BALLS to RUN UPFIELD!
…..and I wanna see our D pressure improve.
Dont care about winning at 1-7, just want to see IMPROVEMENT! And when the draft comes, either we’re in the Top 3rd to get Winston, or we trade up to get Winston!
November 5th, 2014 at 7:21 pm
“But who’s going to be the Head Coach of the future? I have a feeling who won’t be.”
I’m starting to make peace with the fact that Lovie will get AT LEAST 2 years… So I’m gonna lay off on him a bit….
The Offense (minus Glennon) is looking better…
The pass rush is looking a little better…
ST needs to get its sht together…
So Lovie, 8 games left, doesnt have to win out… Just show us some REAL IMPROVEMENT! So we have something to Bank on in 2015 when Winston gets here…
November 5th, 2014 at 7:23 pm
“Guys, knowing that Lovie likes veteran players and not young QB’s, do you really think that Lovie is going to spend a high 1st round pick on a QB, or let a young guy play anytime soon? NO”
Do you STILL not get that the Billionaire Brothers have FINAL SAY??? If they want Winston, or even Mariota, you think Lovie can stand in their way??? Fucc outta here…
November 5th, 2014 at 7:26 pm
@The Ether
I agree, Glennon blew his chance. Aside from the Pittsburgh and New Orleans games, he sucked. And cost us a win this past Sunday.
But that is not the point. Lovie says Glennon is “the future at QB”. If he truly is, then he needs all the experience he can get. What better way to learn from his mistakes than a hands-on approach? Yeah looking at a clipboard will help him develop a lot. Starting McCown benefits nobody. He might not even be here in a season or two. If Lovie truly sees Glennon as the future, start him now. Let him work with the offense as much as he can, let them get used to working with each other. If he sucks (which he has been indicating), you draft a guy.
Lovie claiming Glennon is the future, then benching him for a 35 year old career backup who isn’t that much better than him, if at all, when you have a 1-7 record makes no sense.
And I think it was Lapdog Licht who have him the name “Cannon”.
November 5th, 2014 at 7:32 pm
He’s our BACKUP QB of the future…
He’ll be fine coming in to replace our starter(in case he gets hurt) if Lovie get’s this defense playing the way he wants it to. Hell, he took Rex Grossman to the Super Bowl so i’m assuming a 50% completion percentage with 250 yds, 2 TDs and an INT would suffice!
But no one really believes Lovie. He just probably realizes how humiliating it is to lose a job to Josh McCown! He’s just tryin to help a brutha out!
“It’s as simple as that” – Lovie Smith

You need to differentiate the game, and the Politics of the Game…
I have NO INTEREST in Lovie’s words… they hold NO WEIGHT… You should know this by now…
Lovie’s move was not only to give our team a spark, but also to divert all that negativity directed towards him…
…And if McCown comes back into the game, and actually makes sht happen, then that will Benefit the Offensive players & even the D… So we’ll have something in place for our new QB next year….
If McCown is no better/or worse than Glennon, then we’ll retain Glennon as a backup and most likely be in position to get a top pick in each round of the 2015 draft.
November 5th, 2014 at 7:43 pm
@TheEther what shot did Glennon have and blow if anything people should give glennon PASS FOR surviving SUCH AWFUL O LINE WHO PLAYS A MARIGINAL Game on Sunday and unfortunately for Glennon struggled but after dealing with horrible coaching and terrible play calling on the offense glennon deserves a chance ! Lovie Smith is a bad coach and can’t even own up to his mistakes ! Glennon may have not played lights out but he did put the bucs in position to Win the Saints ,Vikings and even the Browns game! However the defense couldn’t close any of those games lmfao ! It’s not Glennon that is awful its this entire coaching including Lovie Smith . I hope Glennon is traded for his sake before he’s runied like Josh Freeman was ! Ps even if we draft a Winston or Mariotta does any really believe Lovie coaching will make a difference ?
November 5th, 2014 at 7:44 pm
“But he’s not THE GUY… so he’s not out there.”
Right, which is why it’s beyond idiotic that Smith just today referred to Glennon once again as the Quarterback of the Future.
November 5th, 2014 at 7:46 pm
We already know that McCown will not be starting in a couple seasons, probably not even next season. This offense currently has a broken Tedford scheme under Arroyo rather than the actual Tedford scheme. We will undoubtedly have a new OC next season, and that means a new scheme. A scheme everybody on offense will have to learn. I don’t think McCown coming in and lighting it up ( which I highly doubt he will) helps as much as you think. The main offensive group that needs to develop is the O-line. Bad QB play or not, they still have to block the same.

Like I said, It’s the politics of the game…
There’s 60 minutes on Sundays that we pay attention to… Then theres the other 10,020 minutes the rest of the week… Where Lovie’s gotta keep the fans calm, say the right things…. And theres no denying that its been BS so far! So why should this statement be any different???
From this point on, I’m only gonna judge this dude by how much we move forward or backwards on Sundays.
November 5th, 2014 at 7:56 pm
Sigh… Glennon just frustrates the heck outta ya doesn’t he? He throws a beautiful dime to Evans in the end zone for a TD then he underthrows him woefully bad and displays the most pathetic pocket awarenesssstepping right up into a defensive player for a stupid sack. I just don’t know what to make of MG8. He’s still young but man it’s like one step forward two steps back with him.
I expect McCown to play well with Sims back and with Evans and ASJ with more experience under their belts. Lane is also back so we can pound the ball better and open up the playaction passing game. I also wouldn’t mind seeing Sims and Rainey in the backfield to realky put pressure on the flats and open up some intermediate high low route combinations with short crossing routes and Sims matched uP on LBs. That is of course if McCown can throw the da#@ ball further than 8 yards.
Wow has Mankins been a disappointment thus far. From his subpar passive runblocking to the blocked field goal, aside ftom Collins he’s been our worst lineman thus far. Maybe his heart is still in NE. Tim Wright looks thrilled in NE huh?
Our defensive” looked” better but remember that was against a team without their top 2 offensive players in Cameron and Gordon. Banks is really turning the corner, he’s a perfect Cover 2 corner. Verner soesnt look 100% healthy and he is too aggressive. He got torched bad trying to jump a route where he had underneath help. Foster has got to go, he is downright horrible in coverage. He is a 3-4 ilb, heis nowhere near athletic enough to be a 4-3 ilb in a cover 2 scheme. Gholston continues to play well, he would be a terror as a 3-4 DE, he just isnt quick enough to be a successful 4-3 DE. LVD appears to be a step slower this year, it looks like he thinks he has too many responsibilities. Gmac lol, dude is a beast, get him some help please. If we do while hhe’s in his prime he will threaten the sack record. He is unblockable in obvious passing situations.
We have a lot of talent but we have no dogs on this team. We need a couple nasty alpha dawgs who refuse to lose who are mean. Lvd and Gmac are soft spoken, we need a voice an attitude. We will be bottom dwellers until we find one.

I agree that we’ll most likely have a new scheme next year… But its about giving these young guys Evans, ASJ, Sims, our o-line is still in the fetal stage as a unit…
Lets just have the players in place for our new QB & OC next year…
November 5th, 2014 at 9:33 pm
Glennon needs to go to a real team with real coaches and he might just become a star. Kinda if like Williams, young, etc..
November 5th, 2014 at 11:29 pm
Lovie Lies!
November 5th, 2014 at 11:34 pm
If he truly believed in that, he would let the kid take his lumps and let him play out the rest of the season. This is Lovie talking out the side of his mouth again. Quite frankly i’m getting tired of it.
November 6th, 2014 at 4:54 am
He’s benching Glennon, and starting McCown.
There is something there-,that someone didn’t understand?
If anyone at press conference, having heard that- didn’t understand what it meant- I’d be apt to tell that fool anything, just for my Own amusement.
Glennon got his second extended look.
He ain’t the answer. Defenses know he can’t throw more than 20 yards accurately. If you pressure him – he will immediately go to his checkdowns.
Time to move on. Lovie wants a couple more wins- and someone running the offense correctly. McCown can do that.
McCown can stretch the field, and let Our huge Receiving corp outmuscle everyone for the ball.
McCown isn’t afraid in the pocket- and he’s mobile.
Glennon is now and forever more the backup.
So obvious- only a fool wouldn’t understand
November 6th, 2014 at 5:02 am
You guys really don’t think about it.
You should.
It doesn’t do anything positive for Anyone- for Lovie to public ally announce
“I’m benching Glennon-he ain’t the guy- I’m starting McCown!”
Why would he ever say that? To piss off and embarrass his young Backup QB?
He doesn’t OWE the Media anything! They are never on his side anyway!’
He doesn’t owe the Fans either.
Everyone will see who starts Sunday- at game time.
Anyone who to stupid to figure out what it means- will probably be bitching and confused on “JoeBucsFan” anyway.
What decisions he makes-is no ones business but his.
None of your jobs are on the line
November 6th, 2014 at 12:25 pm
Don’t forget folks the season starts in November. Where’s the fire Dovie billboards. If its ok for Schiano then by all means its ok for Dovie. Please quit showing his face with that dumb idiotic look. As much as I would like to see Gruden back I’m afraid that ship has sailed. Thanks Glazers. You sure showed him didn’t you. You bunch of clowns. I’d even welcome Schino back. I wish the Glazers would sell the team to someone who knows what there doing.

Good post Capt Tim.
