Jameis Watch: Jailbreak And Center Change

November 17th, 2014

jameis winston 1113Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, national champion James Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

It’s Joe’s regular nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida.

Joe’s not sure if anything distracts Jameis Winston. Forget about all the off-field nonsense and fan taunts. Joe’s more concerned with what’s happening on the field.

As Corey Clark of NolesSports.com noted after Jimbo Fisher’s news conference today, Winston played with a new center on Saturday night, and his O-line has been a “jailbreak” many times this season.

Hmm, Winston might fit right in with the Bucs’ shaky O-line.

Enjoy Clark’s video below, or here.

Jameis is athletic but comes with no guarantees. Buyer beware.

Jameis the Thievin’ Rapist and Jailbreak in the title….how appropriate!

There are never any guarantees. Ahem, RG3, ahem.

  4. Alexstotle Says:

You should make a Mariota watch too. You know, a good Guy who can be trusted.

  5. HawaiianBuc Says:

I’ve been all for Winston due to his talent, but I’m starting to waver a bit on that. He’s looked much more inaccurate this year versus last year, which worries me. I’ve had enough of inaccurate QB’s. I would still be happy if we drafted him, but I won’t be unhappy if we win too many games and can’t.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe….it’s time for a poll….without one, this daily article is quickly becoming a farce.

You do polls on JBF readers confidence in Lovie.

I wil continue to request a poll as long as the “Jameis Watch” continues.

My suspicion is that Winston would do poorly….perhaps that is why you shy away from polling on the subject.

  7. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

    I LOVE Jameis Watch.

  8. Sick of this $hit Says:

Until Winston is convicted of something, you cant hold anything against him. Hes got more guts going out every week and playing with the fans all over him, and the entire team leaning on him. Seems like if you arent a Noles fan then you automatically want to see this guy fail. Im sure the NFL team execs that may have a shot at drafting him this Spring are crawling so deep into all the allegations and his history that if there is something there, they will find it. So, I guess we will see come draft day. If he falls out of the first round then we will know that somebody did find something, and they are staying far away from him or any drama he could bring to the club.

I think Joe should have Queen’s We Are The Champions playing in the background after we click read more.

  10. Hellhammer Says:

The Bucs are probably gonna win another 2-3 games so there’s really no reason to think the Bucs have a realistic chance to draft the dude.

  11. Dave Pear Says:

    @TBBF,
I’m all for a poll even though I think it is an excercise in futility at this point. When we win the rest of our games and make it to the playoffs our chances to draft Winston will diminish drastically. Just saying.

  12. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

I’m all for Winston punching the Gators in the mouth in a couple weeks. Can’t wait.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Dave Pear

Are you the Dave Pear….’76 Bucs Expansion Draft DT?

On the poll….those that are reluctant to do polls are usually fearful of the results.

  14. Howard Cosell Says:

Another year of Joe falling in love only to have his heart dashed upon the rocks in the draft and then launching a tirade of angry jilted posts on the site.

I’ll say this: I would take Winston way way before JFF (last years BFF)
but I’d be super nervous about the character issues.
Realistically I expect the Bucs to miss the top 5 on a late run,
so we’ll miss Mariotta and Winston (unless Winston falls like Johnny did)

  15. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

“On the poll….those that are reluctant to do polls are usually fearful of the results.”

Or it could just be that same old situation TBBF. Joe writes about what he wants to write about.

You might get your poll sometime in April though.

  16. abdominal snowman Says:

There are no guarantees is the draft, period. He is a high risk/high reward kind of talent. I think he will excellent though in the NFL, he is not a system qb like mariota. He is the most pro ready qb available. Only concern besides off-field issues is he has a freak in cannon. Idk how receivers even catch his intermediate
passes. Probably catch it out of fear that if they don’t it might go through them.

  17. OMG I MISS SCHIANO Says:

I agree with the ‘Marriota Watch’… He’s a way better overall prospect than Winston. I suspect the Joes haven’t seen much of Marriota in action or we’d be hearing about how he’s one of the greatest athletes EVER at the position, who has the accuracy of an Aaron Rodgers and the character of Idk someone with really good character… C’mon, Joes

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ 87

Ultimately….the only poll that counts is L&L & the Glazers….and, somehow……I think it comes down to Lovie.

If McCown has a few more good games…..we won’t be drafting a QB wiith our first pick….

  19. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

Joe and I have seen enough of Mariota to know which one is the better QB.

  20. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

This team has made so many dumb moves in it’s history it would not surprise me if they are sitting there at 3 and don’t a QB.

TBBF…”If McCown has a few more good games.” That’s wishful thinking.

  21. ddneast Says:

The only thing that bothers me about Winston’s past is the rape allegation. That isn’t kid stuff. And the way it happened stinks like rotten fish after a Red Tide outbreak. Even though he might have gotten away with it criminal wise, I wouldn’t be surprised if it costs him a cool million civilly when he settles out of court.
Besides for that his accuracy has been off this year. He has thrown more picks and he doesn’t seem to wake up until the second half. We just let a No. 1 pick go who had the same problems.

BCS National Championship Offensive MVP VS. Alamo Bowl MVP

    You make the call.

  24. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

There is only 2 things that I don’t like about Jameis. His over confidence on the field at times and the rape allegations (and they are just that allegations).

The reason why I’m bothered by the allegations is that it will always be hung around his neck like Big Ben by opposing teams fans. I don’t want to listen to the constant rape talk from other fans while I’m at the game. Then again Steelers fans don’t seem to be all that bothered by it. Then again I used to go on NFL.com’s comments all the time and read fans calling him Rapistberger. I don’t think I want to have to deal with that. People got over Kobe and Big Ben though. I rarely see anyone calling him Rapistberger anymore.

As far as his over confidence. I don’t exactly know if it’s a bad trait to have in the NFL. I also think that once he has pro caliber WR’s he will only get better.

Overall it’s a risk I’m willing to take.

  25. Mr. Patrick Says:

    Jameis Winston = Ryan Leaf

  26. Eric Says:

I think the inaccuracy this year is due to a lot less protection and not as many weapons.

Somehow the man keeps winning. That’s not a bad trait.

I’d love to have him. He’s at his best with the game on the line.

If you look at the timeline and the multiple contradictory statements the rape accuser gave its just not possible to hold him liable on it. I don’t think Major Harding will, although he is one of the most tight ass judges I’ve ever appeared before. The other stuff is stupid and troubling but damn the man can play.

The guy from Oregon is good too. Super athlete. I’d be happy with either one. Miles better than what we have.

With either one we’d be no worse than 5-5 right now IMO.

  27. Dreambig Says:

During the game the other night, the announcers put up a stat that the last time Winston lost a game was in 2011. That’s insane! The man is a gamer and despite the immature antics off the field, when you watch him on the sidelines supporting his team mates you can see how much heart and passion to win that this kid has! I wish him luck and hope he grows up in time to have a great career. Kinda scary though that he will be a multi millionaire at an immature 22 or 23 years old.

  28. Delson Says:

I wonder how well he will take his first loss since 2011 in Tampa Bay.

  29. Delson Says:

Like I said I’m all for drafting a qb this draft be it mariotta or winston I just hope we don’t get stuck in a conservative offense. Our running game is horrible.

  30. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

It’s a tough call with this kid. No questioning his talent at the collegiate level, but he can’t help an NFL team if he’s suspended for a few games in the NFL (look at who the commissioner is…do you really think Winston won’t be on his radar after all the allegations?). Dude is bound to make some bonehead decisions once he’s a multi-millionaire that won’t sit well with “the Warden”

  31. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    Team Winston.

I love all the hate. Can’t wait for all the complaints after we draft him.

  32. StPeteBucsFan Says:

“if there is something there, they will find it.”

You people are something!!! They HAVE FOUND IT!!! The only contested story is the alleged rape. And while that is the most serious charge as well as the most controversial in terms of “he said she said”, the rest of the crap is not!!

We can debate whether to take a chance on Jameis. I get that. But please stop trying to change facts. Jameis IS an incredibly talented young athlete perhaps even a generational player, nobody can deny that.

Jameis is also a totally irresponsible idiot who has won the Ovarian lottery bigtime. He’s destined to by a millionaire, idolized by many, with all the chicks he could ever want…almost like the old MTV song…money for nothing and your chicks for free.

And what does this cement head do with that opportunity? He tries to flush it down the drain with immature, OBNOXIOUS actions.

People who have to work for a living, who weren’t blessed with that physical skill Jameis got at birth for NOTHING that he did, get understandable frustrated with you FSU co-dependents constantly making him out to be a poor misunderstood youth. BULLSPIT!!!!!

It’s been handed to him on a silver platter and he shows no respect for his gifts and is completely ungrateful. Maybe he can change. If he can’t I sure hope the Bucs do not draft him. I’ve had a lifetime full of pampered athletes who think their physical skill set ENTITLES them to special privileges.

This is why it is so great to be a LIghtning fan right now. Great team with great humans representing our community. From Vinik to Yzerman to Cooper to the players the Lightning are first class.

Again I just wish it was legally possible for Vinik to buy the Bucs. That would change the franchise for the better…immediately!

  33. "that guy" Says:

i would rather see lovie continue to rebuild the O-line than waste another 1st rounder on a bust. bucs have lost 4 games or more this season by less then 7, and i feel like a punishing running game would change those to W’s. from what i have watched this year out of the bucs, o-line, CB, S, MLB, DE are much more of a problem than QB.

  34. Kingpin1 Says:

Glad your not a head coach joe! Off field issues are HUGE! Surprised you don’t consider that my God joe how many teams get screwed when they draft by talent alone???? Talent and character are how you draft a franchise player. I would bet the bank Lovie will not draft Winston!
