GMC: Much Respect For Josh McCown

After the loss to Cleveland two weeks ago, Gerald McCoy suggested that not enough of his teammates hate losing enough. That can’t be said about Josh McCown.

As has been well-chronicled, the Bucs quarterback was so overcome with rage, anger and disgust after Tampa Bay lost Sunday to the Dixie Chicks, he broke down crying and could barely keep himself together at the podium for his postgame press conference.

“This game is very hard to play,” GMC said today. “For him, personally, he did a whole lot to come back. The things people didn’t see about Josh McCown was what he did when he wasn’t playing: Pumping up the defense, telling us what affects quarterbacks, what we can do better. Staying on his guys [offense], staying on us [defense], in Mike Glennon’s ear constantly. And while doing all of that, he is still working to get back [healthy].

“He finally gets back and I believed he played well. There were things everybody could have done better. To put in all that work and to come up short, especially against a division opponent. It is how that whole game played out, it kind of sucked.

“But to see the passion that he had and has for the game it is good to see. You need that in your leader.”

This was the first Joe heard about how McCown was actually working with the Bucs defense to try to exploit tendencies of opposing quarterbacks.

That’s pretty cool and sort of underlines one reason Bucs overlord of football operations Lovie Smith wanted McCown’s intangibles on his roster.

Yes, Joe loves and respects the passion of players that loathe losing so much they lose all composure and control of themselves.

Guess what Joe likes even more? Wins.

Gerald’s quotes are far outnumbering his tackles and sacks. Getting bored hearing him.

I think the defense is lost and has no confidence in the offense so maybe they are just playing without passion and waiting for the season to end. perhaps a new QB and an actual OC will change that next year.

$100,000,000 sucking up to the company line !

Jeremy Shockey used to literally eat dirt after suffering a loss on the football field…

I wish this 53 man clown team would suck it up, quit crying, and eat dirt when they get their behinds handed to them each sunday.

Seriously, if these guys have any pride at all they will rise to the occasion and show some signs of life.

Why is taking so long to learn this D? Why can’t our O-Line block their way through a wet tissue?

Our linemen, GMC included, are the joke of the NFL.

We lost because our QB sucks. We lost because our Defense sucks. We lost because our team as a whole sucks. We lost because our Franchise from the owners down sucks.

I’ve said it (here) before, and I’ll say it again. I am NOT a big Josh McCown, the quarterback, fan. I AM a huge Josh McCown, the coach/mentor, fan. He has been around long enough that he’s seen it all. IMO, he just doesn’t have what it takes to consistently convert that knowledge into action. But you don’t have to be a great player in order to be a great coach. I would love to see him as the Buccaneer QB coach when he finally hangs up his cleats.

Jeremy Shockey was an idiot and a me-first player who only one a championship BECAUSE he got hurt and the offense finally jelled without him screaming for the ball. Your post is the joke.

Hope he doesn’t lose control of his bowels next time.

Need more than one sack… pressures are nice but I saw a few balls completed under duress that extended drives, where a sack would of ended them. Defense needs to be dominant for what they are getting paid. Stop with the team meshing crap, if the player is good he gets results that are positive…

Who the F$&k does McCown think he is? He was “anointed” the starting QB, and the local hacks made him into a “messiah”, like he was the savior, and the “chosen one” to come here and by take the franchise on some mystical run. McCown has NOT earned ANYTHING here. Yes..we’ve been told how great a leader he is, he cry’s, he passionate…so freakin what!!?!!! Win a GD game. He’s earned NOTHING here…NOTHING. This aint the Special Olympics!!
What he hell has this guy EVER done in his entire career that warrants this “attention”? Win a freakin game or two and quit crying, like you care more than everyone else. Would MUCH rather have had his brother Luke!

I find I don’t get much out of GMC interviews or McCown interviews. McCown especially is all jock-speak mixed with trailer trash delivery.
