Bowers Seems Bothered By GMC’s Words
November 2nd, 2014Now, the drama is beginning, something Joe prayed for almost as much as wins.
When a garbage team — and when you are 1-7, you are garbage — has no drama, there is apathy, which is the worst thing that can ever happen. Now there is drama.
Finally, players who are getting the job done are calling out other players. This was simmering last week after the loss to the Vikings, and now it is out in the open.
And players who are drags on the roster are snapping in response. They don’t like being called out.
That is what’s happening now between team leader and defensive stalwart Gerald McCoy and always-injured, and currently suspended for PEDs, defensive end Da’Quan Bowers.
GMC went off after the loss to the Browns, documented by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, claiming too many of his teammates don’t hate losing.
“I don’t think anybody is upset enough with losing,’ McCoy said after the game. “”Every time the game is over we sit here and say, “Oh, they made a play, we didn’t. When are we going to get tired of that?
“I’ve been dealing with this for five years, I’m tired of it…you’ve got to get tired of losing, man.”
Maybe because he has a guilty conscience, Bowers fired back on Twitter with a not-so veiled response.
No one is happy with losing, for people to insult players who are giving there all and risking themselves to be bashed weekly is insane
— Da’Quan Bowers (@DaQuanBowers91) November 2, 2014
No one is satisfied with losing !! I can promise you that — Da’Quan Bowers (@DaQuanBowers91) November 2, 2014
The only thing Joe will add to any of this is, Da’Quan, it is all about results. The NFL is a results business. This isn’t college or high school where a coach hugs you for effort. You are rewarded, handsomely in some circumstances, for results.
That means wins.
If any player is tired of the insults, then there is a very easy way to stop them. Results. Get results. And wins. Then you will be loved, not reviled. It’s really not that difficult to figure out.
You work hard? So do plumbers.
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:43 pm
Well when they keep blowing the team up every 2 years. It’s hard for the new additions to get used to losing. Especially if they weren’t on loser teams to before they got here.
Jameis will make the pain go away.
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:43 pm
Joe,
What’s the deal w/ the bogus ‘Flash out of date’ popup? I’ve seen people complain about it here before. Is this a paid advertisement? Sure looks like some kind of scam.
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:47 pm
ek: Its probably something Joe can’t control since it’s fed in by advertisers. Yeah, its malware… Just delete it 🙂
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:47 pm
So glad we had to “settle” for GMC. The guy makes it bearable to be a Bucs fan.
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:48 pm
Bowers is all mouth……here he sits….suspended….hurting his team and GMC gets $96mil contract…..DaQuan…you will be lucky to play anywhere next year.
Sounds like “bit dog barking” to me!!!
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:51 pm
The Buccaneers have never had a true franchise quarterback. Perhaps this awful , painful season provides the opportunity to procure one. Assuming the front office doesn’t screw it up.
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:53 pm
Daquan bowers,
Shut up and prove your words on the field. When you’re not healthy, that’s one thing, but to pack heat at an air port and take PEDs is careless.
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:53 pm
I dont htink yo can assume this is aimed at McCoy this could be aimed at the fans in general. Anyway I agree with Bowers even if it is against mccoy. Mccoy is not a leader hes just a talker . lol.
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:58 pm
We were a better team with Bowers and Barron out. We will be an even better one without MJ and Collins and Glennon.
I’m now ready to accept that it’s a QB driven league and we have the 4th best QB in the division. Maybe the 35th best active QB in the NFL
We need to draft a QB in 1st they go OL/DL for the rest
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:59 pm
@ Stevie Blart
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:59 pm
So much vitriol and hatred right now aimed at our team by the fans.
Call that one Famous name on draft day and it all goes away….
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:00 pm
How do we know is comments were directed at GMC? He said for “people” to be bashing “players”…last I checked McCoy was a player. And he said on a “weekly basis”. I Don’t recall McCoy saying this in the past. Just looks like more word-twisting to me.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:01 pm
When you’re on GMC’s level, and this gun-toting choir boy wants to call you out, you gotta laugh…
Salty ass Bowers, sittin on his couch back home, gospel music turned up, crushing up and snorting lines of PEDs, what a little bitch…
When Bowers gets on the field, he sees sky after gettin pancaked all the time… When GMC gets on the field, he sees the Matrix!
fucc outta here Bowers…
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:01 pm
@ Stevie Blart
EXACTLY!!! Leave it to Joe to play on the vagueness.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:02 pm
Except for the McCoy part that you said, I agree.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:03 pm
Andrew 1 …nope check the archives. GMC has been bashing his teammates quite a bit this season. Each week actually.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:04 pm
McCoy showed up today, he has every right to say what he did because it is the ****ing truth. Bowers must have a bit of a guilty conscience as he responded twice to something that did not mention him specifically. Be glad your not unemployed yet dude, to quote Judge Smails when he shot down Danny Newnan’s request to get the golf scholarship: “The world needs ditchdiggers too” and right now most of the Bucs roster looks more suited to that kind of work rather than playing in the NFL!
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:04 pm
100 million dollar ice cream man. He’s like where’s waldo on 3rd down but with all the triple teams he faced today (cough cough) how can you blame him. Oh wait he beat a backup for his first sack and got his second thanks to Ja. Smith.
Mr mc ice cream, the game is won in the fourth. Can you make a play when it counts? I Keep hearing McDonald and gholstons name in all four quarters. Mccoy disappears after the first qrt and then finds the energy to run his mouth in the locker room. So pick up the opponents but call out your teammates. Check! #maninthemirror #captaincialis
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:05 pm
He never singles out players, but he has been saying that guys are not doing their jobs, and that they are not in the right place when a QB gets flushed out the pocket. He’s been calling them out. It has been happening.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:05 pm
How bout shut up and play Bowers. I pay damn good money year after year as a season ticket holder, and I can tell you I hate the damn losing!! We all should be angry with this crap!
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:07 pm
I think this team is very close to giving up. Which makes us closer to that #1 pick that I covet. Go Jets!
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:07 pm
Quarterback problem ? Solved…. Give our 2nd round pick and a 6th next year to Cleveland for Johnny (Football) Manziel and partner him up with his former wide receiver. Do it now, while Manziel is riding the bench ! How exciting would that be !
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:07 pm
@ 87
There’s a difference between what he’s been saying, and this latest comment. At least there is to me. Sounds more like Bowers was getting defensive from what people in the media and bucs fans having been saying about him and his fellow teammates.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:09 pm
I don’t blame GMC for being frustrated with the losses…..he’s a great player and will be here for a long time. I believe he is doing his part….
He attracts double & triple teams and Bowers takes the (fat bot) waterpill and hurts his team….
We need to dump him or dump on him!!!
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:11 pm
Andrew I guess it depends on the time McCoy said it and when the tweet went out. Bowers isn’t going to come out and exactly say McCoy is pissing me off.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:17 pm
Andrew 1…so what you are trying to say is that Bowers reads blogs and listens to the radio shows? So that’s where he’s coming from. I don’t know man. I don’t know. One could take it either way. We all know how Joe took it already.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:21 pm
@ 87
Well the time frame does line up. If McCoy said this after the game during an interview, it would have happened around 4 o’clock. Bower’s tweet was sent out at 6:50, so it could be looked at as a response from Bowers to McCoy by a clever enough media member who is trying and convey drama. But there’s still no way of knowing for sure if Bowers was talking to McCoy, or just responding to all the player bashing in general.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:22 pm
@ 87
He is suspend, so what else does he got to do! lol.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:25 pm
Joe’s saying that a 1-7 team SHOULD have drama or there’s a problem. Atleast that’s how I took it. I think he’s right too. There better be some drama going on, too much calmness and there’s a problem in my book. I WANT the players to get mad at each other. I actually think it might help the damn team win. Show some fight. Argue, bicker, and get pissed at each other, then vow to make it right on the field to bury the drama once and for all.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:26 pm
mr bowers, you are not on the field for doing something against nfl rules… you profess religion, live up to it .. your teammate, Gerald, also professes religion, he seems to live up to it… now, you decide what kind of person you are going to be and when you decide that your career is football with the bucs, please follow the rules and do your job… your teammate, Gerald, could use some help… but, you have ALOT of proving to do with us fans… we don’t see passion, interest, excellence, violence, or talent on the field from you … it’s not for sure you’ll be on the team after you suspension, but if you do, we demand 150% from you … if you can’t deliver, please don’t even try … just go away
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:26 pm
@ 87
And he didnt have to name McCoy specifically for us to understand who he was talking about. Instead of saying “for people to insult players” he could have said “for some players to insult other players” and we all would have knowm who he was talking about.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:30 pm
I didn’t even know Bowers was suspended, that’s how insignificant those type of players are when u watch the game.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:31 pm
There is absolutely no way Bowers is directing this tweet at McCoy. First of all, he’s saying “for people to insult players”. That would mean people that are not football players insulting football players. I don’t even see how you could read that quote and interpret it any differently. Second, even Bowers isn’t that stupid. No way he would criticize the franchise player while being suspended. That’s Eric Wright stupid, and I don’t think Bowers is that dumb.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:32 pm
Bowers doesnt Hate losing …he hates Dieting ,staying in shape and making plays .
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:33 pm
@ 87
imo players dont need to be dramatic in order for them to show that they care. Put in the work, and we’ll know that you care. However, you do need drama to sell… hint hint.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:35 pm
Bowers is a huge chump. Just an enormous one. Why the hell is he saying anything? Yo Daquan, did you play? No, you were suspended. Shut up.
Bowers is fine with losing. Just look at his Twitter picture. It’s a cool shot of him recovering a fumble at the end of the Ravens game. Score was 48-17 at the time.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:39 pm
[Nah, man. That’s over the line. Understand your frustration with losing but that’s a bit much, don’t you think? — Joe]

That’s could be EXACTLY why he chose the word “people” and not “players”.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:44 pm
I wasn’t encouraged by what I saw today but I wasn’t discouraged either. The Bucs are who we thought they were, a bad football team. But, at least they looked like a bad nfl football team. In some games this year, it was really debatable whether we had nfl level talent on the field. This week we at least came to play, we just played badly, which is what bad teams do. Another week in the books. It was tough at times but I enjoyed parts of the game. Think I’ll snag up a #13 for the kids
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:46 pm
Regardless of who he was talking about Bowers is done in Tampa. Even as a mid-late second round pick he’s still a bust.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:47 pm
daquan…where you at?
…the jemarcus russell school of foot”baller” thats where…
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:47 pm
I keep telling all the dolts on here. No one is going to re-new their tickets next season after they go 2-14 nor will they buy any ugly jerseys.
The answer to selling tickets next season is Famous.
30,000 plus FSU fans will be on the phone calling One Buc a few days after the draft if they hear that name called off.
Draft an O-lineman or a DE and you’ll hear crickets at the ticket office. That might even include Mariota, Hundley, or Prescott as well.
How many of you are going to call One Buc after this possible 2-14 season we are headed for and say sign me up for tickets?
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:57 pm
@ Buc1987
But if he really did mean “people as people” and not “players as people”? lmao idk man. He’s not going to be here next year to be running his mouth anyway…
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:59 pm
Yup true he won’t be here anyways…
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:18 pm
@Joe or anyone with knowledge of the cap situation: I’m not sure of the contract ramifications, but if we waive him now will we take a cap hit?
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:20 pm
Joe’s not a cap guy, sorry. Pays no attention to it.
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:21 pm
What in the world did I say that was out of line, you’ve got to be kidding.
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:22 pm
Notice today we didn’t miss our recently traded players in the least. We sure aren’t missing Bowers either. Cut him.
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:25 pm
With the defensive roster, they can get as mad as humanly possible, I don’t think it makes a difference in the win column. We have no difference maker’s on the d-line.
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:28 pm
Really? You don’t know? C’mon.
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:35 pm
No, I don’t know. Of all the comments, you get offended by mine? That’s really weird. I’ll rephrase to see if I can meet the rules.
Bowers has made millions contributing nothing to this team. Players that are busts that spout off on twitter after a loss show a general lack of intelligence. I think Bowers is both unintelligent and untalented.
Good?
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:42 pm
Reality:
You referred to players with a word you wouldn’t use in polite company. At the end of the day, Joe is responsible for what is on this site including comments.
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:45 pm
Shut your F**KING pie hole Bowers, you freaking bum!
This future, grease-ball televangelist doesn’t deserve to say a damn thing; suspended ass sitting on the couch.
Shame!
Go Sucs!
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:50 pm
Build a team around McCoy, David, Evans, Rainey, Banks and Sims.
I still believe the defense will get better even with the starters
we have this year. The offense is another matter:
Fill the OC vacuum. Build a line. Get a QB. Get some other receivers
that don’t drop the ball.
Lots and lots of work to do.
Foster, Spence, Verner, Wright, McDonald are serviceable players.
PAY THEM TO KEEP THEM HERE AND MAINTAIN CONTINUITY.
The jury is still out on ASJ. He’s worth keeping. Keeping V-jax
would be a good idea too. Just pay these guys to keep SOME
sort of continuity from year to year.
It might even pay off to keep the o-line as is and give them an off-season
to work together.
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:51 pm
I would agree that smartest ones are quietest ones. They stand a better chance of avoiding the chopping block the more they go unnoticed. Still might not save them, but worth a shot.
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:52 pm
Ok Joes, had no idea anyone would be offended by that (honestly). The word literally means, “a person who is notably stupid or lacking in good judgment”, which is what I was trying to say about Bowers, the guy that got arrested at an airport with a gun and is currently suspended for PEDs. I’ll add it to the list bad words.
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:52 pm
This is the first thing in a while that has made me consider GMC being worth the money we paid him
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:53 pm
Bowers has done nothing for the Bucs. In fact, he has provided poor play, cost them a 2nd rounder, and has even gotten himself suspended. He has every right to be frustrated, just like the fans. But he should only be mad at himself for contributing to this poor team’s poor performances.
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:55 pm
Yawn….much ado about nothing from a horrible team. They started talking last week and all that got them was another L. Why don’t the players and coaches shut the hell up and take ownership of their actions. Only one I want hear from is the Glazers
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:58 pm
Hey bowers, their*
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:07 pm
I find it very interesting that he has no problem saying this now that G Mac’s twitter account is deactivated…
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:08 pm
Understand your frustration. Joe gets it too. However, there are certain words that are, well, flammable. Joe can’t let those go by when directed at the players. Trust Joe, he TOTALLY understands your anger. The outrage wasn’t the issue.
Trust Joe, that word is pretty much banned in so many places.
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:10 pm
only gmc, gholston, mcdanials, and the new 56 pass rusher need to be on the team next year
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:43 pm
The losing culture has to change and McCoy knows it. Bowers has done absolutely nothing since being drafted. He has no room to talk.
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:47 pm
I’m Tired of this. Let GMC be the Peyton Manning of this Defense. Let him whip these boys into shape it’s obvious Frasier nor Lovie can get it done!
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:52 pm
This coming from a player who has less than what 7…6 CAREER sacks..AND who is most liekly to be cut after he’s reinstated…AND who wasn’t even on the field…you call THIS DRAMA…oh how far my Bucs have fallen…I hope you find a nice back woods church choir to play guitar for Bowers because YOU DON’T HAVE HEART FOR ANYTHING ELSE!!
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:58 pm
“Trust Joe, that word is pretty much banned in so many places.”
Dang Joe you got me wondering what the word was….
November 3rd, 2014 at 12:10 am
What some people call ‘bashing teammates’, I call ‘holding them accountable, publicly’. McCoy is obviously frustrated and he is calling it like he sees it. If everyone worked as hard as McCoy, I’m sure we wouldn’t have the worst defense in the league. (or maybe it’s actually the worst scheme in the league, Idk) Please don’t give me this Dallas runs the same scheme crap. Rod Marinelli is obviously coaching it and calling plays wayyy better than our crappy coaches.
November 3rd, 2014 at 12:16 am
@Miss Schiano…I don’t have problem with it all. I’m the one saying that he’s been doing it for most of the season. I’m actually glad he said what he said. Perhaps he might be wrong though. Perhaps they just don’t have the talent that GMC has. All the talking and complaining won’t fix a damn thing if the players are no good to begin with.
November 3rd, 2014 at 12:20 am
Joe prays for Drama which equals more hits on joebucsfan.com. Excuse the crassness, it’s been a long frusterating season. I could go with 1-15 as long at the 1 was a win against the Browns. Really? We got beat by the Browns?
November 3rd, 2014 at 12:22 am
Prediction: Bowers is cut by the Bucs, gets a shot on another team, but is out of the NFL and back to his gospel music and learning to tune his dad’s guitar by the end of August.
November 3rd, 2014 at 12:41 am
Talk to any suit at One Buc Palace and ask them what the worst thing there is for a team. Answer: apathy. When fans check out, they sometimes don’t come back.
When you don’t have wins and don’t have drama, you get apathy. There is a reason the NFL is the 800-pound gorilla. Drama. The NFL knows it means $$$. Keeps fans engaged.
Why do you think the draft and free agent season and Super Bowl media day is so popular? Drama.
November 3rd, 2014 at 1:06 am
Like I said I WANT the drama. There should be more than a few pissed off players at each other right now. My belief is that sometimes drama is needed to bring the team together. Too much of it though, like last season can rip the team apart and make players choose sides, ala Freeman had a lot of friends. Which is what I believe went wrong with last season and the soap opera. Last season was doomed from the start with the captain vote supposedly being tainted by Schiano. If it truly was tainted by him and he had many buddies on the team, that probably led to the lack of effort by many players for the rest of the season. We’ll never know.
November 3rd, 2014 at 2:13 am
I know, how about a spelling bee?
November 3rd, 2014 at 9:14 am
yup number1 pick plus this lovie idiot! and who! OC means no winning for another 4 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!
November 3rd, 2014 at 11:52 am
@ Joe,
I am very disappointed you will throw this out there about Bowers without any proof he was aiming those comments at McCoy. That is very irresponsible from someone who wants to be taken seriously as a bucs insider or a journalist in general. You are better than this Joe. Live up to that standard please and stop trying to create the news. That is not a good look.
November 3rd, 2014 at 12:53 pm
Bowers will be more bothered next year when he is a free agent sitting on his couch on Sundays.
November 3rd, 2014 at 2:36 pm
fake….
November 3rd, 2014 at 6:00 pm
I’m all for the Bucs improving, but just DON’T mess up our draft slot! We NEED a franchise QB.
