“Somebody Has To Look Good, Right?”
October 24th, 2014Many Bucs fans are expecting a win Sunday, but few are expecting a great football game against the struggling Vikings.
Yes, both teams have issues. But what do the Bucs need to look good?
The dean of Tampa Bay television sportscasters, Dave Wirth of WTVT-TV, Ch. 10, believes he has answers in this exclusive video for JoeBucsFan.com readers.
Wirth hits on an oft-forgotten point as it relates to the Bucs and Mike Glennon’s success in the offense.
Enjoy the video.

What do the bucs need to look good in order to get a win? It’s the same things as always- D line need to get pressure, O line needs to block (run and pass), and Glennon just needs to keep doing what he is doing and maybe be a little more aggressive. But again he can only be as aggressive as the play calling dictates. And that’s it really, we do those things we will not only win this game, but a lot of others.

Oh and come to play like we’re ready to hit someone in the mouth.

We need to quit trying to “establish” the run……start gunning right from the get-go…..pass more on first down……pass on 2nd and short. Take more chances…..back to last years “dink & dunk” with Glennon.
As far as defense…..we need to jam their recievers on the line and blitz more to make up for our awful pass rush……our linebackers are biting too much on play action….leave the run stopping to our D-line more.

It’s been like 4 years since I have seen a well executed slant route from the Bucs. Why don’t the Bucs run slants, ever?

@ TBBF
I also would like them to air it out early and often, but thats going to make a lot of pressure on Glennon. Can he handle it, or will he choke the game away? idk, but I’m with you, I would like to see what happens. Teams already know we’re one dimensional anyway because we can’t run. Doubt they’ll do it though.
As for the defense, got to be careful playing tight. With our lack of pass rush some of these 5-10 yards gains will turn to 15-20 yard gains if we play press. I think Lovie has anticipated this and is backing off a little bit in the secondary to limit the damage. Not the ideal spot to be in, but we’re in it.

@ Andrew
Even today Lovie said…”We are a running team”…….No we aren’t….we are a team that wishes we could run….
As for jamming……I agree with you it is a gamble but opposing recievers are getting open early and often against us even when we back off the line…..we need to disrupt their routes and with the new emphasis on illegal contact after 5 yards….we are at a disadvantage…..IMO…

Hey I’m with you, there’s nothing better than when a defense brings the heat and plays press man across the board. I love that Rex Ryan style of defense. Unfortunately, Lovie’s defense is a bend but don’t break style of defense, but when it works right, you don’t get beat deep like we have been AND it’s a turnover machine like we haven’t been. Up to this point, his defense hasn’t been implemented correctly.

I agree that the offense needs to pass the ball more early on in the game which means more pressure on Glennon. I’m not personally a Glennon fan but the team has to find out if he is going to be the man or not. If Glennon can’t handle the pressure of having to carry more of the offensive workload then he is not the “quarterback of the future” and the Bucs need to decide which of the young quarterbacks in the draft they’re going to target in the draft.

There are only two teams worse than the Bucs/Vikings (tied) for scoring points. Yep, the Jaguars and Raiders. That means the Bucs shouldn’t have to worry about the Vikings jumping to a big first quarter lead. That should be an invitation to ‘air it out’ early and often. If nothing else, it would disrupt the defensive scheme that the Vikings have implemented for this game.
I believe the Bucs will win and it won’t have to be a late score or defensive save. Not a big win, but not a nail-biter at the end.

I agree that the play calling needs to improve. But going back to last years last place offense with the dink and dunk is beyond stupid.Glennon’s greatest asset is his strong arm. Let him air it out as many times as possible. Screen passes never work for this team and our yards after catch as a team is horrible. We need to press down field and throw deep. Having the defense playing back will help open the run game because safeties won’t be in the box and linebackers will have to play coverage deeper. Last weeks game was a fluke as for pass protection. The entire season we have had good good protection. Heck it’s been a highlight most of the year. The Ravens defense came to play and our offense as a whole did not. I don’t expect to see that type of play again. If glennon has the time let him air it out. Obviously if he is getting early pressure he needs to recognize and audible to shorter routes or hit his Check down. Or God forbid he escape the pocket and make a play outside the pocket.
Ok I’m done. Lol
