Rising Stocker

October 29th, 2014

Luke Stocker is a survivor. The Bucs’ 2011 fourth-round pick has battled through loads of injuries and three head coaches to emerge looking like a versatile NFL tight end.

At One Buc Palace, he was lauded today for his newest role.

Stocker lined up a for a share of downs at fullback against the Vikings. Starting FB Jorvorskie Lane was serving an NFL suspension for using a banned substance.

The stat nerds at ProFootballFocus.com gave Stocker their coveted green grade for his blocking. But the legitimate love came from de facto offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo today.

“Luke did great. Luke did really well. Really happy with his performance,” Arroyo said. “Just the first time to have him step into that role. If, without getting into gameplans for this week, if his role was asked to do that again, he’d be the guy to do it again based on what he did. We’re excited by what he did.”

So what’s different about Stocker this season? He’s healthy, and has been all year. That’s a rock-solid, 265-pound load blocking out of the backfield.

As crazy as it sounds, Stocker could be only guy from the Bucs’ 2011 draft class returning next season.

Headline sounds like a bad porn title

  2. bucrightoff Says:

A TE who can’t catch passes in today’s NFL is an utter waste. So congrats to Stocker on being a good blocker and as such, let’s pump him up to 330 and put him on the OLine. If all he can do is block, let him become a lineman.

  3. DallasBuc Says:

Well that just figures with the stellar talent evaluation being conducted by the leadership on this team. Keep it up boys!

  4. Buc1987 Says:

“Luke did great. Luke did really well. Really happy with his performance,” the soon to be fired Arroyo said.

  5. BucIt941 Says:

Well he can’t catch to save his life, but the man has always beena strong blocker. Maybe a move to FB wouldn’t be a bad idea

  6. mac Says:

Are we really going to allow this guy to waste another roster spot next year?

Let’s hope not… He can’t catch a cold, is slow as molasses and is too injury prone to be a consistent blocker…

    Another Dominik flop IMO…

  7. Buctebow Says:

That’s one position filled, how about the other 21?

  8. Jon Says:

Wait. I just realized the Bucs traded Barron for Mankins and a 6th. Mankins won’t be here next year either!!!!

  9. Robert 9 Says:

does he have 3 TD’s in the last 4 games?

can any of our players say that?

This guy should not even be on the practice squad, yet they are praising him. This just makes me want to friggin puke knowing Tim Wright is money for the pats and was for us last year, meanwhile ASJ is losing games and they are praising some scmucks blocking……F$%KING BLOCKING??????

FML. just sell the friggin team

  10. OneLove Says:

    @Robert 9

The Patriots have Tom Brady! We have Mike Glennon….

  11. Yungry Says:

    These experiments never work…

  12. Fuzzy Red Coin Purse Says:

Well at last we final found a fullback, although he can’t catch coming out of the backfield. Great, now how about we pound the rock down the thought of the Browns and open up some downfield passing attempts. Lets unleash Glennon and his cannon to V-Jax, Evans, and ASJ since they are all over 6-5 like we were supposed to from the start. Just come out blazin’ and run the no huddle along with it. Come on guys!

  13. bucrightoff Says:

Mike Glennon had Wright put up 550yards and 4 TDs last year. So if you think Glennon sucks, and Wright puts up those numbers, what does that say about Wright?

  14. PELBUC Says:

He’s such a good blocker that he whiffed on the special teams FG unit that caused the blocked FG against the Rams. Remember, the game Bucs lost by 2 points. SMH!

  15. OneLove Says:

    @bucrightoff
I don’t think Glennon sucks…. I know Glennon sucks! You think ASJ wouldn’t be putting up numbers with Brady throwing him the ball?? Hell, even LaFell is starting to break out!

  16. DooshLaRue Says:

“Without getting into gameplans for this week”………says Arroyo.

Yeah Marcus it’s a real big secret isn’t, wouldn’t want to tip your hand for those 1st and second down runs would ya?

  17. bucrightoff Says:

Uhhhh One Love can you read at all? Wright put up those numbers when Glennon threw it to him, you know, last year? Nothing to do with Tom Brady yo, so not sure where that came from other than you just wanted to bash Glennon.

The Glennon haters are without question the most insane, delusional group on this site. Mostly former Freemanites who still think Schiano ruined him (which if that were the case, why is he out of this league and every other league?)

  18. DB55 Says:

So this is what it has come to? Praising Luke stocker for blocking?

Our father who farts in heaven forgive us for our passes as we forgive those who pass against us and beat us by 56 points. Lead us not into victory but into some sort of competence. C’on man!!

  19. Another J Says:

Luke Stocker wouldn’t even make another teams practice squad…
He only looks like a good Fullback in practice, Because there wasn’t another Fullback on the practice squad!

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Luke….can block?……Isn’t he a part of our awful Oline when he’s in?

Seriously……I think most every team has a blocking TE on their roster…..

Luke Stocker…..Mark Dominick’s claim to fame!!!

    mac Says
“Are we really going to allow this guy to waste another roster spot next year?”

Thankfully, fans and media do not make that call. What was Alstott? 250? Maybe Stocker would have been a better fullback.

Now though, I don’t think he has the durability to do it full time.

Honestly, even though I like him as a team member, I did not think he would make the final roster until Wright was traded.

  22. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I wish we could get a fullback like Lorenzo Neal. That guy was perfect to create open lanes.

  23. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Seriously…on Mike Glennon. He does suck right now. But that doesn’t mean he cannot get better.

Either way, he’s not earning the franchise label so many of you gave him without him so much as earning it.

  24. RCH Says:

“As crazy as it sounds, Stocker could be only guy from the Bucs’ 2011 draft class returning next season.”

But yet for whatever reason some people hope we tank the rest of the season for a high draft pick like the Bucs will nail it out of the park for someone with franchise “potential”.

  25. Buccfan37 Says:

Time to jump in to defend MG’s greatness. Give this guy just an average supporting cast and we would be leading the division, no doubt in my mind. He is one of the only bright spots on this roster, which includes LVD, GMC and the rookie receivers who get a pass for mistakes, yet are raw undeveloped talent. I know it is getting old and repeated by many that Glennon has next to nonexistant protection when dropping back to pass, but that is the actual reality and number one problem for our offense. MG is not tinkerbell back there and fleet of foot. He is as good as any QB in throwing ability and I’m not backing off that assertion. The Bucs don’t need another QB, they have a good one. Now fix the other pretenders and the wins will come.

  26. Jon Says:

Stocker is a free agent, like Casillas or Meredith both we resigned and now say we don’t have the talent on the team. I worry for another offseason of missed free agents and late round busts already in the first year. Seriously, how can neither OLineman we drafted not be good enough to play over ohmamah?

  27. BoJim Says:

    I like Stocker. I’m glad to see him hanging in there. Also;

ASJ is a rookie as is Evans.
    The oline sucks azz.
Glennon needs more than 1.5 seconds to throw the ball.

As long as I can remember, I always wanted to see us draft impact players. Thanks to this site, I want to draft oline.

  28. sho nuff Says:

Luke who? oh thatguy that obviously had the goods on dom to get paid for doing absolutly nothing for 3 years….*yawn

  29. sho nuff Says:

sign him and watch him brake within minutes….this team is easily ripped off

  30. RP Says:

Get ready for another injury to a tight end turned fullback who’s not used to playing the position, a la Tom Crabtree.
