Donald Penn Slights Glennon’s “Personality And Demeanor”
October 30th, 2014The man some Bucs fans are missing these days, left tackle Donald Penn, weighed in with a take on leaky, sleepy Josh Freeman and Mike Glennon recently.
Of course, Joe has to share.
The former Bucs ironman left tackle is having a strong season for winless Oakland, and he was asked to sit down for an official team video show.
Penn obliged (watch it here) and was asked about emerging Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr, who has opened a lot of eyes with his stats and heart on a lousy football team. For some reason, Penn felt compelled to compare Carr to his old Tampa Bay mates.
“I’m very impressed with him. You know I played with two other rookie quarterbacks in Josh Freeman and Mike Glennon and, you know, Carr’s personality and demeanor, it’s a very big difference than the other guys,” Penn said.
Penn went on to say Freeman and Glennon are great quarterbacks, but they’re no Derek Carr.
“Carr has a different mentality about him. And I think it’s helping him go out there and be successful. The want that he has to win, you can’t teach that. You gotta be born with that.”
Joe’s not sure what to make of Penn’s take as it relates to Glennon. But the big fella is a straight shooter and Joe has no doubt Penn is seeing more of a natural leader type in Carr than he saw from No. 5 and No. 8 in Tampa.
Penn also played with Jeff Garcia and with Brad Johnson in Minnesota, so he’s been around A-list leaders.
Joe sure hopes Glennon can seize his opportunity on Sunday and turn around this Bucs offense. If not, the Bucs will be looking for they’re own Derek Carr — or better — in the draft.

Potbelly calling the kettle’s black.

Ok Donald, you 0-7 team is worse than our 1-6 team.
Worse team= worse QB
Last time I checked, this league is about wins and losses, not personality.

The scramble by Glennon, and the missed first down was likely the type of attitude for winning that Penn was talking about.
I wonder if Carr would have made sure he got the first, probably so.
Same type of attitude is on display with Glennon constantly taking sacks with his beeline out of bounds plays.
He is not improving, could be his low rent coaching, but still, the same mistakes.

Carr might be good but at this point he rates out statistically worse than Glennon. His leadership has led them to 0 wins, he has 3 games with almost 30 pass attempts and fewer than 175 yards, and his YPA is the second worst in the league, only ahead of the glorious Geno Smith. At this point, with the Raiders likely to be going through another regime change, Carr hasn’t done enough to prevent the new regime from taking a QB. So people who think the Raiders definitely aren’t taking one might want to rethink that one. They absolutely could take a QB if the new regime likes one of the guys in the draft more.

everyone of you would take donald penn back at LT regardless of what he thinks of the backup glennon. 32nd offense last year, 32 offense this year yet it’s always someone else to blame. just watching his weak Arse run out of bounds without trying to get the first down last game says all you need to know about 8. no heart. below average skills.
draft winston and sign saint ritchie

Rastamon
Heard it and it think booger almost sh*t himself. Seemed like he was certain lynch would say Barron sucks yet he said the exact opposite.

swapping Penn for Collins? Big mistake.

The big differnce must be the great leadership from Greg Olson……compared to Marcus….our OJT OC….

I guess your assuming that Glennon is starting Sunday Joe? Or do you know he’s starting for sure?
October 30th, 2014 at 4:21 pm
Put Derrick Carr behind our offensive line for a while and we’ll see how his demeanor is then!
October 30th, 2014 at 4:22 pm
I thought according to you, wins and losses defined a player? How is Penn having a good year? The Raiders are as bad as we are. If there is one common denominator, it’s Donald Penn. And raving about Carr? ..isn’t he also winless?
October 30th, 2014 at 4:32 pm
My favorite Donald Penn moment as a Buc was when the “rock star” basically told a bunch of season ticket holders that Penn was a fat ass who needed to cut down on the Twinkies.
October 30th, 2014 at 4:38 pm
Penn is a heck of a teammate. What do you expect him to say?
October 30th, 2014 at 4:39 pm
So this is the story that would get Glennon “fans” up in arms? Not much to it. I just know that compared to McCown, Glennon is a Hall of Famer. I don’t necessarily think that Glennon is the long-term answer. But having a decent OL would make evaluating Glennon easier. This whole season has just not gone well. Still wondering what the hell happened to Doug Martin?!
October 30th, 2014 at 4:45 pm
Joe, you have to be trolling by calling Garcia and Johnson A-listers.
October 30th, 2014 at 4:59 pm
So Steve k is saying that glennon is no better than the 30th or so qb in the league. Since the Bucs are only the second worst team in the league. I agree with what you’re saying. Glennon is a bottom feeder in this league. New qb is on the way. No way glennon goes into next season as he starter.
October 30th, 2014 at 5:06 pm
I must be missing something. Penn thinks Carr is successful yet the Raiders are 0-6. Your only judged if your successful in this league by how man W’s you put on the board. Go ask Archie Manning if you don’t believe me.
As for Penn, he are himself out of a job here. I believe he was responsible for 14 sacks last year. He got pushed around so much last year the team should have nicknamed him “shopping cart.”
October 30th, 2014 at 5:16 pm
Glennon’s demeanor may have been better if Penn could have done some blocking for him last year.
October 30th, 2014 at 5:58 pm
Looks like Penn should be doing some blocking for the winless Raiders too.
October 30th, 2014 at 6:03 pm
It’s funny watching the MGM try to defend their prized giraffe. Will they ever run out of excuses? It’s everybody’s fault but Melman’s.
October 30th, 2014 at 6:19 pm
I always liked Penn, but he played like a hippo on roller skates last year. it was time for him to go. Happens to them all sooner or later.
October 30th, 2014 at 7:53 pm
Who asked Donald to sit down for an official team video show? Was it the Penn and Mic Club?
October 30th, 2014 at 11:22 pm
Awwww Penn hurt mgm feelings. I’m sure Derek carr does have a different demeanor, he’s not as think as a dorito. Glennon is garbage and a backup which is why what he’s learning from mccown is so valuable. He’s at his ceiling already let him go be average for some other bad team. He’s Ryan Mallet, josh mccown backup, no one who wants to start on the nfl runs out of bounce before getting for the first on a third down play. If it had been mccown he wouldn’t have been able to live it down, it’s Glennon so the delusional masses want to try to pretend it didn’t happen
October 31st, 2014 at 1:41 am
Carr wants to win but he’s WINLESS LOL!
October 31st, 2014 at 7:06 am
Here’s hoping Carr & Penn can win a game soon so the Bucs can have a shot at the number one pick so we can get Jameis Winston. This should be out singular focus.
October 31st, 2014 at 9:02 am
So if Peyton Manning or heck I’ll go way lower and say Andy Dalton, Cam Newton, Carson Palmer, or Joe Flacco had a worse record than us that Mike Freaking Glennon is better than them MGM?
LMAO you delusional B@stards
October 31st, 2014 at 10:21 am
Hey buc fans as it sits, if the draft were 2day we would take the 1st Qb on the board. To be honest Tampa & St Louis are the only bottom feeders who need a Qb 1st pick. Jameis winston or M Mariotta . I think either way there good 1st rounder potential. But either way ,we still have to address our OL situation. any Qb we stick back there will catch hell if we cant block for the guy. By the way, MG is better than DC . MG is much more mature but Penn is right, Carr does have the killer instinct & that is something u can’t teach.
