“He’s One Of The Kings At That”

“Did you hear the one about the Bucs locking down a tight end?”

Lavonte David has yet to savor the sweetness of victory against the New Orleans Saints.

And a big reason for that is the deceptive eyes of Drew Brees, in addition to the stupid three-man rushes against Brees that Greg Schiano employed too often.David gets another crack at Brees on Sunday in the SuperDome.

The Bucs’ stud linebacker joined SiriusXM NFL Radio yesterday to chat about the matchup. David, as usual, said all the right things and talked in generalities, but he did get hyped up a bit when the discussion turned to how Brees looks off defenders and can manipulate a defense with his eyeballs.

“Oh, man. He’s one of the kings at that, you know,” David said. “So everybody got to be disciplined in their techniques and their coverage also. So we can kind of mess with him a little bit.”

Yes, Lavonte, Joe hopes you “can mess with” Brees, too.

At home in the dome, where New Orleans hasn’t lost once under Sean Payton since Josh Freeman beat them there in 2010, Brees will get his yards. The key Sunday is going to be how much the Bucs can carve up a suffering Saints defense. The first interception of the season by the Bucs’ secondary would be nice, too.

Maybe Glennon will be epic in this game?

MG8’s helmet was stifling; it narrowed his vision, and he must see far. His pads were heavy; they threw him off balance, and his target was far away.

    An MGM’er can only hope.

Who was the last Bucs QB to beat the Saints at home? After Sunday the answer will be the same.

    Joe

This has to be asked, are Drew Brees and Tom Brady beginning to slip due to age and accumulated injuries or are their teams 1-3 like us for some other reasons?

  6. Buc1987 Says:

OB…who do you want Joe to ask that question to? Who has that answer for you?

  7. Louis Friend Says:

    @OB

I doubt Joe’s going to answer, so in case he doesn’t:

You saw the defense of the Saints? They’re back to being awful so far. Brees has never been perfect and will throw ducks during a game even in his best years, but he’s having a good season by most standards.

As for Brady, I think a lot of people are trying to write him off. He’s being forced to look at the rush more as his O-line is getting beat a lot. They miss Mankins, and the rest of their line is underperforming badly. His receivers aren’t scaring anyone – when David Lafell and Julian Edelman are your top WR targets that’s going to be a problem waiting for them to get open sometimes. I don’t think Brady has the talent around him that Manning or Brees do, and it shows. Brady may be slowing down as well, but it’s hard to tell when a guy is dealing with the mess he’s got.

Glennon should look good against that terrible saints d

  9. Buc1987 Says:

God that’s it. God has the answer as to weather Brady or Brees are too old play football.

Joe that question has to be asked. Joe can you ask God if Brees or Brady are too old to play football?

I would compare Glennon more to Darius and his freakish height than Leonidas and his 6 pack abs.

Bucs have to get after Brees something fierce. For every sack of Brees, I will let out a yell to shake and rattle the neighbors. I want to be hoarse after this game Bucs.

Won’t pretend to know too much about nfl defenses but not sure why David can’t guard jimmy Graham when he’s in the slot, I’ve never seen him matched up on a tight end and he’s our fastest linebacker
