For months, Joe has been working to get the word out: Austin Seferian-Jenkins is an absolute manbeast of a rookie tight end.
Here’s the scouting report for NFL defenses: Too wide, too tall, too strong, too intense, too determined, too quick, too angry after the catch.
It was clear early in Bucs spring practices that Seferian-Jenkins was no mirage. The talent is oozing out of him. If you’re choosing sides for a schoolyard game of football, he’s the first or second Buccaneer taken.
Those watching closely have seen Seferian-Jenkins make a significant impact in the little action he’s had. An injury early in the season opener, after catching a 26-yard ball from Josh McCown, kept him sidelined until last Sunday in Pittsburgh. Against the Steelers, he had three catches for 44 yards, and would have had a touchdown if Mike Glennon threw the ball high to him in the end zone.
Speaking on WDAE-AM 620 yesterday, former Bucs tight end Anthony Becht raved about the rookie and said the Bucs should be targeting him often to open up the offense successfully.
“Five, six, seven times is a must,” Becht said.
Joe agrees. Feed the beast!!
With Mike Evans out this weekend, Vincent Jackson is going to draw double teams, and the Bucs’ primary hope for a passing attack lies with Seferian-Jenkins. No, Joe’s not on the Louis Murphy bandwagon.
Joe suspects the Bucs haven’t even figured out all the ways they can use Seferian-Jenkins effectively.
De facto offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo admitted yesterday that Tampa Bay has to do more to get their big talented tight end involved.

He is just waiting to bust out. Need him at 100%. Glendon loves his right ends so hopefully they are putting in extra time this week with mike Evans out

I keep begging for us to throw the ball to this guy. Admittedly, I haven’t seen much of him (because we rarely target him and he’s been hurt), but the little I have shows an extraordinary amount of talent. It really appears as Arroyo and/or the QB have struggled getting the ball to the playmakers on this team. That’s got to get fixed, like this week.

He has been banged up here and there since even before the Bucs drafted him. If he gets a streak going of being healthy, look out. Still standing by my projection he will be offensive took of the year. IF he can stay on the field.

I hope Arroyo and ASJ are watching lots of Jimmy Graham tape. That’s exactly how he needs to be used and become.

“No Joe’s not on the Murphy Bandwagon” I seem to remember Joe not on the Glennon Bandwagon either and now he has the reigns in his hand.
Im on the Murphy bandwagon because it is obvious that he and Glennon have better chemistry right now.

What was ASJ’s forty time? He doesn’t look like he has really good speed. Not that he needs it, but just interested if he is faster than he looks. Also I haven’t seen him do anything but fall over after the catch. I’m hoping he gets some opportunities this Sunday. I’d love to see him truck Jarius Byrd.

Those saying he should watch Graham film picked the wrong TE to copy, he should be watching film of Gronk. Graham is a soft, he hates being hit and nearly never initiates contact, ASJ is bigger and stronger than Graham, he’s a larger version of the physical Gronk, and he needs to use that physicality whenever possible against the smaller LBs and Safeties that draw the short straw and have to cover him, if he steam rolls an LB a couple of times, bet that LB backs off just a little each play, same for the poor safety who gets in his way.

ASJ has mid 4.5 speed. Not great but plenty for a tight end.

Our QBs should study Brees and his eyes and then open the offense up, we have the tools just need the correct plays called and the QB seeing the open man.

I agree with TruBucfan, I have not seen much of ASJ myself but….. dude looked super slow, rusty and choppy… maybe its because of his size. My question is, did we overestimate his speed? I dunno… however it would be nice to get him involved a bit more.

All three of our top picks have yet to make an impact because the idea was for them to work in unison.
So much individual talent but at some point we need see them healthy.

ASJ, and Arroyo should watch game tape of Antonio Gates, and mimic that.
He has enough speed the stretch the field, height to out jump the defenders, and strength to help block, and release in the running, and passing games.
ASJ is over due for a breakout performance especially now that Evans is going to be out for a few weeks.
I also wouldn’t mind the Bucs bringing back Tommy Streeter!

Trubucfan22 , I don’t think he ran at the Combine or the pro day; had foot surgery a couple days after the Comb. was over. Frank Cooney reported 4.62 to 4.85, at 262 lbs..
BTW–CB Brandon Dixon ran a 4.41 at the Comb..

We have 2 capable TEs in my opinion, Myers and ASJ. Obviously, with Evans out, someoe has to step up. Use them Arroyo!

I think we all know the guy can run routes and catch. The biggest improvement that I have seen from ASJ is his blocking. He wasn’t Jason Witten out there, but he was definitely better than the garbage blocking that I saw in the preseason and was actually walling guys off.
So far looks to be a could pick up for the foreseeable future.

You need a QB with accuracy if you’re going to make jump balls. Only hope is if we can work zone seams but i don’t see that happening.
