“They Should Be Playing Mike Glennon”
September 17th, 2014Senior NFL writer for CBSSports.com, prickly Pete Prisco, is a man with access and contacts, and he just shared not only his thoughts about the Bucs’ quarterback situation but his confrontation with Lovie Smith this summer.
Joe’s got the video below. It’s part of Prisco’s Week 3 NFL power rankings
No surprise, Prisco has downgraded the Bucs and he says they “should be playing Mike Glennon.” The Bucs segment of the video picks up at the 2:38 mark.
Prisco predicts a 27-18 Falcons victory tomorrow.
Joe sure hopes the Bucs win tomorrow night, or if they lose, that Josh McCown plays well. The Mike Glennon Mob already has gone national, and it’s going to go wild if McCown keeps making high school mistakes.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:34 pm
McCown going to have a good night.
“Mankins Maulers” going to protect him all night against this Atlanta rush.

show me Lovie that you are trying to win and I will root for wins as well!!!!
Its time for the Cannon!!!!!!
Go Bucs and Go Beer!!!
September 17th, 2014 at 12:36 pm
No such thing as a Mike Glennon Mob, Joe. Just a blogger insisting there is. I’d take a McDonald’s fry cook if they could be a mistake free game manager.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:39 pm
I’ll be in the dome watching this live. I sure hope we win. I don’t feel like being ridiculed on Marta again after a loss (last game I was at was Raheem’s last game. that was a rough train ride home)
a little more on topic:
If the Bucs start the season 0-5 or 1-4 i can see a change to Glennon for week 6, to get some game tape on him to study over the bye.
sure hope that’s not the case, though.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:40 pm
Caution: Joe, will have a heart attack if Mike Glennon starts again for the Bucs.
Please for the sake of Joe, play well Josh McCown!
September 17th, 2014 at 12:40 pm
Whoever can protect the ball, complete at least 60% of their passes and take a few judicious shots down the field is someone I will support. I don’t care what their name or pedigree is.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:40 pm
Joe, it’s not the Mike Glennon Mob. It’s the We Want To See What We Have in a Rookie Who Showed Promise in a Dumpster Fire Mob. Most fan bases would love to see that rookie in year 2. We benched him for a 35 year old backup.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:41 pm
Yea and Glennon grew a beard so that automatically translates to winning. It does take a neurosurgeon to figure out McCown was and always will be poopoocaca
September 17th, 2014 at 12:53 pm
Sheesh what does poor Glennon have to do to get some love from the local media like he does the National press, play a few rounds of golf with local talking heads or what?
September 17th, 2014 at 12:53 pm
I know you can’t really compare last years teams or can you? With no weapons and a bad line with Glennon it was 41-28 an 23-31. Now with weapons and if the line is better what could he do? If the defense holds and McClown pulls his throw it up for grabs, yank him.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:56 pm
FYI all, the Bucs part is around the 2.40 mark
September 17th, 2014 at 12:57 pm
I don’t think ANYONE believed, ever, that McCown was a “long term” answer at QB. He was brought in to help mentor a young QB and start until that QB is ready.
Whether it is Glennon remains to be seen.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:58 pm
Lovie will pick best available DE, DT, or CB in first round next year. Just don’t see him taking a QB. So with that prediction, we need to throw Glennon in the starting lineup and see what he can do with more than two people to throw the ball to like last year.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:59 pm
The_Buc_Realist Says
“show me Lovie that you are trying to win and I will root for wins as well!!!!”
Just as I always suspected. You are rooting for losses in the meantime then. True colors finally shown!!!
September 17th, 2014 at 1:00 pm
I suspect Lovie would rather sign a QB FA than draft a young one. On that, I think he and Gruden are alike.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:00 pm
Glennon is garbage but he’s better than josh mccown and Freeman which isn’t saying much so hard to argue Glennon should be the guy. I’d settle for mike kafka over mccown
September 17th, 2014 at 1:07 pm
lovie probably doesn’t like Glennon cause he’s smarter than Lovie!
seen it happen many times in business.
I never bought into the whole lap dog thing, but it’s starting to make sense.
licht gave away the farm for Mankins, got nothing for MW…off the top of my head.
leslie frasier???? the guy who got fired after hiring j fro 5 pack….our defense sucks
makes sense. he hires idiots so he has a fall guy when $hit goes south. or it sure is starting to look that way.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:08 pm
If McCown fails to win tomorrow count on Rex Grossman to get a call from the bucs. Dude I crack myself up.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:09 pm
Absolutely NOT….he or any QB will make little meaningful difference….save him for next year…
September 17th, 2014 at 1:11 pm
Hell put Glennon in as bad as the O line is he’ll be dead or in a body cast by week 6. Then we can stop hearing about him.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:19 pm
I’m a big Glennon supporter, but I do believe the offense will begin to gel and look good by week 8 with Glennon or McCown as the QB. The defense on the other hand has no chance. This part of the game was completely mismanaged by the Lovie-Licht team. I thought Lovie understood this when he said you can win 10 games with a good defense. This is why I’ve been harping all off season that the defense isn’t good enough when you bring back guys like Bowers, Clayborn, Foster, and Leonard Johnson. You have to get the defense right before worrying about offense. Look at the Saints..they won last year with a great defense. In 2012, they lost because their defense sucks. Now it looks like their defense stinks again. Look at Carolina…they start winning with kuechly. Look at Atlanta…their defense sucks and so do they.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:21 pm
Jameis Winston just screwed himself. He got suspended. Mariota here we come.
In the mean time, let Glennon sling the pig skin. He was better last year than what we have right now. I give McCown until tomorrow to prove himself. If he Fs up again then I expect to see Glennon in week 5.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:22 pm
I apologize for my previous statement. He just has to sit for the 1st half of the game on Saturday. I still think it doesn’t help him though.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:27 pm
Hmmmm not one comment from the MGM…..further proof that it’s all in Joe’s head. Just a bunch of fans watching a sub par back up spin our wheels while a rookie who was dubbed “the future” rides the pine. I dint care if you are a Glennon supporter or hater….if McCown craps the bed one more time then you have to make the switch.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:30 pm
Bring out the cannon.
Then again it was Licht that said he has a cannon. He’s just a little PR machine for the Bucs and he makes phones for Lovie here and there.
He probably fetches Lovie coffee from time to time too.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:33 pm
Thanks Joe for the info and your website, this place is great, we can seal club people for having their own opinion, link funny pictures, seems like almost anything goes here.. Keep up the good work.. Love it man..
September 17th, 2014 at 1:34 pm
I need glasses but I won’t admit it. I was trying to type on my wife’s kindle fire and my proof reading sucks on those dinky little things.
Anyways “he makes phone calls for Lovie” is what I meant. Jeesh!
September 17th, 2014 at 1:34 pm
Mark Sanchez would have been a better answer and possible long term answer instead of McCheckdown.

You forgot to mention nickname people too. Like Soggyass! lol
September 17th, 2014 at 1:37 pm
Sanchez is better than both QB’s and half the price of McCown.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:37 pm
Dare I say it… Josh Freeman could throw one helluva jump ball. With Evans, Vjax, and ASJ.
Naaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh I’m not going there!
September 17th, 2014 at 1:39 pm
I’m with the others, there is no MGM. We simply see a product on the football field that couldn’t get any worse and a QB that took over as a rookie and did nothing to lose the starting job to a career backup.
I’m hoping McCown goes crazy tomorrow with deep shots to our big guys and we get a win. It would be great for Glennon to have the year to sit back and learn, IF McCown performs like he did in Chicago.
Please Bucs, give the big fellas a chance to make a play!
September 17th, 2014 at 1:41 pm
@Buc1987, So true, Had to look twice I thought you were Dallasbuc for a second..lol
September 17th, 2014 at 1:42 pm
@robert lmao
September 17th, 2014 at 1:43 pm
87…your just lucky you found a wife who loves dinky little things….. 🙂
September 17th, 2014 at 1:45 pm
There are plenty of comments on here from Glennon fans. Glennon haters, make up your mind, there is a Mike Glennon Mob or there is’nt a MGM. Fans not commited previously to getting Glennon in the game are now supportive. I get it, you thought he stunk last year and have’nt changed your mind, whereas Glennon believers have always had faith in his play and potential growth. Yeah, the Glennon mob is out here, and just waiting for you haters to be proven wrong.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:45 pm
If Glennon was starting and making these same high school mistakes in two loses, the Non-MGM would be clamoring for the veteran McCown. There’s no reason for McCown to get a fourth start if he doesn’t play like a veteran tomorrow.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:48 pm
LOOK!
I was not at the last game. Thank God.
I was however at the opener and fans were already talking about putting Glennon in over McCown.
McCown is toast if the Bucs lose tomorrow night even if he has an average game.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:51 pm
it’s the floater balls and dumb int’s that are mcclown problem. you can’t fix that.
you can’t fix stupid.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:59 pm
No matter the team, the position, or the sport….it’s universal. If the veteran is tanking, and there is a rookie who has to prove himself on the bench…….you make the switch so you can at least see what you have.
If Mike Jenkins were still playing, starting, and tanking….do you watch the veteran that has been bad his entire career continue to suck? Or do you plug in Banks who has yet to prove himself but has promise?
This is pro sports 101……nothing MGM about it. But don’t let that stop the Joe’s or Duimig
September 17th, 2014 at 2:02 pm
By the way Joe’s……when you were on the air….and Steve complained that “the mob” dismisses McCown after his 5 games in Chicago……why did everyone gloss over the fact that some of us knew that without Trestman, McCown and Gannon would both be trash….that’s why those of us educated fans had no faith in McCown.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:03 pm
@buc1987
it was not just you, the fans, and the fans watching. Even the TV announcers were bringing it up.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:04 pm
If Glennon starts other than because of injury, I will quit watching until they get a new QB. Glennon is awful and Lovie is not grooming him to be the QB of the Future, that was just PR crap to keep Glennon in line when they got McCown and annointed him starter.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:11 pm
Our starting QB since March is Josh McCown. Just let that sink in. Apparently it has not for the better part of the last 7 months for most of you.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:11 pm
buctebow says glennon sucks. now thats funny right there
September 17th, 2014 at 2:19 pm
Let’s just offer 3 first rounders to the Patriots for Tom Brady and go to the playoffs again…
September 17th, 2014 at 2:22 pm
Let Lovie sink or swim with McCown. Not sure it makes a difference who is QB. Its going to be run first. Take no chances and let the defense win. Problem with that is the Defense can’t get off the field.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:24 pm
If Lovie is calling Glennon the QB of the future for this franchise, the future might as well be now. We know what we have in McCown, might as well play the QB everyone seems to think has no shot at becoming a quality starter. I think its too early to say what type of career Glennon will have as a pro. He did ok in a bad offensive scheme behind an underachieving line with a depleted group of receivers. Let him play. Whats the worst that can happen? They find out if Glennon can play or not and possibly lose more games?
September 17th, 2014 at 2:24 pm
tebow will never be a buc. LOL
September 17th, 2014 at 2:28 pm
DallasBuc great point again, then what in the hell were lovie, et all looking at on a day to day basis, I saw him in ONE preseason game and thought he sucked now 2 live bullet games and he sucks…..i like the sanchez calll from above, never thought of that, another poor personnel decision in a long list of them going on at one buc…..sanchez is the game manager lovie wants….glazers screwed it all by not offering ol chip kelly the farm and a piece of MAN U
September 17th, 2014 at 2:29 pm
Am I the only one that realizes Glennon was a rookie last year?? Then you add the chaos and turmoil that was around him and playing in the most vanilla of vanilla offenses with only 1 playmaker. What did you expect him to do? On the other hand you Josh who bn in this league forever and still throwing the ball up for grabs? Not to mention he was a careeer backup and did nothing his whole career. what’s to debate?
September 17th, 2014 at 2:30 pm
Tom Brady isn’t what he used to be and I wouldn’t want that premadona on our team anyways. Now you want to trade for a Russell Wilson then I’m game. He has a lot of years of football to go. Brady has a couple left.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:31 pm
Sad grade from PFF.com-Let’s hope the line can stay the course against this horrible Falcons rush, but…
Logan Mankins, LG: -3.5
Breakdown: After missing all but 10 snaps in his Buccaneer debut last week, Mankins returned for a troubling outing. Issues in both the run game and as a pass blocker defined his day as Michael Brockers, Robert Quinn and Aaron Donald each got the better of him at different points. Lowest grade for the former Patriot since his Super Bowl XLVI performance (-3.8).
September 17th, 2014 at 2:38 pm
Which idiot even knew who Mike Glennon was before last year?? You Glennon mob people have never seen a real QB before. That kid couldn’t out run a snail if he got ahead of it it’s because he tripped over it. C’mon!! Really?? Pls pray we draft a real QB if he is our starter we will not make the playoffs that is a promise.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:48 pm
Sometimes its so embarrassing being a Bucs fan. Only bad teams without a identity entertain the issues and questions that we do.
This have morphed from a non-rebuilding (playoff expectations) to a no QB – void of talent/depth and no scheme of a season.
I don’t feel Glennon gives us a significant opportunity to win because he’s a minimal game manager as well – he has never proved that he can win the games.
Just being out there isn’t enough and that’s what Glennon is – just another backup type. Lovie will have the opportunity to draft his QB this year and he better stay away from that fool at FSU!!!
September 17th, 2014 at 2:49 pm
I’m one of Glennon’s fan. I believe Glennon sees the field better than McCown, Glennon might not need to scramble a lot like McCown if he can make his reads faster, I mean Mannings, Bradys, Brees all are not mobile. We actually won games with Glennon last year in his rookie start, what is there not to believe in him?
September 17th, 2014 at 2:51 pm
oh BTW – my prediction is:
TB 15 – ATL 31
Falclowns offense will shred us apart and our play-calling will yield plenty of FGs in the red zone not TDs because we are afraid to let our weapons make plays.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:53 pm
“I’m one of Glennon’s fan. —————————————-
Clearly you didn’t see Glennon performance last year. Missing reads, missing throws, checking down too much, and more. Umm so won games – hello 4 – 12.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:54 pm
Architek as much as I would like to see the mysterious no-huddle offense and come out and sling the ball around, I just dont see it happening and I think you may be right with your prediction and the falcons suck. The past few years sullivan’s offense has been pretty good with the limited weapons that the qbs have had and also a much better O-line and worse WRs, at least they had the fade route in the packages
September 17th, 2014 at 2:56 pm
Mike glennon last year! you tell me this is not better than Josh Meltdown!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeDzn78MiYg
September 17th, 2014 at 3:11 pm
This will be joshs last game if he dont produce….
September 17th, 2014 at 3:17 pm
Realist –
It doesn’t matter, if Glennon was better then it would not be a discussion. This is normal “backup is better” chatter that happens in every city that DONT have a franchise qb!
Again go back and really evaluate Glennon and you will see he’s not bad but not good and not franchise.
September 17th, 2014 at 3:19 pm
I wonder if people said the same thing when Tom Brady was a backup. Or when Aaron Rodgers was a backup. Hell, even Foles was a backup.
September 17th, 2014 at 3:22 pm
There are only like 8 Franchise QBs out there. Peyton, Brees, Brady, Rodgers, Wilson, Kap, Newton, and possibly Foles and Dalton. The rest of them are expendable.
September 17th, 2014 at 3:23 pm
If the Bucs start Glennon week 1 last year, could be looking at a 3-1 start. Definitely beat the Jets and Saints because we almost did with Freeman all messed up on drugs playing horribly. Glennon would have done enough in both of those games. And then who knows where the Bucs go from 3-1. Man people hate Glennon for whatever reason (ex-Freemanites being the most likely scenario)
September 17th, 2014 at 3:25 pm
@The_Buc_Realist, I would take that right now.. Did I see some scrambling even a 1st down run? That could not be, Ya i remember most of that, but to fair he has made alot of mistakes to, but that being said i think we should play him now.. This season is toast. It always breaks down to buisness when change is made, so lets get down to buisness and make the change.. If he sucks throw McCown back in there and we can suck some more..
September 17th, 2014 at 3:27 pm
Skyline there are more than 8 out there, please tell me you wouldnt want Rivers? or Palmer? or stafford? Eli Manning? Matt Ryan? Alex Smith? Big Ben? even Bortles to be with the bucs right now…hell kirk cousins or mark sanchez who we probably could have had but we go with mclown……Id take any of those guys right this second they are all going or have been paid by their teams and can win now with this offense
September 17th, 2014 at 3:29 pm
I would add Ben, Rivers, and Ryan. You are right. The rest of those names no I wouldn’t. So now there are 11 franchise QBs.
You are saying QBs you would take not Franchise QBs. I would take a lot of the QBs, but I wouldn’t call them Franchise QBs.
September 17th, 2014 at 3:34 pm
Ok I kinda agree with you on that but they are an upgrade on the crap we have and bortles is going to be the real deal and stafford would set world records with our WRs…but alex smith sanchez would be upgrades over this crap and cmon eli has 2 super bowl rings under his belt…….oh well we have mclown that sux
September 17th, 2014 at 3:35 pm
Eli is a Josh Freeman to me. He was good at time and is terrible the rest.
Palmer and Smith are so-so, but not franchise.
Bortles hasn’t done anything so he isn’t franchise. Cousins has played one game, that isn’t franchise. Sanchez sure as hell isn’t franchise.
September 17th, 2014 at 3:36 pm
I meant to say Stafford is Franchise.
Saying Bortles is going to be the real deal is like saying Johnny Bench is going to be the real deal. We haven’t seen anything.
September 17th, 2014 at 3:38 pm
Pete prisco as an advisor to bucs!! That’s scary. I used to listen to this guy’s radio show in Jacksonville. This guy used to praise the Jaguars drafts every year. Genius. Wonder how many full bucs games he’s actually watched?
September 17th, 2014 at 3:42 pm
I don’t feel Glennon gives us a significant opportunity to win because he’s a minimal game manager as well – he has never proved that he can win the games.
———————————-
Thats your opinion and your entitled to it. But despite your opinion and anyone elses that wont be proven until he is given a chance. McCown sucks and could possibly be worse. We need to find out what Glennon can or can’t be now instead of wasting time. Were gonna lose with McCown either way, might as well see if we can win with Glennon.
September 17th, 2014 at 4:10 pm
Shoot lets make a trade for RG3. Seem like Cousins is gonna have a helliva year with the Skins.
September 17th, 2014 at 4:52 pm
“Lovie will have the opportunity to draft his QB this year and he better stay away from that fool at FSU!!!”
Pisssh if on the Bucs were so lucky.
September 17th, 2014 at 5:18 pm
Glennon haters…..Compare apples to apples.
Take a look at rookie QB stats for every starting QB across the league. Then get back to me. If you are too lazy I’ll just fill you in…..his rookie year was better than the majority….how you make such harsh judgement after a rookie year makes no sense to me at all.

What matters most is the OPPONENT you play, and how good they are at the time you play them! Many blogs list the strength of schedule based on what the opponent’s record was in the preceding season, which is ludicrous, since teams change dramatically from season to season due to injuries, coaching changes, new players, players maturing, and even luck. For example, the Atlanta Falcons were 13-3 in year 2012, and would have been predicted to be a formidable opponent in 2013, but yet they went 4-12. Even the lowly Bucs led by MG8 were able to beat them once.
A much better estimate of the strength of schedule is to look at the opponent’s record for the year in which you played them, NOT the year before.
The MG8 led Bucs played the 17th ranked schedule based on the 2012 records of their opponents. But in the actual 2013 season the Bucs beat the 4-12 Falcons once; beat the 6-10 Bills; beat the 7-9 Lions, and beat the 8-8 Dolphins. They also played and lost the remainder to the 4-12 Falcons, 7-9 Rams, the 8-8 Jets, the 10-6 Eagles, the 10-6 Cardinals, the 11-5 Saints twice, the 12-4 49er’s, the 12-4 Patriots, and the 12-4 Panthers twice, as well as once to the 13-3 Seahawks. Several of those teams made the playoffs, and/or were ranked in the top ten defensively. Their aggregate record was 147-109, which is THE Toughest schedule of all the teams in the NFL for 2013!

Josh McCown lit it up in 5 games against the 12th(Balt), 13th(St.L), 24th(GB), 26th(Dall), and 32nd(Minn) ranked scoring defenses for 2013.
MG8 and the Bucs offense managed to beat the 8th(Mia), 15th(Det), 20th(Buff), and 27th(Atl) ranked scoring defenses for 2013.
They also played and lost to the 7th(Ari), 13th(StL), 17th(Pha), and 27th(Atl) ranked scoring defenses.
And they also played and lost five games against the #1,#2,#3, and #4 ranked scoring defenses for 2013; i.e. Seattle, Carolina x 2, San Francisco, and New Orleans, all playoff teams, with the WORST record among them for New Orleans at 11-5.
Many good QBs did not fare so well against those quality teams., yet MG8 was supposed to do so as a rookie.

When someone downs Glennon and acts like they know about a bad QB i know they havent been a Bucs fan from Spurrier to now .. i have seen bad qb play and Glennon wasnt that bad ….
September 17th, 2014 at 9:39 pm
How hilarious to read “If he keeps making high school mistakes” then the half decent back up will get put in… LOL, no duh, minus the over analysis
September 17th, 2014 at 9:59 pm
And so Joe’s hatred for Glennon resurfaces
September 17th, 2014 at 11:16 pm
People who say “Glennon” is garbage are either dumb as #&*# or blind. The guy did very well for a rookie; much better than any of us expected. He SHOULD be starting without a doubt right now.
September 18th, 2014 at 3:38 am
I read someone on here the other day say Glennon would be starting by sometime in Game 4. I now believe they are right. Lovey sold the Glazers a load of SH#T that he could win 10 games with defense alone. Then he turns around and decimates (that means destroy – for all you damn Yankees) our offensive line and did a pi$$ poor job of free agency.Way to go Mr basement coach. Lovey benched Glennon to appease Steve D. and Booger and gang (all the media types are just the blind leading the blind). That way he thought he’d have a smooth go of things (as opposed to Chicago where the press fried his ass for doing there what he did last Sunday and will do again and again unless Joel and his brothers sit him down and jerk a knot in his ass. As for Glennon, They should have traded him when they had teams wanting him. It was only after they had Sh!t and fell back in it by signing McCown with a guarantee that he would be the starting QB that they discovered the worth on the open market for Glennon. It is time Lovey to prove you have a manly set.
September 18th, 2014 at 8:04 am
On one hand, I like that Lovie has no problem telling the media essentially “you will not dictate how I run my team”.
On the other hand, in the case of the quarterback Priso is right.
September 18th, 2014 at 11:29 am
Even Madden 15 has Glennon starting ahead of McCown
September 18th, 2014 at 11:41 am
Of course Glennon should be starting. We’ve been saying this all year. If McCown goes full retard again out on the football field it’s time to play Glennon.
Don’t hate the 8.
September 18th, 2014 at 11:45 am
“Joe” wasn’t down on Glennon so much last year. Duemig has rubbed off on Joe.

McCown not half the QB that Glennon is. Smith needs to swallow his pride and insert the best player in the lineup at the team’s most important position. Glennon needs carte blanche to check off because of the abominable play calling.
