McCown, Johnson, Foster Miss Practice

Lovie Smith reacts

The number of wounded Buccaneers is dropping.

Only three missed practice today: Josh McCown, Michael Johnson (who?) and Mason Foster.

Johnson really must be having trouble with his twisted ankle. He ran and cut hard in pregame warmups in Atlanta, and he played a handful of snaps in the blowout. But now, six days later, he can’t practice.

The details of Johnson’s ankle aren’t clear, but it sure sounds like the dreaded high ankle sprain, which typically lingers.

Joe’s not sure what kind of loss Johnson is, given that he was invisible in preseason and on opening day.

What is very exciting is the return to pads and action of Austin Seferian-Jenkins. The Bucs and Mike Glennon surely need that big, versatile, manbeast target in the middle of the field.

Lovie Smith said Gerald McCoy “looked pretty good” in practice today despite being “limited.”

    Michael Johnson is a bust!

  2. DallasBuc Says:

AnotherJ- I agree, that guy is a beast! Oh wait, you said bust…

  3. Ray Rice Says:

And to think that some people tagged him the next Simeon. WTF were they smoking…. Lansanah can replace Foster. 3 men down and none of them make a difference anyway.

  4. Brian Says:

He’s a huge loss…Gholston/Johnson is infinitely better than Gholston/English, Solomon, or whoever the hell we’re trotting out there this weekend.

  5. BlakeJohnson Says:

Another j, dude got to play like 10 snaps before getting that ankle injury. it’s just another unlucky bounce that the bucs have incurred this season. Michael Johnson is a force when healthy.

  6. rayjay1122 Says:

I liked the BUSTS on the Tampa Bay Breeze better. Can they play the Steelers???? Please???

Just like in preseason when he was healthy?

    Umm, no.

So much for a VJax broken wrist. “Reports” are always fun.

Here are my reactions to the news listed above…..

    Josh McCown missed practice….YAY!!!!!!!!
    Mason Foster missed practice……DANG!!!!
    Micahel Johnson missed practice ….WHO??????

Best news is ASJ is back!!!! Glennon will need him badly on Sunday!!!!!!

  10. Buc1987 Says:

Off topic : Russ stop spamming Tebow all over the site. Tebow can’t throw a football that’s why his career is over.

  11. ddneast Says:

Have to agree with Blake. Johnson got the sprain in no the frst quarter of the first games would it have m add any difference if he had 5 sacks in the preseason. The Bucs defense played great n the preseason and now look. Can you people count? 3 of the 4 starting defensive lineman were out Thursday.
Cutting in pure game is a lot different than real game stress. Some of you clowns would be entertained by rattles and if that is the case, just shake your heads.

  12. mpmalloy Says:

    Johnson = POSER

  13. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Wonder if Doug Martin will get the start if he goes this weekend. Rainey may have fumbled away his chance at starting for now.

  14. 77 bassguitarist Says:

    Lol….joe i love the Michael johnson (who?)..lol

  15. richardtyson Says:

We wouldn’t be talking about Johnson if “The Team Killer” had drafted an end that was talented.

  16. james west Says:

yea, you doesn’t have to call me Johnson, johnson. hasn’t even sniffed the cologne of an opposing QB, let alone get a sack. just another high profile player on a never ending carousel of failed signings for this club. lovie you are not alone on this one, for there have been many throughout the years with this club, over different coaching regimes. that being said, this looks like a reoccurring theme with lovie, he had the same knock in Chicago, and the overwhelming consensus was his poor personel decisions, and lack of O line, with his lackluster offensive protocol had cost his club a championship, as well as multiple playoff appearences. that is why he was let go in Chicago, and that is why he will be let go in tampa. only we will have to live with him for probably another year or two, before the “G” men (glazers) will yield to public pressure.

  17. Snook Says:

He’ll be on IR here shortly and really collecting free paychecks.

  18. richardtyson Says:

    Head Coaching Career Stats

    Raheem Morris – 17-31
    Greg Schiano – 11-21
    Jon Gruden – 95-81
    Lovie Smith – 81-66

2 of these coaches have winning records. Lovie will be waving goodbye to his after next season because of a lack of talent on this team. The point is you don’t make bad personnel decisions or schemes and end up with a winning record in the NFL. Lovie had sustained success with the Bears. Let’s give him some time to fill this roster with talent before we jump to conclusions.

  19. Jon Says:

Exactly that Lovie could be one and done. you can’t miss on spending over 150 million and watch your best players get worse (LVD). Miss on trades, let solid players walk (Ted Larsen starts for 3-0 Arizona) and not have a better option at OC on the entire staff. This team use to have talent they got rid of some of it and McCown ruined the rest of it.

  20. Zam Says:

Joe you are merciless with the (who?)… love it.

  21. Paul Says:

Bowers not on there? Is he on IR then?

  22. Mike10 Says:

Alllll that money to Johnson.. lol How in the world can we trust Lovie’s player evaluation EVER moving forward after all the bone head moves this offseason.

And we knew it! Questions have been flying all offseason about some of these decisions.

  23. BucsQcCity Says:

    It’s a bust life

  24. Mike J Says:

Personally, I think Fletcher is an upgrade as a two-down player at mike, & I tend to believe Lansanah is the same at sam. I wanted an upgrade at SLB in January, but nnnnnnoooo…, to quote John Belushi.

  25. buc4lyfe Says:

Players ball out, have great stats and careers, get to Tampa and fans call them busts!!! Coincidence I think not.

  26. DIEHARDBUCS Says:

RAY RICE: Who is this freaking moron! You think because some guy off the bench made a pick six against backups he can replace foster? Your an idiot, they don’t even play the same position. Your not even a fan, all you do is complain and talk about replacing people after they make a mistake.

JOE FOR GOD SAKE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BAN THIS RAY RICE JACK OFF!

    thank you

  27. richardtyson Says:

    Michael Johnson(who?) Michael Bennett(where?)

  28. DallasBuc Says:

Diehardstinkhole- stop asking the Joes to ban someone because YOU happen not to agree with them. You have pulled this nonsense before…on me if I’m not mistaken! It makes you sound intolerant and scared. Lots of people think different things and this is the best place for Buc fans to hash it out. Get with the program you baby.

  30. ElioT Says:

I hope they keep Johnson out until he is healthy. They need to see what the guy can really do. Can’t have the “nagging” injury excuse all f***ing year. Get him ready, and make him prove that contract.

    Go Yucs!

    No shyte.

  32. Jim Walker Says:

Only the Raiders and Jaguars are as pathetic as the Bucs.

  33. nate Says:

Lets see michael johnson, eric wright, carl nicks some of the biggest busts of all time!

  34. BucIt941 Says:

These guys need to be on the field. I am not so afraid of Big Ben, although i know he could cut this D up in a second. I am much much more worried about Bell and Blount. Say what you want Blount is still a good Rb and should still be on this team. Enough of the past, we need to get our S$%t together or these 2 will run all over our Defense.

  35. BucIt941 Says:

To think we just threw away Blount, Bennet, Talib, Zuttah and Joeseph. All whom are doing very well on their respective teams. All awhile those positions are struggling on this very team. Exactly who evaluates the talent around here?

  36. BucIt941 Says:

Hell if secondary player like Roy Miller, Geno Hayes, and Dakota Watson are doing well for the Jags this year!

  37. Capt.Tim, trapped in Davie Jones's locker Says:

    DiehardbucFan
Foster won’t be back next year at MLB. He lacks the cover skills to play this defense.
Before you throw a tantrum- do a lil research.
Foster( not his fault) is part of the problem- not the solution.

We trade, release or refuse to re-sign good players when
    they have a payday due.
GM and HC have nothing to do with it; It’s ownership
making the cheap call from behind their curtain of
secrecy. If you haven’t noticed the media and ex-coaches
are terrified to say a bad word about the owners.
(However Dominick recently hinted at it).
Lovie said we need to spend to the cap, but we’re 7 million
under right now. That’s the owners. If you can’t see that
then you’re a shill or an idiot.

    # Fire the Bucs fans, this is all their fault!

  39. buctebow Says:

“I’m not going to ask the fans to be patient” Yeah, right.
What is worse than crappy? crappier, what is worse than crappier? crappiest, what is worse than crappiest? The Bucs, the absolute worst team in the league with no hope of redemption. At least with the Jags and the Raiders there are bright spots and some inkling of hope for the future. With the Bucs, all three phases of the game are pathetic. We have zero and I mean zero stars that make splash plays (because we have no stars and certainly no splash plays). The only question is what quarter will the Bucs be playing against the Steelers backups. Yeah, I’m pretty disappointed this year.
