Lovie Must End The Controversy

September 28th, 2014

Being a new general in the Mike Glennon Mob doesn’t mean Joe isn’t realistic about Glennon.

No. 8 was stout and poised today in the second half, but the game hardly displayed Glennon’s best. Maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe not.

He got the win in Pittsburgh, which stunned the NFL world and guaranteed a great week for Bucs fans. Thanks, Glennon! But Glennon’s lack of mobility was exposed today and he made several bad throws, completing 50 percent of his passes.

Again, perhaps that shows just how much Glennon has to improve, all while still being good enough to win on the road in Pittsburgh behind a 304-yard day and only one interception that wasn’t his fault.

Regardless, Glennon is riding high but has much more to prove before anyone calls him a “franchise” quarterback with a straight face.

And that’s ok.

What’s clear, however, as Joe’s written many times in the past 10 days, is that Glennon must be given the full blessing as the starter by Lovie Smith tomorrow. That’s right, tomorrow at Lovie’s news conference.

There is no point to Josh McCown ever returning at the Bucs’ No. 1 quarterback unless it’s in a relief role. The experiment is over. There is no reason to have McCown cloud hanging over the team.

As Jason Licht himself said on the Buccaneers Radio Network pregame show, the man dubbed the “quarterback of the future,” Glennon, well, “that future is now.”

Lovie must realize that publicly going all-in with Glennon is in the best interest of all things Bucs. There’s no need for drama and a circus-like atmosphere.

Joe suspects Bucs players are ready for Glennon to officially take over as leader of the offense. There’s got to be a stabilizing benefit there.

Just do it, Lovie. Don’t let a potential controversy linger and grow.

Joe, much as you want to be, you are NOT a member of the Glennon mob. Reserved for those of us who wanted him as starter going back to the JFro days.

  2. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Thankfully, the amount McCown is getting paid isn’t too bad to absorb. I actually think he had more fun as the QB Coach today.

I will be surprised if Lovie makes the change though.

What would really impress me? If McCown went to Lovie and requested Glennon remain the starter. He gets paid the same and if he is really about the team, it would be the right thing.

    Doubt it will happen though.

  3. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Also, I’m not MGMer, but Joe only just joining and suddenly declaring himself a “general” seems wrong somehow, lol. 😉

  4. RCH Says:

    Ugh dugh?????

  5. DB55 Says:

Nah F* that! Keep slamming Glannon and calling him garbage. Keep him motivated to fired up that way he can come out to prove everybody wrong I’d rather see that.

  6. Warren Says:

Ton of dropped passes too don’t forget. Close to 10 I would say. He made zero stupid decisions and kept us moving all day long. Drives generally stalled due to drops at the wrong time. So yeah Glennon deserves a TON of credit for this win.

  7. nate_tweetz Says:

I agree with you Joe. I thought the coaching staff had a pretty good day today (Lovie included). However, if Lovie remains stubborn with his feelings about McCown, it will negate the coaching job done today. You have got to see what you have in Glennon before this season comes to an end. McClown has had his chance to show us that a 5 game hot streak does not change a career backup QB into a starter. Ride with Glennon this year and let McClown get paid his $5 million to hold the clipboard.

  8. gt40bear Says:

No, no, NO! You cannot be so long the leader of the MGM derision club and just think you can ease into a commission is the MGM! Especially at the rank of General! If you’re nice, we’ll let you start as a noncom, say sargeant! Welcome but don’t be eyeballing us!

  9. Buc1987 Says:

I’m MGM. The ONLY reason why I became MGM in the first place was I was tired of all the bashing of this poor kid.

He’s the new leader of the offense. As far as this season goes. As far as I’M concerned anyways.

Pittsburgh’s a tough LOUD place to play. Tampa fans don’t know what a loud stadium is like. Or they’ve forgotten. The Steelers fans don’t let up with the noise.
    Unlike RJS.

Give this kid credit in a hostile environment for damn’s sake already!

He went up to Seattle TOO in a hostile environment as rookie under Schiano and played very well against the SB Champs.

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

I don’t see Lovie starting MG past McCown being cleared to play. If he does stay with MG it will surprise me. MG played a good clutch game and how any fault can be found in his play escapes me. He was’nt perfect, but good enough after what I saw thrown out there in the 3 losses.

  11. Andrew 1 Says:

    @1987

Nice to see your tune change, no offense but you’ve been a real downer lately. Having said that, Glennon had a good game today, and the game ball should probably go to him.

  12. Buc1987 Says:

Buccfan37…be prepared to be surprised. Or at this point pray to be surprised.

  13. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Instead on believing that there is a such thing as a so called Mike Glennon Mob… why don’t you just come out and call it like it is… there is a large group of losers out there who wish ill will for the young and fledgling QB… this group is known as the MGH8s…. known as Mike Glennon Haters.

So, MGH8ers….. guess what, Mike Glennon is NOT the problem with the Buccaneers. The problem lies with Lovie Smith’s God awful pass defense… bend and break cover 2 just won’t work in the NFL… unless you are banking on Mike Glennon throwing for 300 yds every game.

  14. Pat Says:

It is what it is. Perhaps the STARS aligned for this to happen. Not sure but this is the 1st time in FRANCHISE history since 1976, yes, 1976, that a BUCS team won against the STEELERS. Who led that DRIVE? GO BUCS!

  15. Ray Rice Says:

Joe is what I call a D*CK rider and goes all in with the flavor of the month. He calls himself a general. That’s some BULL A$$ $HIT.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

Andrew …all I asked was that the team look prepared to play a game of football. I had not seen it until today in the 1st quarter.

That’s when I jumped back on the Love Train.

I said win or lose this game, I’ve already seen enough. It was only the 1st qtr.

  17. Warrenfb12 Says:

    Joe,

Myself and many others don’t believe “lack of mobility” is necessarily a bad quality for a qb. Glennon is a pocket passer. He hangs in the pocket. Brady and manning have been dominating the NFL for years with a “lack of mobility.”

  18. Buc1987 Says:

Joe… you’re taking on some serious flak. You might need to pull up.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I don’t think Lovie needs to make the decision yet…..he probably has at least one more game to look at Glennon as starter….he can always hide behind McCown’s injury for a bit. That’s the political thing to do….besides Lovie loves secrets.
As much as most want him to…..I think Lovie is tight-lipped about the QB position going forward.
Is it me or is Doug Martin just not quite what he used to be?…..just seems like Rainey & James get more yds after hits….

  20. Andrew 1 Says:

Is there such a mob as “whoever gives us the best chance to win” mob? This whole mob stuff is getting really stupid.

  21. The Ether Says:

The last thing Joe would want is for Lovie to go all in on Glennon… A QB controversy is nothing but good business for Joe.

As for Glennon, he earned another few starts… He got better as the game went on, which he never did last year. So thats worth a couple more looks… Id like to see how much better he’s gotten from last year.

And as for the MGM, you know those guys are circle-jerkin it tonight!

  22. BUC4LIFE79 Says:

I wholeheartedly agree. While you may be able to chalk up alot of today’s performance to a team wanting to redeem itself after such a pathetic outing last week, it all boils down to the fact that Glennon is the only QB out of 3 that have played for the Bucs within the past 2 seasons to win ANY games, PERIOD.

  23. Buc1987 Says:

robert7 or 9 or 8…is the Commander in Chief of the MGM.

He wanted Glennon to start week 1 of last season ahead of Freeman.

Kept telling us all that Glennon was going to be the man.

Some of us like me told him during training camp that Glennon wasn’t fit to hold Freeman’s jock strap.

So he should decide whether Joe is worthy or not. As far as that’s concerned.

  24. The Ether Says:

Is there such a mob as “whoever gives us the best chance to win” mob? This whole mob stuff is getting really stupid.

    ……..

Yeah, that mob is called the Bucs fanbase… The rest of the guys on here, who single out one guy for todays victory, those over-emotional irrational guys are a whole different breed…

  25. Jeagan1999 Says:

Of course MG8 can get better. I don’t think anyone, including those of us who were in the MGM from the get go, ever claimed that MG8 was an All-Pro QB just yet. What we said was he had enough potential to warrant a chance to be the starter and grow into the position. I think Mikey Cannon will continue to improve with more reps (don’t forget that McCown had ALL the starters reps since the day Lovie came back to Tampa). Will he be Andrew Luck or Matt Ryan right away, probably not…he may have some growing pains along the way…but the kid has poise, guts and a strong arm…I think he may be a very good QB for the BUCS for many years to come..allowing us to fix the issues we have at other positions, and not have to invest a first round pick on another WB. FIRE THE CANNON!!!!!

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ 87

I wonder if Glennon at at Applebees on Six Forks Rd….when he was at NC State?

  27. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    ate

  28. Pelbuc Says:

If McClown play in today’s game, no doubt Bucs lose. I’m happy for Glennon who keeps getting thrown into tough situations and the kid always shows poise. Today he also showed he can be clutch. Give me a 50% completion QB in Gennon who knows how to find the end zone over a 75% completion QB in McCown who personally lost the Bucs the first 2 games. So JBF, when you talk to DUImig, tell him his beloved “Opey” won the game but he’ll probably find a way to give credit to the linebackers covering the tight end. Hopefully, Lovie will realize that this team can rally around Glennon cuz he doesn’t throw ints to start and finish the games. Go Bucs!

  29. Soggy Says:

Some people just dont get it they bash glennon and make excusses for big ben.. they rather see glennon benched than prove them wrong, we cant go 0-16 now sorry draft pickers, if the saints lose tonight we are tied for last place if things go right next week we could be back in this thing..Umm

  30. Trubucfan22 Says:

Glennon played good, but he really didn’t play better than McCown did in his first 2 starts. The main difference is that Glennon threw as many times as McCown did in the first 2 games combined. The offense finally opened up. And it wasn’t thanks to Glennon being on target all game, it was thanks to the coaching staff giving the players the opportunity to play. I think Lovie finally realized we need to play in the new nfl, and that means move the ball through the air. Glennon did some great things and some meh things. Luckily the good out did the bad.

I really have no doubt in my mind if McCown was in at QB with the same play calls, he would have performed better than Glennon did.

Kudos to the coaching staff for letting the players play. And kudos to Glennon for doing just enough to win the game. It was a big game and the bucs aren’t dead yet.

This game proved Glennon just might be a decent QB in the future. But we live in the now. And right now McCown is still the better QB. Joe might be looking for the future, but Glennon needs to clean up a lot of his game, and he can still learn a thing or two while holding the clip board. No need to rush Glennon into bad tendencies, let him learn the game, and become a better QB before we throw him out there prematurely. Obviously with McCown hurt we have no choice but to play him, but when McCown is healthy we should play McCown. Glennon isn’t ready, even with today’s win. No need to rush and make desperation moves. This season is a throw away either way. Let Glennon sit and learn its better than having him learn bad habits because he isn’t ready.

joe, i counted 10 dropped passes. just that i remember from the game, im sure there was more. thats a lot of drops that simply should not roll back on glennon. i feel like 50% is a misleading stat. the man played great.

did you not watch the first 3 games ?

  35. DB55 Says:

Mclown makes a better coach than player.

  36. Mike Glennon Mob Says:

    Joe,

How can you become a general right off the bat? You need to climb the ranks.

  37. cmurda Says:

Wow. I’m surprised to see so many fans saying Lovie won’t commit to Glennon. He has no choice at this point. It’s obvious and it’s the right thing to do. I think Lovie does the right thing and goes all in with MG8.

  38. Buc1987 Says:

@Trubucfan22…well isn’t that nice. Someone that still thinks the 25 year career back up is better than Glennon.

    And without a doubt.

  39. Andres Says:

Why? Lovie will be smart and not put all the cards on the table any little edge helps.

  40. "that guy" Says:

mccown should sign as a QB coach. if he stayes on the roster hes better suited being a running back, counting on his 0 passing touchdowns to 4 rushing touchdowns. i think he might have the most rushing tds on the team right now, but im not sure so dont quote me.

  41. buccanAy Says:

As a proponent for giving MG a chance to start, a chance well deserved, I have a bad feeling we’re gonna hear the “Josh is my QB” line. I hope I’m wrong but the one person that may keep this team from winning is the HC.

  42. SteveK Says:

    Go Bucs! Go Glennon!

  43. Buddhaboy Says:

Lovie wont declare, he will waffle. Thats what he does. Him declaring MGM the starter for the remainder would mean he made a mistake. And as nice of a guy Lovie is, he wont do that.

It doesnt matter. If MGM can turn out to be a “Brad Johnson” type of player, that would be awesome. Bull wasnt all that mobile either.

  44. DB55 Says:

And this my friends is called DENIAL.

    @truebucfan

I really have no doubt in my mind if McCown was in at QB with the same play calls, he would have performed better than Glennon did.

  45. 911bucs Says:

If he could keep doing what he’s doing but increase his completion percentages he will be scary good

  46. Destinjohnny Says:

He needs to work on his fades- for his first start in a. New offense you have to give him a solid b plus

  47. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ DB55

lol. I think he did get dinged up a little bit, but for the most part it looked Lovie was rotating all the defensive linemen for the entire game. Think he was trying to keep them fresh.

  48. Buc1987 Says:

I predict Lovie will go with Glennon for the rest of the season regardless.

I guess it’s wait and see.

  49. Hawaiian Buc Says:

4 games into the season, there is one thing that is painfully obvious to me: this team is not a run first team. There’s no way around it. Our offensive line is not built to punish people on the ground. The sooner the coaches realize that obvious fact, the sooner this offense will get rolling. For once, we have weapons in the passing game. Jackson, Evans, Sefarian-Jenkins, and (dare I say) Murphy are all threats in the passing game. Let’s use those guys!!! Look what happened when we opened it up today. Look what happened last year when we opened it up. There’s a pattern there, and I really hope someone in the organization recognizes it. The NFL is set up to favor the passing game – so take advantage of it!! Please don’t run the ball every first down next week, or we could be revisiting the Atlanta game. We aren’t going to beat team 12-9. Open it up, let Glennon go, and let’s see what we have with #8.

  50. SteveK Says:

Glennon took a step in the right direction.

Can’t wait for the Joe Bucs Fan radio hour.

The host will harp on 50% comp.

Glennon took a step forward today, and that should be admitted.

MGM, let us rise up and close the 620 WDAE phones from 3:00-6:00 pm. It is time to hear about the truth, dogg!

  51. Jon Says:

He will be fine for the rest of this season. They need to draft a franchise QB they should have a high enough pick.

  52. Buc1987 Says:

    17-0 Dallas!

  53. chargedcbh Says:

Joe did the same thing with Freeman, he called Freeman every name in the book before he even started. Then he had to come back & look eat his words, the same thing is happening with Glennon.

    That’s ludicrous.–Joe

  54. bucrightoff Says:

You know for as horrific as the first three games were, the division has taken a big step back. If the Bucs next win in New Orleans they’re going to at worst be 1 game out of the division lead. New Orleans not looking good right now or all season at all. Going back to McCown now would be demoralizing to the team, Glennon clearly gives them the best chance to win.

  55. Delson Says:

I like mike mariota but if glennon can stay confident in his arm n his receivers then I see no reason to draft a qb. But I’m hopin n wishin the offensive playcalling stays as open as that second half. Mike Evans please come back!!!

  56. chargedcbh Says:

I think 95% of the fans don’t care who s starting, just win! Not just this year but next year & the year after that.

  57. Tackleblockwin Says:

Joe I agree with many on here. You are not a General of the MGM, more like a Private with possible loyalty concerns…lol.

  58. Buc1987 Says:

    chargedcbh…try 100%

  59. DB55 Says:

I think Lovie finally realized we need to play in the new nfl, and that means move the ball through the air.
    ————

Lovie was hoping for a “I told you so situation” but instead glennon held onto the ball, converted third downs and scored points. Martin didn’t do much but he didn’t fumble ball. I thought Glenn and was going to stall at 256 yards passing one touchdown one interception but he got the ball back and came through in clutch time, talk about sweet redemption.

Where is this up-tempo office we keep hearing about Glenn is at his best in the up-tempo offense. Bring on the Saints!

  67. Eric Says:

The man just beat the Steelers.

  69. Buc1987 Says:

  70. Buccos Says:

Where are all of the Lovie haters now? The first Bucs coach to ever win in Pittsburgh. Not a bad accomplishment if you ask me. I almost forgot what a come from behind win was like. When is the last time that happened. Haven’t heard much from DallasBuc, huh? Maybe Lovie does know what he is doing after all. I say we give a free pass to all of the haters to get back on the Lovie bandwagon. I understand… 0-3 was painful. Now that we got that first win under our belt, it is a brand new season. If
New Orleans loses tonight we will be alright. Can’t wait to play the a Falcons again in our house!

  71. Bryan Says:

Good lord Joe! You have been demoted in the mob. Maybe a sergeant now at best.

He only completed 50% but there were many drops and an int when Mike Evans pulled up gimby.

He got a win in a very tough place against a very tough opponent. Those around him did not play well (see V-Jax until the 2nd half) and they could not get the plays in and our center had his head up his bum. Yet Glennon still led them to victory. What is your obsession with mobility. Take a look around the league. They best QB’s are almost all pocket passers.

I thought you would finally give the guy his due after a signature come from behind win.

    Damn Joe!

  72. DB55 Says:

    Joe

Can we talk about lavonte David’s 10 tackles or nah? You working up 2 or 3 more GMC articles?

So lavonte david, Wow that guy can play some football.

Glennon is probably smarter than McClown. We need that especially with a phantom OC.

  78. Eric Says:

Really no need for a mob anymore.

    The coup has taken place.

Is their a living soul who wants McCown back as starter? im not sure Mccown would name himself starter.

  79. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Lurker and Truebucfan22 still want McClown back… but that’s only because they are racists against red heads.

  80. Andrew 1 Says:

I just hope Mike Evans is hurt to bad. Never broken any bones, but I’ve pulled my groin several times, and aside from them being very painful they can linger for a while. It’s a shame to, he was looking really good. Get better soon Evans.

  81. DB55 Says:

    Bucco

Read my post. Lovie was hoping for an I told you so. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was hands off on offense like hey I told you guys tedford wasn’t here, I have no OC, you know we got a Arroyo calling the plays, our second string guy at QB. Hostile environment. Lovie was covered had he lost. Trust me all you cialis guys would have been throwing out excuses left and right. He was just saying “it takes time” today. Yes Lovie it takes from April to Sept just like every other team. Gimmeafuckingbreak if glennon would have thrown 2-3 ints we would be talking about Kafka and shaw right now.

    #childplease glennon says #kissthebaby

  82. Soggy Says:

@Buccos, I dont hate lovie just some of the descsions he has made, he did crown mcCown without QB compation = more or less benching glennon, he passed on hester who I call the one man recking ball and I will just stop here. but looks like the team is play hard for him now and we are still in the hunt..Really hope he does not go back to mcCown..

Which is why I never wanted McLown in the first place. I think this team sees all the hard work he does. i read many times last year of him staying late, extra work with V-jax. The kid is dedicated, yeah he may be no Tom Brady or Drew Brees, but he is one tough kid and he plays with heart.

  86. BFFL Says:

To play that good in Pittsburg with no run game support was very impressive of Glennon. He stepped up and made some big throws on 3rd down. A few throws in the red zone were off, but he definitely made up for it with that cannon to Murphy that was right on the money. As one of the initial members of the MGM, there is no way in hell Joe is our general. At best Joe can be considered our Gomer Pyle.

  87. DB55 Says:

How about banks with the defended TD pass on 3rd down in the first qrt. Led Pitt to settle for a fg. Had he let the rvc score it would have been the difference in the ball game.

I like banks, David, Barron, McDonald, gholston, Lansana, Verner is ok. First 5 are my fav players this year on d. Barron may not cover like you want him to but he can hit and I love big hits.

    Joe,

How can you become a general right off the bat? You need to climb the ranks.
    ——————————————————————————-

I had him at “plebe” when he first announced.

I guess I can picture a “general” when I think of a banana republic type, very fat, with a chestful of medals, and a big, fat cigar. LOL, general!!

  90. ryan Says:

The MGM is the most delusional group of fans. If the goal of the Mob is to have the Bucs flirt with being a .500 team every year then lets ride the 4th best QB in the division for the next few years until Brees retires. Then maybe he can become the 3rd best QB.

For the Bucs fans who would like to see a Super Bowl contender in the next couple of years, let’s hope Lovie realizes in this NFL would need a gamechanger at QB and goes after the kid from Oregon next April/May.

    joe says:

“No.

But Glennon’s lack of mobility was exposed today and he made several bad throws, completing 50 percent of his passes.”
    ————————————————————————————
joe, i counted 10 dropped passes. just that i remember from the game, im sure there was more. thats a lot of drops that simply should not roll back on glennon. i feel like 50% is a misleading stat. the man played great.

    ______________________________________________________

    Joe knows math!
    21 0f 42 = 50% completion percentage

but if only two drops were caught:
    23 of 42 = 55%

And if only 4 dropped passes were caught:
    25 of 42 = 59.5%

Everyone complains about checkdowns, too. But…….
    21 of 42 for 302 yards = 14.4 yards per completion.

Only one sack for the game despite throwing downfield for 302 yards =
    no mobility?????

Joe, you sound like you’re a believer like St. Thomas was.

  95. Buc1987 Says:

@ryan…we’ll be delusional ,you can just sit back and watch how Lovie proceeds with the season and the next draft as far as Glennon is concerned.

We’ll see if he takes a QB or not.

  96. ryan Says:

@Buc1987 rank the QBs in the NFC South then.

  97. Soggy Says:

What did people see tonight in heinz field that would say we have no chance for a run in our division..I know it is a lot to ask but so was winning today..

  98. Buc1987 Says:

ryan… I don’t need to rank anything QB right now….QB rankings per division mean nothing to me. Apparently to you they do though.

Get that… nothing to me. This team is going to take a little bit to get going and I don’t see them being high enough to draft a decent enough QB in the draft.

Like I said we’ll see….The kid is still learning and why rank him right now? Are you expecting a SB in the next 1-2 years? I’m not.

Mike Glennon with WEAPONS (unlike last season) and a very strong D can win a lot of games in the NFL imo.

Like I said though we’ll see how things go the rest of the way.

  99. JT Says:

I must admit…after the atl game I said “Lovie sucks!” Among other mean hasty knee jerk comments. Thank you Lovie for making me eat my words lol

  100. oldfart44 Says:

Are most people on the bandwagon now? One game is a small sample of what Glennon might, or might not do; look at Kirk Cousins. They play the Saints next week, and they are presently getting the shit kicked out of them. Can you imagine what it might be like in New Orleans next week? This is going to be a long, drawn out process as this team continues to be built according to what the coaching staff wants. Obviously, I am elated that the Bucs won, but I’m very concerned about what the hell gives with the pass coverage, if you want to call it that. People may have been down on Jackson for so many drops, but he made the catch when it was ultimately important. Did you really expect the Bucs to lay down and die based on the ass kicking they took last week. Look at the standings right now in the division. I have this feeling that many of the teams may end up at .500.

  101. Broy34 Says:

Nobody has mentioned that Mike Glennon is 1-0 against DICK F-ING LEBEAU. That man practically invented professional defense/blitzing. Our boy went in there and proved the haters wrong and made the mob look like geniuses. However stop hating on Joe. U guys were saying hey joe where u at..preeeeeety sure Joe wrote the Damn column. Ur not cool for calling out asking where he is when he created the damn comment section for us to type in on the article. Go bucs!

  102. PRBucFan Says:

Who made you a general? Lol your more like a private.

  103. Dewey Selmon Says:

Private 1St class JOE. Glennon got something McCown couldn’t get. A victory! 22td 10int in 14.5 games. At this pace he’ll have freeman franchise record for td’s by the time you make Sgt. No jumping the chain of command, you are at the back of the MGM line.

  104. PRBucFan Says:

And P.S. His stats would look a lot prettier if the Bucs receivers didn’t have the dropsies all game. Including a drops in the endzone.

  105. Incognito Says:

I gotta admit today was a good win. But now it’s time for some who Dat payback.

  106. Buc1987 Says:

MGM and Mob is just an abbreviated name for (Bucs fans that support Mike Glennon) and that’s it.

It’s really not a mob… to me anyways. It’s just easier typing the words MGM or Mob. Joe being creative way back when.

  107. John Sapp Says:

Watching this Dallas game and I am starting to think New orleans may be on the decline….They look terrible and most of Dallas starting “D” is second stringers.

  108. Buc1987 Says:

PRBucFan…and the pick with Evans having to pull up on the play.

I don’t want to see that play again.

  109. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I hate the Cowgirls almost as much as I love the Bucs….but not tonight….giving the Saints a thrashing….

Saints will be ready for us next week…..we need to be ready for them!!!

  110. Buc1987 Says:

TBBF..right now I say LET them be ready for us.

  111. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Glennon played great. However, let’s not forget we had 64 yards of total offense in the first half. While I believe that is mostly the fault of Arroyo and his questionable play calling, I would be hesitant to pound on my chest as a member of the mob. He had a great half and absolutely should never go back to the bench this season, but I want to see him put together a full game before I am fully convinced. Not hating on the kid because I like him and really don’t want to be so terrible this year where we are in position to draft a QB, but I’m just not ready to go out and buy his jersey yet. We’ve had a lot of guys over the years fool me that they can play, so I’m always a bit skeptical of any QB in a Bucs uniform.

  112. Tampabaybucfan Says:

As for Glennon….he will be just fine….give him the weapons and call some plays for him…

What I hate is 2nd and inches & we run for 2 yds for the 1st down….for God sake….that is when you let him go downfield…..not on 3rd and 24!!!

Notice some of the success we had on first down passing plays?……Hopefully, Lovie & Marcus are learning the lesson!!!

  113. Mr. Mudge Says:

On the game winning touchdown, Glennon had a guy flying in at him, but he hung in and delivered the throw. That was impressive.

  114. jerseybucsfan Says:

    Napoleon. .. not Mike dynamite

  115. billy buckaroo Says:

ONE GAME and already micro-analyzing Glennon.
Take the Win and be happy about it and hopefully it is a sign of things to come.

  116. Buc1987 Says:

tbbf…the line gave Glennon pretty decent time to throw today too. I saw life in this team for the first time in 3 games. Atlanta woke them up. So I’m buying back into Lovie again. Now Bonzai can rag on me. I don’t care. I’m a happy Bucs fan right now.

They didn’t even have to win for me to start getting behind him again. Just show some life.

  117. SOEbuc Says:

Your not MGM and certainly not a general. with his cmpltion percentage, up until the end there the cannon was putting it in peoples hands(VJax) and they were being dropped. Cant do more then put it in their hands

  120. DB55 Says:

glennon did everything they said he couldn’t do. Put the team on his back, scored points in the 4th, threw some bombs downfield, he had command, avoided sacks. Now what? Mclown couldn’t go 5 mins without throwing an interception let’s not discuss getting first downs. #Comeonman

  121. Buc1987 Says:

We still might need a new OC though…that might help matters for Glennon. That and all the drops, penalties and BS. WHATEVER!

    Despite all that Glennon persevered.

Definition for those that attended Florida Public High schools.

persevere : continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success.

  122. Broy34 Says:

I love how the mob is calling out Joe. U do realize every former player and GM that is an analyst was on the same side as Joe. He’s already said he’s rooting for Glennon now. Ya he wanted a qb. Anyone logical did as well. Sorry mob it panned out today and very well could for a long time. Glennon looked rly good. But still, can’t call out the man over and over. He said waaaay earlier Glennon impressed him

Even Coach Gruden on his show said that he was impressed that MG could stand in there and deliver the ball. I’m not sure they can make him faster, but they probably could improve his elusiveness. Watch the play where he was sacked, and notice him moving his feet side to side, rather than spinning (pirouetting) away from the pressure, and then running in the other direction. Think Fran Tarkenton. OMG, I can’t believe I just typed Tarkenton and MG8 in the same post.

I hope romo pulls it out, but we have seen this movie a few too many times. I feared for the blowout where the saints come out determined next week. A 10 point loss would be nice.

  131. DB55 Says:

I’ll take the win, I liked how mccown looked holding a clipboard I though he excelled at it. Arroyo came out in the second half and said duck it let me try and win this game, what’s the worst that could happen? It’s funny what you can accomplish when you limit mistakes. Not for nothing but 115 yards of penalties helps a lot.

  132. Buc1987 Says:

Broy34…would you like me to pull some of the stuff up that I have on Glennon that was said prior to the Bucs drafting him?

There was many that were impressed with this kid coming into the draft. Just not 1st round impressed.

  133. Soggy Says:

@Broy34, People here told me I was in the mob for wanting glennon to start over mcCown and I never called joe anything, So If I were you I would just say some mob members, and dont try to make all glennon fans to be hastling joe, I hate being told I do somthing I dont do..

Yeah, unlike your proclaimed love for all things Flacco.. This guy barely beat Glennons 40 time.

    Flacco 40 time 4.84 seconds

    Glennons low 4.85 seconds

Yeah Flacco’s a real speed demon.. whom Joe has a mancrush on.
I think Flacco and Glennon are very similar in style. As long as we just commit to Glennon now and build the offense around his strengths. in time I believe Glennon has the makeup to be as valuable to the Bucs as Joe Flacco is to the Ravens.

Dude, lighten up with your ridiculousness.–Joe

  137. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Bucs 1-3 vs Saints 1-3……coming to a TV set next week!!!!

  138. Trubucfan22 Says:

I don’t want to take away from Glendon’s game. He did good. But 50% against a weak defense isn’t great. He made some good plays but 40% of his touches weren’t so good. He needs to clean a few things up. He did well though. Imo he could still learn a few things from being on the bench. McCown is a better QB. You all witnesses the terrible play calling in the first 3 games. Not even attempting a single pass in the redzone of the Rams game was Criminal. That’s stuff you can’t fault on McCown. McCown completed nearly 80% of his passes that game, and the coaches tripped him and the team up. Sure he made an early mistake. Big deal. That 1 play didn’t cost us the game. It was a blocked fg, it was not passing in the redzone when you have a hot QB. Let’s not forget the near comeback against the panthers. If not for Raineys fumble we were in position to win that too. If you really look at the 3 close games. 1, 2, and 4. They all had similar themes. Close games, down to the final possession or 2. The first 2 games end with a fumble and then an injury timeout. The last game finally results in pay dirt. But the first 2 losses weren’t because of McCown. Who statistically played decent games.

If Glennon didn’t leave the window open for criticism then I’d have nothing to say. But a first half of 60 yards and 50% completion percent leave me hesitant to anoint him the franchise. He did good. But he isn’t good enough to be the future, yet.

  139. PRBucFan Says:

Hey genius no one I calling him on for rooting Glennon on they are calling him out cause that logic is flawed.

You don’t just get behind a guy than claim “general” status insinuating you have been one of the strongest proponents behind the guy.

  140. Cecil Bill Says:

    13-3… Here. We. Come.

  141. billy buckaroo Says:

If McCown is supposed to be out for 5 weeks or so because of his thumb,
what purpose would it serve to name Glennon starter anyway?
    Seems obvious

  142. lurker Says:

i still want us to draft a qb. we needed to last year, we need to this year.

however, glennon gives us the best chance to win, now. i never wanted mccown…at least as a qb.

  143. Buc1987 Says:

Taken from the open thread during the game. A little premature huh BoJim?

    BoJim Says:
    September 28th, 2014 at 4:18 pm

And if would have won some of you ass clowns would be saying ” hey, Glennon ain’t so bad after all.” But since we lost you can now continue.

  144. Senor Mofo Says:

Glennon can be mediocre, and still put us in position to win. I’ll take winning over a good QB stat line any day.

Let’s ride that train. Then, in a season or two, Glennon will have honed the finer points of his game, and we’ll actually be a good team.

    I’ll take that, too.

  145. Oahubuc Says:

It may not have been Glennon’s best, but it was a @#$% of a lot better than the best we’ve seen from McClown.

  146. Capt.Tim Says:

My apologies to Mike Glennon, and the Mike Glennon Mob.
He played like an NFL QB today. A good one
Better than all the other “Franchise QBs in training”. IMO.

For the second time this week, I’m going to the Canteen.
Gonna order up a big plate of Crow, and eat it
Being the second time, probably order a side of Humble pie.

Then I’m gonna go buy a Glennon Jersey tomorrow, and report to MGM basic training. See if I can be a grunt in the MGM

Man! That win was sweet. Don’t think at soul picked us to win
    Loved it.
Did anyone notice how bad Vincent Jacksons wrist was? Looked like he couldn’t bend it- trying to do one handed body catches. That’s a tough guy.

Thanks for the Win today, Mike. It’s your Game ball. And your team.
    Fire the Ginger Cannon.

  147. Legarrettes Blunt Says:

The general of the MGM when he has been hating in him all season. The man who writes a positive article after bashing Michael Johnson when he has been playing on a bum ankle. Joe I am realizing you are about as fair weather as they get.

  148. PhantomVash808 Says:

Glennon played great and deserves to be named the starter going forward however he still hasn’t proved to me that he is the QB of the future for the Bucs.

  149. Stanglassman Says:

This is the 1st time I’ve heard about a QB controversy? I thought Mike Glennon was starting because McCown was hurt. Glennon played pretty good in the second half but not so impressive that he would unseat the starter. I think this is a bunch of wishful thinking however I do think the whole team played better than the in 1st 3 games.

Pat, It not the 1st win against the Steelers it’s the 1st time the Bucs won in Pitts.. They only played their 3 times since ’76. The Bucs 1st win against the Steelers was in 1980 with a 7 year Steelers back up QB playing for the Bucs named Terry Hanratty.

  150. Aaron Says:

    I’ll take the win!

    Our prize?

    Saints in the dome.

  151. Andrew Says:

There are many Super Bowl winning QBs who were solid, but not “great” (Brad Johnson and Trent Dillfer come to mind). We need a good QB who leads his team, manages his team and has a big brass pair.

  152. ctord Says:

In my mind there is no controversy. Glennon just looked better than McCown. At this point, the bucs as a franchise need to know if they are going ahead with Glennon or are scraping the MG8 project. If Glennon proves to be “the quarterback of the future” the bucs are in great shape moving forward.

  153. Warthog Says:

I’ll take a confident Glennon who doesn’t make stupid decisions and is willing to push it downfield over McCown any day of the week. It was like a night and day comparison. If anyone still wants to go back to McCown after that win, I’m speechless. With McCown under center the Bics are always one play from disaster. Glennon actually didactic good job reading the field and taking what was there.

Most importantly he stays calm under pressure instead of making critical errors with the ball. That alone should be enough to earn him the job the rest of the year.

  154. Buccfan37 Says:

It’s comical reading some of these posts. At least a dozen fans were on the MGM from the onset of his arrival in Tampa, including myself. We are the MG fans that never wavered in our support for him. I’m also irked at all the posts since the win that claim they were the only one who picked the Bucs to beat Pittsburgh. I picked this win before any of you did, the proof being in the archives here. Too lazy to look it up, don’t make me dig it out.

  155. Robert7 Says:

    Thx 87 glad someone remembers

  156. Bill T Says:

Joe: “but Glennon’s lack of mobility was exposed today and he made several bad throws, completing 50% of his passes”

Pure nonsense. Lack of mobility when? 1 sack on a play that the end jumped the snap and beat the tackle immediately? There weren’t any other issues

Several bad throws = 50%. That’s comical. He had one “off” throw in 3 qrts and 6 drops. The 2nd to last drive he missed two passes that he’d want back.

Bottom line, he didn’t make one poor decision the whole game. No way we could say the same for McCown

  157. iamkingsu Says:

I bn a Glennon fan since “bspn’s year of the quarterback” when he was at Dilfer’s qb camp as a 18 year old kid and was the number 1 rated high school qb in the country. Then he runs Russell wilson out of Raleigh so he has the talent. I’m tired of all these analyst that sees him as his brother Sean Glennon that stunk it up at VA Tech and judging him by that. He can ball. Just let him get some experience under his belt he hasn’t even started a full season yet. RELAX

  158. Paul Says:

i didn’t see all the inaccurate throws that you say, maybe a couple, but not like you write it in your article.

  159. Quick66 Says:

Glennon stood tall in the pocket the whole game and delivered the ball on time with accuracy. He didn’t get much help from the running game either. He is ready to lead the team and Lovie knows this.

  160. PRBucFan Says:

I picked this win, because I believe in this “team” and there was no way that they were going to come out and lose after the blowout not because of Glennon.

Me being wrong about Glennon in general this season is a bonus 🙂

  161. Hawk Says:

While you are serving up the Glennon accolades (deservedly), let us not forget someone else who showed some growth. I’m referring to Marcus Arroyo . For a guy who has never been ANYTHING NFL (coaching), to being THE OC is a huge step, and taken with no advance preparation. If he continues to grow into this position, McCown and Tedford may end up fighting for the clipboard. As the game tightened up, I saw Arroyo loosen up. He might just turn out to be a ‘natural’.
Also, McCown looked like the ‘leader’ Lovie said he was. He was working with Glennon throughout the game and acted even happier than Glennon when Glennon had success.

  162. tnew Says:

I am extremely happy for the bucs and Glennon. I for one thought he should’ve been allowed and in fact earned the opportunity to play for this team. Many have stirred the pot to whip up dissent against him. Did big dog lose money on the fsu-nc state game a couple of years ago?? MAybe. Is he upset his drinking buddy errrr source to the locker room errrr josh Freeman is no longer QB?

At any case this just 1 game of his second season. He did miss a few receivers but the position, unlike any other in sports comes down to 1 aspect.

Who can make the best-fastest decisions?

That is the most important factor. The guys on the field know that taking a sack while not the best thing in the world is supremely better than trying to fling a ball up while going down. Interceptions aren’t the worst thing but stupid ones are. That team had much more faith in Glennon.

Now let’s see what happens when he plays in week 2. It can still go either way I feel that many have placed unfair expectAtions on him. And as far as the private second class jbf, your constant reference to him over and over made me think that his name had been changed to Glennontheleaderoftheworstoffense.

as much as I would love to hear Duemig blow his vocal chords out yelling at everyone that Glennon still sucks (lose money on the game Stevie?). I will be listening to booger who is objective enough to give real analysis on the fan.
