The Bucs’ Super Bowl champion weighs in

The guy with the newest Super Bowl ring in the Bucs locker room, defensive tackle Clinton McDonald, doesn’t think his teammates are playing enough smart football.

He’s committed to fixing that, and ensuring the Bucs’ attitude stays healthy in the face of two frustrating losses.

There’s no room for negativity on McDonald’s watch.

“Stick together. You know, it can turn around. It can turn around very easily. Don’t say, ‘0-2, we dig our graves. No, 0-2, keep digging for the treasure,'” McDonald told Joe on Sunday night.

“We gotta be the smartest team on the field to win these games. We understand that. We gotta go back to the drawing board and apply that on Sundays and on Thursday.”

Unlike last season, Joe has no concerns that the Bucs’ locker room could become unraveled soon. But a win, especially a road win — the next three games are on the road — sure would go a long way.

I bet he is wishing he didn’t have to play in a defense that hasn’t been relevant in the NFL in years. The Tampa 2 doesn’t work anymore and hasn’t in years.

As upset as I was Sunday. I am hoping Tedford handles all playcalling duties this week and and I will be cheering for my team. You look at the saints and colts being 0 and 2 and they are both established teams with very good qbs. Lets see how we look with Tedford. The big obvious is Lovie needs to trust his qb and the defense needs to play more man coverage against the saints or we will be 3 and 0. Time to sit back and see what Lovie does this week.

Bout time a leader stepped up on that defense.

The attitude is fine, the talent level isn’t.

    Pretty simple.

Pure fact. Motivated talent can usually beat motivated lesser talent.

    Really good signing.

  6. JC De La Torre Says:

Lovie says anyone who thinks Cover 2 isn’t relevant anymore is ignorant. It’s been around since the 60’s, the Seahawks use Cover 2 and Cover 3 extensively, and oh by the way, the Bucs didn’t play much Cover 2 last week because of the injuries. They went mostly man and blitzed more.

  7. Tom Edrington Says:

The Cover 2 is only relevant, as Derrick Brooks has explained often, “when you have the ingredients…”

Not sure the Bucs have the ingredients right now with the overall talent level, especially when they lose their first-line players, what is behind that will not allow them to compete against really good offenses.

Just call the Bucs D the swiss cheese D, with more holes than cheese.

He played in a Pete Carroll version of the exact same defense in Seattle, you dope!

    I really like this guy.

Tom Brady said this week that for the Patriots, winning is a culture.

That’s what I would like to see in Tampa.

Right now, trying not to lose seems to be the culture.

Not many people noticed but he had a great game Sunday, WHne McCoy went out he seemed to be in every tackle especailly run plays. Glad he said what he did.
