“Just Put It In Two Days Ago”

His first game out from the shadow of Jeff Tedford, Marcus Arroyo opened up the offense.

Offensive coordinators aren’t celebrated very often, not in Tampa anyway.

But Joe’s got to give it up to Game 1 (officially) of the Marcus Arroyo era, the first out from the shadow of Jeff Tedford. The man called a heck of a game today, showed some balls and opened up the offense. And winning quarterback Mike Glennon revealed that a late play installation led to the victory.

Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network after the game, Glennon explained that the huge completion to Louis Murphy for 41 yards with 35 seconds remaining in today’s thrilling 24-20 victory was a play the team added at the last minute.

“We just put it in two days ago,” Glennon said.

Glennon called the route “a deep dig” to Murphy, a play the Bucs were keeping in their pocket for the right moment. Glennon put it on the money. “I mean, you gotta give [Murphy] a ton of credit. He wasn’t even with us five days ago.”

Lovie Smith said in his postgame radio interview that Arroyo “and the offensive staff” made a great call.

Again, Joe’s happy for Arroyo and Joe liked a lot what was attempted. It was nice to the “Dunkaneers,” although Glennon has to throw a lot of balls higher.

Heck, the Benn’d Around, featuring Solomon Patton even worked.

Ha ha the been’d around In shock still

  2. pablo Says:

The guy called a HB draw on 3rd & 14 ” besides that he was okay.. its funny how we weren’t ultra conservative today I think Jeff Tedford not being in the booth with his headset on had something to do with it

  3. ToesOnTheLine Says:

Not sure it was Glennon knowing he was starting or Arroyo knowing he was now the OC, but the offense in general looked more in sync today. Definitely a work in progress still and far from clicking, but far better than week’s 1-3. I’m giddy (and probably a bit buzzed)…thanks Bucs

  4. StPeteBucsFan Says:

It’ll be interesting to see what the Glennon haters have to say. LMAO. I confess I wasn’t a part of the MGM but I had and keep an open mind.

He has enough arm and is one of the very brightest QB’s in the League. Brains are actually an asset for a “Field General”.

  5. clafollett Says:

Murphy manned up. I think he got a karma pay back on that missed touchdown for celebrating the previous catch. I liked Cannon spreading the ball around. Still a bit sloppy but we kept the turnovers under control. Nice win. Showed heart.

  6. Eric Says:

    Thank you God.

  7. BucsfaninChina Says:

The Benn’d around! What a great game today, just what this franchise and fan base needed.

  8. buc4lyfe Says:

Good game Glennon way to put it on your shoulders, first 4th victory your responsible for since you got here, props to Glennon to hell with the mgm. Can’t say anything about you until next Sunday, won’t hear any baking from me unless you idiots start making outlandish comments like pro bowl talk

  10. Lynch Says:

Was it me or did Mccown look really happy today? I think I like him better as a QB coach

  11. Robert7 Says:

Glad they finally aired it out. No throw away that damn draw play!

  12. Wilder 32 Says:

Glennon looks like the 2nd coming of Brad Johnson to me, and that ain’t a bad thing at all!

  13. BucFan40 Says:

Seemed like the headset caused some issues early. Mike just makes lightning quick decisions which is awesome for someone in their second year. He has mistakes to fix but this was infinitely more fun to watch than the McCown games.

  14. Jeagan1999 Says:

The offense had life and energy that were sorely missing in the first three games. I’d love to see the BUCS come out throwing next week. The play calling was still a bit conservative in the first half, but they gained confidence and picked it up big time in the second! Congrats all around!

  15. INDYbucsfan Says:

I don’t know what to do now. I’m usually so upset after bucs games I just smoke and get on this site. Hmmm maybe I’ll go do something productive for a change?
Forreal though, I’m seriously in shock and so happy

  16. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Hey btw….Go St. Pete and Louis Murphy. Folks at Lakewood High must be celebrating tonight!!!!!!

  17. rdbucfan Says:

    Buc4lyfe,

That was Glennon’s 3rd game winning drive in the 4th quarter or overtime, according to Fox.

  18. RastaMon Says:

    Let it rip..Marcus…it is only a game….

  19. d-money Says:

His play calling in the red zone up until the last TD wasn’t good at all. 4 shots into the end zone when all you need is a first down is pretty stupid. Luckily the D bailed him out, if they hadn’t this would have been a completely different post.

Having said that I did like the way he opened things up. And with Murphy , Mike Evans, ASJ, Patton all stepping up at times it shows what the potential this offense can have if they just start to eliminate the dumb mistakes.

Also, VJax’s wrist was obviously more of a factor than he let on but nice to see him come up bug when the game was on the line.

  20. The don Says:

Yeah , mccown QB coach. Works for me.

  21. RastaMon Says:

This one is for Mankins…geesh…Halloween came early for you…

  22. Trubucfan22 Says:

If only the bucs would have thrown the ball in the first 2 games… We might have been 3-1… Glad we finally made the necessary play calling moves to win a game and not lose it.

  23. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Me thinks Mike Tomlin let Lovie win one today.

  24. SC-Marlow Says:

Impressed with pass protection and the poise of Glennon.

  25. Trubucfan22 Says:

Rdbucfan, if you watched last season you’d know that isn’t true.

  26. WINdycitybuc Says:

The “nerf” zone that is being played, along with the void in the seam that was exploited today, are going to be problematic next week. Don’t get me wrong, I am flying high right now, just a little concerned about next week…

  27. billy buckaroo Says:

How great was that look on Rothleisburgers face
    PRICELESS

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Arroyo did NOT do a good job. He was still calling plays in with 7 seconds left on the playclock. He called runs on 3rd and long, though I think Glennon changed to runs a couple times.

I’m willing to say he deserves leeway because it was his first time developing the gameplan. That new play was his baby, so props.

Defensive line looked good in the first half, showed up at the end. Good to see Johnson with sacks. And I was wrong about McCoy. I forgot Sapp played with a broken hand once.

  29. lurker Says:

“His play calling in the red zone up until the last TD wasn’t good at all.”

the calls were fine, the throws were poor!

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Steelers penalties helped us a lot too.

  31. BackHomeBuc Says:

All I can say about Arroyo is he can only improve but I was not a fan of his play calling. I don’t know why we took shots to the end zone on every down when we could have shot for a first down on thw 4-5yr mark to extend the drive to go 1st and goal. This game could of went either way but I do have to say that if the Bucs can continue on this success and limit the mistakes especially on offense them this team will look pretty good.

  32. lurker Says:

120+ penalty yards, most for first downs.

  33. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Josh McCown also looked really good today, on the sidelines, where he belongs.
We had 5 sacks today, count them!
I hope Mike Evans is not seriously injured, he is a beast to cover, and so is ASJ.
Jackson came through for us, when it counted, and so did Mike Glennon.

  34. james west Says:

yea if glennon would have been starting game one, we would probably be 3-1 or worst 2-2. if lovie goes back to MCcown then we as fans should boycott a home game and demand lovie to be baker acted!!!!!!!!! go bucs

Rdbucfan, if you watched last season you’d know that isn’t true.

I guess I was the one watching last year and not you.

According to Pro Football Reference. He had game winning drives in the Miami and Detroit games last year.

  36. BuccoDav Says:

    WE WON!

Was it the prettiest win ever? No.
Other than the first series, The defense was suspect but good enough.
The offense was much improved over what we have been watching. Glennon wasn’t perfec but neither were the receivers. When the team is struggling, you need your receivers to make catches that hit their hands. May b e some that don’t.
Glennon did a good job and I hope the team can build off this.

  37. rayjay1122 Says:

David and Goliath type performance today.

  38. Panhandle Buc Says:

Pablo is correct. He called that draw at least 3 times on 3rd and a mile.

  39. Greg Smithwick Says:

I am just not willing to call this a ‘redemption game’ for VJAX. He still coughed up several catchable balls, today. We are paying him NOT to do that.

Realizing the Steelers did not have a great game, it was a nice win, but it ain’t a pattern, yet.

  40. Tnew Says:

I’ve never understood the animosity towards Glennon. I get the sheep on this site that just go baaaaaaaaa Joe says Glennon can’t play baaaaaaaaaaaa 19-9 don’t mean anything baaaaaaa baaaa. Solely responsible for everything on offense baaaaaaaa Landry says he sucks baaaaaa we must draft manziel baaaaaaa. Sheeps. Follow

Facts are. He’s not Dan Marino or John elway. But he could be a brad Johnson or maybe even if everything breaks well drew Bledsoe or dare to dream jim kelly.

If that was the case and you could keep your qb signed for a mid level contract. Then you can surround him with a team to compete for 10 years.

  41. lurker Says:

“But he could be a brad Johnson or maybe even if everything breaks well drew Bledsoe or dare to dream jim kelly. ”

bullspit! ow teddy bridewater is playing that well.

  42. Pruritus Ani Says:

Not a huge Glennon fan. At the beginning of the year, I felt there should be an open competition for quarterback as I thought McCown had never proven himself in the league. It was obvious at least in the preseason and the first few games that McCown wasn’t the answer. In fairness, Glennon may not be the long term answer either but he did a great job today when it counted. That’s all that really matters.

  43. Yar Says:

I think they turned off Lovie’s mic in the second half when the O was on the field. Keep it up.

  44. Chef Paul Says:

I give it up to Arroyo too. He had few hiccups here and there, but he did miles better than I even dreamed he would do. And he’s still a young pup, and he can still grow and learn a lot yet.

  45. "that guy" Says:

“His play calling in the red zone up until the last TD wasn’t good at all.”

the calls were fine, the throws were poor!
    —————————————————

    your a moron.

  46. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Winning ugly today sure beats losing ugly to Carolina and the Lambs or simply getting the living crap kicked out of you as in the Falcons game… Game ball to the special teams for not doing anything exceptionally bad today (sometimes just not having any broken assignments is good, it would have gave the Bucs a W over the Lambs) and Murray nailing a 50 yarder at Heinz field, not exactly like kicking one in the Superdome… Methinks Arroyo caught the Steelers D with their pants down as they were expecting a lot of vanilla and the Bucs actually spiced thinks up a bit and added a couple of unexpected wrinkles including the winning score. Nice win, unexpected for sure, now all the people looking to pile on a 0-forever team can go bang on the Raider and Jaguar boards… Its actually nice being a Bucs fan today, have not been able to say that since the Bills game last year…

  47. lurker Says:

    sorry you’re wrong, “that guy”

this says all we need to know and is classic:
    “your a moron.”

you should follow some sage (not the herb) advice and keep your mouth shut and not prove us right

  48. Pickgrin Says:

The 3rd and long draw play that Pablo (who is almost never right Panhandle) and others are complaining about was obviously an audible by Glennon.
