“Have Some Pride And Dignity”
September 22nd, 2014Yes, Joe is now a general in the Mike Glennon Mob. There’s absolutely no more use for Josh McCown as a Tampa Bay starter on these pages. If you missed Joe’s detailed explanation yesterday, you can read it here.
Another high-ranking leader of the Mob is Glennon’s brother, Sean Glennon, the former Virginia Tech starting quarterback.
The elder Glennon was rather mean to Joe on Twitter yesterday, but that’s another story. He seemed to have an issue with Joe turning the page to Glennon.
Anyway, the elder Glennon also seemed to have serious issues with the Bucs’ performance against the Falcons. His Twittering during the second half was filled with disgust.
Have some pride and dignity. Finish the damn game with some hustle and class. Absolutely embarassing
— Sean Glennon (@SeanGlennon7) September 19, 2014
In the Bucs’ postgame locker room, “embarrassment” was a popular word. Joe heard it from Jonathan Casillas, Alterraun Verner and McCown, to name a few.
The “pride and dignity” Sean Glennon was upset about is another story. That’s about effort. Did the Bucs give a half-assed effort?
Joe sure hopes they did, because the alternative would be worse. To think that showing was the Bucs’ best is enough to make Joe ill.
Lovie Smith referenced a subpar “effort” in his news conference last Monday. What Lovie referred to specifically is unclear, but the lineup and roster changes this week should tell part of the story.
September 22nd, 2014 at 8:34 am
Did Lovie say if the “sub-par” effort was from the coaches or the players?
As Joe wrote, who he was referring to was unclear.–Joe

I’m getting the vibe that this team just ain’t buying what Lovie is selling. They all know his defense is a crap scheme that was exposed a decade ago. Zone coverages don’t work in modern football because the QBs know what to look for and and the WRs know where all the soft spots are, all the QB needs is enough time to get the ball to the receiver, and if you don’t have the guys to rush the passer, you wind up with , well….the Tampa Bay Buccaneers….
September 22nd, 2014 at 8:40 am
Welcome to the Mob Joe. Can’t possibly get any worse. At least we’ll get to see what he’s got. He can’t save the team by himself. Here’s hoping the rest of the offense steps up and that Tedford’s back. The defense could do a little steppin up too. They will always be my team.
September 22nd, 2014 at 8:43 am
Sean Glennon is all about pride and dignity when it comes to football. He displays it all year long from his couch on Sundays, just like the rest of us.
September 22nd, 2014 at 8:44 am
And if you need proof, go find the video of Chancellor talking at the end of the Seahawks game, when asked who blew the coverage on the last Denver TD, he said “No one we were in zone and they knew the soft spot”
What makes the Seattle defense so effective is the ability of ALL their corners and safeties to play both Man/Press or Zone, but they also have the horses upfront to pressure the QB.
September 22nd, 2014 at 8:49 am
He’s right.
September 22nd, 2014 at 8:51 am
The Free Yardage Zone Defense has been exposed since the first preseason game…I can still see the smile on Atlantas HC Mike Smith….early game when he realized the Bucs defense was playing the same coverage they’d watched on film preparing for the game….it’s Lovie team…
September 22nd, 2014 at 8:54 am
Sean looks like my insurance agent….. Oh wait…. He is an insurance agent… LMFAO…. Discount Double Check!!!!!!
September 22nd, 2014 at 8:57 am
You gotta get a lick in on the receiver at the line to mess up the time… None of this 10-15 yd cushion shit… Like come on throw a hitch screen or curl all day
September 22nd, 2014 at 8:58 am
a general. I MIGHT let you polish my boots. me and few others MGM founders saw this before the season started last year…and again before the season started this year. not because MG is the savior, but I saw the quit in fro, and no upside or history of success with mcclown.
it was a no brainer 2 years ago joe.
September 22nd, 2014 at 9:02 am
Dude is sticking up for his brother….Who wouldn’t?
September 22nd, 2014 at 9:05 am
Virginia Tech starting QB probably knows a little bit about football and how it should be played.

I’m a member of the QBTBD mob:
Quarterback To Be Drafted …….
Who’s with me?
Can I get an “AMEN”?
September 22nd, 2014 at 9:13 am
I joked about it yesterday, but the more you say General the more absurd it gets. You are nothing more than late night security at the 19-9 bumper sticker factory. So, get over yourself, get your flashlight, and go make your rounds.
Calling yourself a General is an insult to Glennon, his brother, and everyone else that has been in Glennon’s corner all summer.

Flmike,
I know you’re a loyal Buc fan and my post is not to knock your opinion, but there are some facts that others may want to consider. Cover 2 is not dead in the NFL. Lots of teams still successfully play a version of the Cover 2. Nobody, including the Bucs play the pure Cover 2 that you may be referring to.
Two of the most successful defenses in the NFL play a version of the Cover 2. Carolina plays the exact same defense as the Bucs (Ron Rivera, Lovie Smith disciple)and Seattle plays Cover 3 which uses Cover 2 as the base defense.
Cover 2 in its modified form is not the culprit. No defense works if you don’t have the skill set or the players don’t know how to employ it. I suspect the Bucs are guilty on both fronts. Lovie needs a FS like Earl Thomas and a SS like Kam Chancellor who can come down into the box and play as an extra LB (Barron is an epic fail). Lovie does not have a MLB who can play deep and cover, ie, Cover 2. Fix the players, fix the defense!
Those who want more info, read for yourself.

The MMM seems like a good idea to me, of course knowing the Bucs luck we will find out that Mariota is more like Jamarcus Russell, Ryan Leif, Tim Couch, Testaverde, Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez or Akili Smith than Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers. Just because the Bucs spend what will probably be a top5 pick on a QB is no guarantee they get a franchise QB as the above mentioned bust have proven time and time again. However, the Bucs have never had a real franchise QB, might as well take a chance on Mariota if they can….
September 22nd, 2014 at 9:26 am
“Did the Bucs give a half-assed effort?
Joe sure hopes they did, because the alternative would be worse.”
That makes no sense at all. I would rather them be a bad team than be willing to lose because they are mentally weak.
September 22nd, 2014 at 9:33 am
Who cares why they lost? Either way they’re losers.
September 22nd, 2014 at 9:35 am
The Cover 2 is not outdated. At all.
As with any defense, it requires each player does his job well. Just like a 3-4 or whatever.
If a Cover 2 is done right, it is very effective.
The problem is that you need CBs and a safety with very good instincts. Obviously, Goldson doesn’t have them. Mark Baron is good enough. If you don’t believe me, consider the players who played opposite John Lynch. None of them were top-notch.
Banks is developing. He’ll hopefully be fine, but keep in mind it took Ronde until his 4th or 5th year to become useful. CBs take time to develop.
Verner has been a disappointment.
September 22nd, 2014 at 9:44 am
We promoted you to Lt. Colonel of the Mike Glennon Mob aka the Mike Glennon Army!
September 22nd, 2014 at 10:09 am
BRING BACK JOSH FREEMAN, DAMMIT!!
Just kidding.
September 22nd, 2014 at 10:42 am
Good for his brother.
Mike and his bro have winning attitudes.
Mike Glennon and his bro are proud people.
Glennon has guts and is not a quitter.
Go Glennon!
September 22nd, 2014 at 10:43 am
Amen
I’ll join the MMM gang. That guy has some skills.
Gotta laugh at the “g for Glennon” boy s !
He hasn’tBackup. McCown is hurt- the backup boy runs in!
And when McCown is better- back to the bench .
If any of you boys have any memories – Glennon was horrible this pre-Season
September 22nd, 2014 at 10:45 am
You can be the general of the MGM Joe, better late than never. Hell, you can even be the potentate. The more power the merrier.
September 22nd, 2014 at 10:53 am
I swear- you’d think Glennon won something- or beat somebody out for a job!!
Had all Preseason.
All Glennon accomplished, was nearly losing his backup job
We had 13 games from Glennon. He showed nothing. Last place offense.
It’s all about the draft, now- unless McCown recovers quickly- and gets it together.
September 22nd, 2014 at 10:58 am
Hey Sean Glennon are you angry because no on knows who you are? One year in the nfl as an undrafted free agent lol you’re a quitter yourself or didn’t work hard enough to become relevant or you just sucked to bad to get a chance to throw an nfl pass
September 22nd, 2014 at 11:00 am
I don’t want to watch them again this season because it’s all bad and will end miserably bad.
September 22nd, 2014 at 11:09 am
Same buc fans crying about zone are same ones who wanted revis out. Never satisfied fans. Schiano D was better , I don’t recall going 3 games and not one pass defense by a CB or safety. That’s what revis brings you for 16mill. What have we gotten from players that replaced his contract NOTHING !!! And we still millions under cap.
September 22nd, 2014 at 11:33 am
I am not one of those saying the Cover 2 is outdated….but it is not working as implemented by the BUCs….that said I’d agrue strongly that ..if the Buc played man for man they’d be giving up less yardage and points…the problem with this team is much deeper than a style of defense or offense….LOVIE…
September 22nd, 2014 at 11:48 am
Mariota sucks. There are absolutely no starting caliber QB’s being talked about as first round picks as of right now for next year’s draft. There are no Andrew Luck type QB’s. None. Not even close.

wow, i cant say he deserved that. if anything i agree with him. and at least mike did finish with some class. he still came out and played even though his coaching staff did him wrong. a fighter is a fighter. glennon is the best QB that has graced the Tampa roster since chris sims.
September 22nd, 2014 at 12:13 pm
with the exeption of luke mccown. who currently belongs to the saints.(and played extremely well in the preseason)
September 22nd, 2014 at 2:01 pm
Last year the Bucs secondary played a lot of defensive schemes in the secondary and they usually looked confused and bewildered. This year they are playing one primary scheme and they still look bewildered and confused.
The Bucs have played one on one coverage this year when they blitzed and they still got beat.
Smart QB’s love 1 on 1 because they know they only have to beat one player.
Face it all you Einstein’s, if a team doesn’t have a pass rush and the QB has all day to scan the field, any NFL level QB is going to pick that team a part. You see it every week in the NFL.
Al Michaels said it best last night during the Panthers game when he noted Carolina spent all their money and picks on the front line and worried about the back end later on.
Around here, especially last year, we wanted to build from the back to the front.
Fortunately, I think Lovie believes in the front to back philosophy.
Who all wants the No. 1 they spent on Barron back to spend on a quality DE. Then again, judging from our past history, the Bucs would probably chose another Bowers, Price, Gibson, Kyle Moore, etc. etc. etc.
September 22nd, 2014 at 2:21 pm
I can think of a few labels you can use to describe yourself. But “General” of the mob is not one you deserve. As a matter of fact, you ought to be downright embarrassed to write that as a so called expert on the Bucs. You have made it clear from last year that you did not see anything in Glennon. Why would you change your tune now. Anybody with a brain could see the kid can play. Is he the second coming??? Maybe not. But he is damn sure better than McCown.
I could remember articles from you telling us how the Bucs lost to the Eagles and a nobody named Nick Foles. Don’t look now, but Foles is a pretty damn good QB. And I think he and Glennon are very similar in talent. Just needs coaching and a chance to show what he has got. So please quit flattering yourself, it is pretty silly.
September 22nd, 2014 at 2:40 pm
Joe…what does he have to do to get the 28 changed to 8? All pro?
September 22nd, 2014 at 2:59 pm
Joe, you come across as we are common folk and you are royalty. We aren’t knowledgeable about football because we aren’t dictators of our own web site. I could of taken it with a grain of salt if you would of picked the Navy and selected yourself as an Admiral. But you had to come up with Private Joe instead. Private Joey Football. You can’t be an General or Major. those are officers, and officers are leaders, who own up and admit their mistakes.
September 22nd, 2014 at 3:34 pm
Start buying people houses would be a start.
September 22nd, 2014 at 3:53 pm
Its no coincidence that this team hasnt been the same since the glazers bought manu….they scrubbed a team that included a hall of famer who could have transitioned a new regime while taking this community for granted…some of the best coaches and prospects all stiff armed the glazers because they sniffed out their wimpy vibe knowing that you cant win under this….
you might want to find a hobby for your rare day off because this team will never be at the forefront of anything under this ownership…boooorrrriiinnnggg forever
September 22nd, 2014 at 4:28 pm
The scheme isn’t the problem. It the lack of execution from the players. And lack of talented backup. Zone does work. All teams run a zone. The success is based on the pressure on the Qb. If the Qb has all day to throw then the defense is most likely toast. It don’t help that the safety are too slow to play their half of cover 2. Plus the lack of bump isn’t helping either.
