Don’t Dawdle
September 13th, 2014For three quarters last week, the Bucs offense was pretty much non-existent. That is, if you don’t count the mind-numbing turnovers by Josh McCown. Yet, the Bucs rallied in the fourth quarter and nearly pulled off a victory.
Had the Bucs had any kind of an offense in the first three quarters, or McCown took care of the football, the Bucs would not have needed a three-score rally late to tie or win.
Former Bucs tight end and current ESPN college football analyst Anthony Becht believes if the Bucs can jump out to an early lead against the Rams tomorrow, it would do wonders for the team. Becht details his five keys to victory on Buccaneers.com.
FAST START: For the Bucs to have success, especially at home, they need to start fast. Last week against the Panthers, the offense sparked late in the second half of the game. This week the Bucs need to find an identity as an offensive unit. It starts at the line of scrimmage. Our blocking in the run game and our pass protection needs to take the next step regardless of which player is in there. There’s no skill involved in being aggressive and physical at the point of attack. It’s an ATTITUDE.
Getting up in the game early is so much better than playing behind. With the Bucs down three scores, it put so much pressure on the defense — pressure that doesn’t exist when a team is leading by two scores.
It would sure help if Doug Martin got loose, Vincent Jackson cut his dropsies, and McCown stopped idiot throws that make high school quarterbacks wince in pain.

I think McCown is going to redeem himself in this game. That’s if he has it in him.

do you know what makes me excited about tomorrow??? end this week of “mccown, interceptions, dead for 3 quarters,etc..”
THATS what im looking forward on sunday,
besides a W!
Go Bucs!
September 13th, 2014 at 3:09 pm
McClown jus needs to pull the dam trigger!
September 13th, 2014 at 3:26 pm
I think Josh (is that short for Joshua) will play better. I’m serious.
September 13th, 2014 at 3:31 pm
Bowers will get a sack fumble and put the team in great position to score. Gholston will get 2 batted passes and a sack. Mccoy will get his usual pressure and sack…… Win for the Bucs!!!! # I didn’t lie to Goodell
September 13th, 2014 at 3:43 pm
I want to believe it but I must see it first.
September 13th, 2014 at 3:46 pm
An early defensive turnover would fire things up
September 13th, 2014 at 3:58 pm
It seems that every year the falcons, saints,n panthers place a lot of emphasis on an up tempo first down n score type offense while we talk about it each year n tend to b content wit three n out or three n not…seven that is. During the off season the saints n falcons aggressively go after play makers on offense via free agent n college. When will we start off wit the no huddle offense n try to score each down? The only difference between josh mcCown n josh freeman is last name they both freak out n just the the ball up for grabs. We do the same thing every year wait till eight minutes left n game n try to come from behind n score or play conservative defense when leading.

Completely agree with Becht. We score a touchdown on them early and that will set the tone for the rest of the game. Let’s get it done.

I have gotten so sick of hearing about starting fast. Its time to stop saying it and just do it.
Bucs win 27-13

I respectfully disagree about Vincent Jackson. The first pass to him was on a slant, clearly thrown behind him. The second pass also a quick slant that hit him below the right knee. Both of these were bad throws and not on VJAX in my opinion. Later in the game with VJax running free down the east sideline toward the pirate ship, McCown finally throws, but several yards wide of the field, and hits a kneeling photographer on the fly. Not sure about any other “drops” though.

Lol Exactly.

Groundhog season is more like it –
September 13th, 2014 at 5:15 pm
tickrdr,
Right on about VJax. Those weren’t good throws, and had Glennon thrown those, Joe would be making sure you knew it!

It’s like wanting to believe in Santa Clause: You feel great when you think about all the great things you’d like to have happen, but then you remember it’s hard to believe in something nobody has ever seen.
The Lovie Smith Bucs, although I wish our hopes could come true – they haven’t done a single thing yet for a fan to feel confident about. If you’re thinking we’re going to win, you’re an optimist. If you’re thinking we’re going to lose – well then you’re just going on what you’ve seen so far.
I’d like to have my pessimism curb stomped by witnessing the Bucs come out and play some great football. But I’ve been following football for a long time. Teams that have it in them tend to show some capability of dominating in each game (win or lose). This team did absolutely NOTHING last week. We’ll see how it goes.

A bit off topic, but not really. I looked up the Buccaneers fight song, all that came up was “Hey Hey Tampa Bay”, you know “the Bucs know how to shine” bit. That one stunk, what happened to the one that included the lines “Hey Hey Hey we’re the Buccaneers, Ho Ho Ho we’re Buccaneers, Offense Defense, now we’re here to say, make the Rams walk the plank, throw em in Tampa Bay, Hey”. That was the best one. They should bring it back.
September 13th, 2014 at 5:42 pm
Buccfan37 – totally agree. The “Hey Hey Tampa Bay” song feels like a reject 70’s disco song. The ‘Ho Ho Ho we’re the Buccaneers” had a total pirate feel to it.
September 13th, 2014 at 5:51 pm
I believe McCown will play well.
I believe Bowers will get a sack, or 2!
I believe we will get a win.
I know McCoy will be dominant!
If it helps, I’ll believe in Santa Claus!
Think tomorrow at the Stadium will be a totally different experience!
I’ll keep believing, because
Ho Ho Ho I’m a buccaneer fan
It’s a pirates life for me!
Lovie! Licht!

alot of good having afternoon training camp practices did for this team.
September 13th, 2014 at 6:12 pm
I think what scares me the most, is that this defense didn’t look as good as it has the past 2 years under schiano. Even lavonte david looked out of place and not as attacking as he’s been in the past. That my folks is very troublesome. Maybe its just me but this defense looked alot more passive. Now I remember why nobody in the nfl runs Tampa 2
September 13th, 2014 at 6:15 pm
I feel good about tomorrow. Impose your will.
September 13th, 2014 at 6:21 pm
I cant tell you how many times I was up scream8ng at my tv 4 second after the snap …THROW THE DAMN BALL JOSH!!!!! IT is just inexcusable to hold onto the ball that long when there are two monsters with the same jersey running down the sidelines
September 13th, 2014 at 6:33 pm
I think it has been changed =
Hey, hey, we’re the monkees
And people say we monkey around,
But we’re too busy singing
To put anybody down..
Just a joke, lighten up
September 13th, 2014 at 6:39 pm
I think we will get more of the S O S that we pretty much have not only grown accustomed to but actually relish in. mc clown is a has been never was and will probably throw at least 2 picks. the rams backup QB will have a pretty damn good game and will expose if not shred our secondary. our defensive line will be offensive to watch and our running game will run out of gas with the dumpster hamster doogie martins stellar 1 yard per rush attempt average. all the while stone face smith will be giving his greatest impersonation of cool hand luke at his post game news conference- ” what we got hear is failure to communicate” oh the humanity!! oh well what the heck as we say in the bay area, there’s always next year. I hear that boy from Baylor has been lighting em up the last couple years maybe we will get the first pick and nab him, probably not!!!!!!
September 13th, 2014 at 6:49 pm
Mccown if ur listening this is what you do…. 3 step drop and throw… if no1 is open throw incomplete… this message has been brought to you by highschool football 101
September 13th, 2014 at 7:10 pm
In “WarGames” Joshua was the computer that almost blew up the world.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:45 pm
Soggy… I think you’re a daydream believer.
September 13th, 2014 at 9:17 pm
Let’s just be honest.
McCown is not the answer. Actually he really sucks.
His brother was better. (saints game 2007 in New Orleans)
Luke was 23 of 27 for 278 yards?
Any one remember?
Truthfully we all know Glennon is better, much better!
Figure out to give Him some protection and let him throw the Damn Ball!!
September 13th, 2014 at 9:30 pm
I heard Jeff Fischer had a hand in wiritng this…..I hope not.

@throwingsamoan If we are 1 – 5 or 0 – 6 by the bye week I say give Glennon the ball. Maybe the O-line will hopefully gel by then and protect the kid and at least give him a chance to see what we truly have.
September 13th, 2014 at 10:56 pm
Mccown will do great. The rams front 7 aren’t an easy group to conquer, but hopefully it won’t have to be all on McCown. This run game needs to come to life. Love ball is all about the running on early downs. And we get stuck in 3rd and long all game, like last week, then we can’t expect good results. Doug needs to find holes and at least get positive gains. Hopefully Tedford will be available and throw in a few wrinkles as he’s calling plays. I still think McCown is our best option at QB.

Anthony Becht details his five keys to victory on Buccaneers.com.
…………………………………………………………………………………
Is this the same Anthony Becht that was a Buccanneer what 2 tears and bounced around other teams for about 10 more years. Whatever it was he proved hes not a football annalist after backing Freeman so strongly. Sorry Joe, I didnt mean to wound you with that shot at Becht.
September 14th, 2014 at 5:58 am
I’ll be there doing my part.
