Bucs Win Would Shock, And Change Everything

September 26th, 2014

lovie smith 0112Joe saw at least 200 people lined up to get inside the new, giant Whole Foods Clearwater store yesterday. And the store already was full with shoppers. (Why so much excitement for organic lettuce, 37 varieties of hummus and stinky European cheeses?)

More people were probably there shopping than the number of folks who believe the Bucs can win Sunday, per Gerald McCoy.

Speaking on his Buccaneers Radio Network show Wednesday night, McCoy shared that he knows the NFL world has no faith in the Bucs.

“Let’s just be honest, nobody’s giving us a chance to win this game,” McCoy said. “And I love that.”

McCoy is right. Only those employed by the Buccaneers and hardcore Bucs optimists believe Tampa Bay can emerge victorious Sunday.

But what if they do?

That’s what’s got Joe excited. A Bucs upset Sunday would totally shock the NFL and restore faith in the Lovie Smith regime, and disperse the cloud of doom that extends from Fort Myers Beach to Spring Hill.

Yes, in the rollercoaster world of Bucs fandom, just one win, immediately, would change the landscape.

A loss in Pittsburgh? Well, the outrage and agony will continue.

Remember a couple weeks back, McCoy said the Bucs were going to be the hardest working 0-1 team after opening week. Gerald’s been doing a lot more talking than making plays this year.

  2. AnotherJ Says:

One win would be a step in the right direction, but It won’t fix what’s broken with this team.

  3. meh Says:

    Show me, don’t tell me.

  4. andres Says:

I can’t stand this guy. Can’t wait to watch him disappear on 3rd downs this week as per usual. SIGH.

  5. Harry Says:

“Let’s just be honest, nobody’s giving us a chance to win this game,” McCoy said. “And I love that.”

Glad you love that, Gerald. That is, unfortunately, going to last another 13 games, and then into the off season. The good news is we will have a very high pick, maybe #1. The bad news? Lovie will be making the pick. It truly saddens me to write that.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We need others to step up on our Dline……GMC is doing his part and is one of the very few that has a right to talk…..the others should shut up an listen….

  7. RastaMon Says:

Is it just me ? Or does the photo of Lovie in the header of this stoy remind you of the phony interpreter at the Nelson Mandela Memorial……I’d post a youtubevideo… but ….

  8. Harry Says:

Eli Manning last night threw 3 TD passes (out of 4) that were jump balls. What happened to the Dunkaneers? Wasn’t that our plan?

  9. robert9 Says:

no one expects you to win any games this year GMC

  10. gatrbuc17 Says:

All I know is that I started Big Ben, LeGarotte Blount, and Pitt’s D in my fantasy league.

  11. SAMCRO Says:

What is Gerald supposed to say? We suck, we’ll be lucky to ever win a game. That would definitely get him run out of town quickly if that was his true motive. Clearly, if I was a marquee player, and I wanted out of Tampa, that would be my modus operandi. It’s amazing how many guys, while here, play average, but when they move on from here have better careers. That’s what a history of losing does to a franchise. It’s an automatic mindset and a secret rule of thumb amongst NFL players. Unless Tampa is willing to throw money at you stay clear from Tampa. Unless you are lesser talent or a newbie trying to latch on stay away from Tampa.

Are we sure Lovie didn’t go after Hester, or did Hester say thanks but no thanks. Or why Jairus Byrd went to the Saints when his dad coaches our CB’s?
It seems whatever free-agent did sign was gifted in cash. Except maybe Verner, but given the chance to do it all over again he might not have signed with the Bucs. He went on record saying he was enamored by Lovie Smith.

  12. Joseph Mamma Says:

One thing I’ve noticed with McCoy is he is probably our leader on defense (whole franchise actually) but he is probably not that great of a leader. Has he ever made those around him better? You’d have to say most of the time he’s been here, no. The injuries have been a part of that too though.

  13. BucsfaninChina Says:

Ughhhhh the positivity just makes me wanna puke!!!!

  14. ToesOnTheLine Says:

    @gatrbuc

Good call on Blount and Benn, but the Cannon will be making Bucs WR’s relevant again…you’ve been warned on starting the Steelers D/ST this week 🙂

  15. The Buc Realist Says:

Did the Bucs Victory at Miami change anything last year??? did it change when they walloped the Falcons the very next game 41-28???

wins and losses will not change opinions this year. It will all depend on if the Bucs can get good and solid play at some facet at the game! they need something to say we are this kind of team. I hope that all the players will rally around the “real” QB! Now that they know the best QB is in they will focus on their jobs, which will lead to better play, which will eventually lead to wins down the road!!

    Go Bucs! and Go Beer!!!

  16. Brian Says:

It has to be this week though…once you’re at 0-4…there is nothing to get excited about.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @BucsfaninChina

If you’re gonna’ puke….I’m glad you’re in China!!!

  18. Buddhaboy Says:

empty words from Mccoy, Empty suits in charge

  19. BUCTROOPER Says:

There isn’t a team on the schedule that doesn’t have the Buccaneers marked as a W

  20. TK Says:

What about Crystal River Joe, We’re Bucs fans too!

  21. T in Orlando Says:

The only thing a win does this weekend, is ensure we don’t go 0-16, it does not change much else beyond that.

We’d still be the same team that lost in consecutive weeks to back-up quarterbacks at home, and got blown out by a good (not great) Atlanta Team.

It’ll be nice if/when we get back to the point, where a single Win is expected, not something that “changes everything”. This is probably years, if not decades away.

  22. Couch Fan Says:

As a lifelong Bucs fan there is 1 thing I know beyond a shadow of a doubt. Never get your hopes up with this team, they will break your freakin heart in half.

  23. Louis Friend Says:

After the last game, nobody should believe they can win this game. It’s sad that we’ve fallen so low, so quickly. But they deserve to be this low, they’ve EARNED their scorn. That there are ANY fans left who want them to win a game is a testament to the FANS – not the team.

Everyone on here deserves the utmost respect and admiration for being loyal enough to hate their stinking guts, if you feel that way. That you haven’t hung it up and walked out the door like so many others says more about your willingness to fight through this crap and hope one day we’ll see a team worth cheering.

As for McCoy, he can say whatever he wants to. Prove it. The fans who keep showing up at the stadium and on these sites after so many merciless beatdowns are proving it – the players can do as much to match them.

  24. Brandon Says:

If McCoy loves being the underdog then it’s a done eal that he re-signs with the Bucs to a very cap and team friendly deal. Because if he stays in Tampa, he’s going to be an underdog every week… which he loves.

  25. Buccfan37 Says:

Couch and Louis Friend… both your statements hit the nail on the head. Moderate your expectations of anything Bucs.

  26. james west Says:

there is absolutely no chance lovie will outcoach tomlin, and there is even less of a chance (if that’s possible) frazier’s defensive play calls. can even remotely match the intensity of Pittsburgh’s D.C. that being said. it all is about this. is there any heart left in the bucs? I mean even a blind squirrel gets a nut sometime. but the realist in me say’s no. tedford’s leave of absence is hurting this club more than lovie want’s to admit. in my opinion I do not think that the O line can keep glennon up right, he will be hit and hurried, also d.martin in my opinion had his heyday, and will not be the back, that tampa thought he would be. and our tampa two. last time I seen Pittsburgh play us they didn’t have a problem figuring it out. after we go 0-4 lovie’s time clock will officially start counting down, and any heart left in his club will be broken.

  27. buc4lyfe Says:

Yea OK GMC still waiting on your unit to pick up the slack and lead this team like you claimed…. Just like I said this team is all bark no bite. Listen to them pumping themselves up all week just to get in the game and look lost. Doesn’t he realize dirty players will be looking to fit that hand on purpose. I hope you’re ready big mouth GO BUCS! you can do it!!!

“As a lifelong Bucs fan there is 1 thing I know beyond a shadow of a doubt. Never get your hopes up with this team, they will break your freakin heart in half.”

LOL Couch. Try being a Red Sox and Bucs fan your whole life. It hasn’t been easy, but I stood by them. The Bucs SB Champs, the Sox finally lifting the curse and winning the World Series. Those 2 things I got to see and enjoy it even more because I stuck it out and suffered.

That’s why my Bucs motto is futility makes winning sweeter. Suffer, suffer and suffer some more. Then BLAM they all of a sudden get it together and start winning (someday). It’s all worth it for me to wait.

  29. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“I can’t stand this guy. Can’t wait to watch him disappear on 3rd downs this week as per usual. SIGH.”

    ———

SMH. The stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze.

  30. Jim Walker Says:

Anyone who thinks that this team can go to Heinz field and beat the Steelers needs to up their meds. The Bucs historically do not match up.

  31. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Those of you complaining about him talking, what do you expect him to say? Do you think he’s calling the radio stations begging for some air time so that he can blow smoke? Would you rather him say “we’ve got no chance this week”? What exactly do you want? The guy can’t even do an interview without some of you morons jumping down his back. Some of you are just out for blood, but don’t for one second get upset when a player decides to go elsewhere. It’s fans like you that are the very reason our fans have such a bad reputation around the country.

  32. Jim Walker Says:

    Oh yeah, for some perspective:

    2010/09/26 Steelers 38 – Buccaneers 13
    2006/12/03 Steelers 20 – Buccaneers 3
    2002/12/23 Steelers 17 – Buccaneers 7
    2001/10/21 Steelers 17 – Buccaneers 10
    1998/12/13 Steelers 3 – Buccaneers 16
    1989/12/24 Steelers 31 – Buccaneers 22
    1983/10/30 Steelers 17 – Buccaneers 12
    1980/11/09 Steelers 24 – Buccaneers 21
    1976/12/05 Steelers 42 – Buccaneers 0

  33. BucIt941 Says:

    so you’re saying ….. there’s a chance?

  34. Buc1987 Says:

Hawaiian Buc….Tampa Bay is the NFL leader in bandwagon fans.

  35. chef paul Says:

    @Harry,
Speaking of Eli, the Giants got a new system this year. They were a complete mess. Almost as bad as us. Last night looked like the light went on for them. Maybe week four the light will turn on for us too… Ah , who the hell am I kidding. Were doomed!!!

  36. feelthepewterpower Says:

I’m one of the few predicting upset this week!

  37. Skyline Crew Says:

A win would not restore my faith in the Lovie Smith Regime.

  38. Buc1987 Says:

“Ah , who the hell am I kidding. Were doomed!!!”

Chef Paul…it’s much easier thinking that way in advance. Set your expectations really really low. If they pull off a win here and there. It kind of makes the win more fun, because you’re not expecting it at all. It works for me anyways.

  39. BFFL Says:

McCoy is by far the best thing going for the Bucs. With McCoy the Bucs have an average defense. Without McCoy they are the worst defense in the history of this game we call American football. Please stop with the criticism of McCoy. If I were him I would want the hell out of Tampa and play for a team that has a chance. This guy actually wants to be in Tampa and we have stupid fans that would actually criticize him..fkn ridiculous.

  40. Couch Fan Says:

Hate to bust your bubble but even with McCoy in there they have not been average. Sometimes he plays like an all pro. Other times he can not beat 1 on 1 with back ups. I like him a lot but he is highly over rated at this time in my opinion.

  41. Snook Says:

No chance to win this game?

Good. Let’s hope that pans out for the next 13…

  42. Louis Friend Says:

It’s the NFL, so you can never say it’s impossible for a team to win. But I think my odds of scoring with Kate Upton are better than theirs of winning.

  43. RastaMon Says:

yeah..but visons of being rebuffed by Kate Upton are FOREVER and can be morphed into possiblity….last Bucs game disappears with the pop of a top on a 24.oz Bud can

  44. Nick White Says:

you guys all sound straight RETARD. Was top DT in NFL last year, had 8 tackles and a sack game 1. Show me something? HE BROKE HIS FUCKING HAND. You guys are legit embarrassment to us Tampa Bay fans, if i knew what people said on here I wouldnt even play on this team. you guys are sooooooooooo pathetic

  45. Nick White Says:

all you bashing mccoy are the stupidest NFL fans in the USA and shouldnt even watch football. overrated? top rated DT in nfl last year 5th OVERALL rated player. had 8 tackles and a sack game 1 at DT, find another DT with 8 tackles all year. you guys are stupid and embarrassment to this site

  46. Buccfan37 Says:

If the Bucs have never beat the Steelers, then they are long overdue. Law of averages work in the Bucs favor. Whoopee!

  47. Buccfan37 Says:

Except for that one win by the Bucs of course. I thought the Bucs had beat them once.

  48. "TheKevin" Says:

    @jameswest

A blind squirrel does not always find a nut. If he is in Antarctica he will find no nuts but his own.

This team will not “accidentally” find a win. This team is actually so bad there is no way they stumble into a win.

I’m just saying don’t buy into the crap for this week.

There is no chance on planet earth the bucs win this game. None. Not one shred of hope.

Go ahead and mentally prepare yourselves for a thrashing that will be had Sunday at 1pm.

I wish we could win to people. But it will not be this week.

And yes I’m definitely starting Antonio brown against my beloved bucs.

  49. "TheKevin" Says:

And get off McCoy. He’s the best player the team has. We’re lucky he wants to even be here. And all those whining about McCoy will be crying when he decides he doesn’t wanna play here anymore. And who could blame him.

  50. Broy34 Says:

Hey does anybody think Lovie will use the 1st overall pick on the top available quarterback of Glennon/the defense plays poorly enough?

  51. Broy34 Says:

Nick white ^^amen brother. I literally don’t even let them get to me. If you say McCoy is overrated or takes 3rd downs off like the moron earlier said then you’re not worthy of my thought

  52. Louis Friend Says:

Any fan willing to show up on these boards and act like they give a rip – even to blast the players – all power to them. After the latest massacre I don’t care if they take a piss on the Bucs logo at RJS. No holds barred after the way this season has started. I salute anyone who hasn’t fallen into apathy.

  53. Bill Byrne Says:

ALL of the experts picked the Redskins to defeat the Giants last night……!!! Did I miss something? There is no such thing as an NFL expert on ESPN or the NFL channel, or on CBS, ABC and FOX. The BUCS will not only show up Sunday, there is going to be a good old fashion “BUCS ass kicking” of the Steelers. After that, I wonder where all the “experts” will be hiding…..including mant of these posters.

  54. Buc1987 Says:

Bill Byrne….I’ll still be here whether they win or lose, but I still think the Steelers are going to hand us our ass nearly as bad as the Falcons did.

This is only just the beginning there’s a long season to go and many more beatings for the Bucs to suffer.

Still many, many games left for fans to realize that Lovie Smith is not going to be Tony Dungy part 2 like most of them thought.

  55. SOOFIERCE Says:

We are not even “Paper Champions” anymore! No identity, no attitude, no personality… We are just a bunch of irrelevant nobodies…

The team looks like someone changed the button layout on my Xbox 1 controller during a Call of Duty team death match.

  56. "TheKevin" Says:

I’m headed to bill Byrnes house to smoke whatever he’s got. Cause wow it must be some good shhhhhhh……….

  57. Hawk Says:

Personally, I see one of two things happening (and I’m hoping for the first).
#1 The Bucs play the Steelers close (win or lose) and have a respectable showing in all three phases of the game (four including coaching). This would make the Falcon game look like an anomaly. The potential for them to get better would then become a reasonable argument.
#2 The Steelers continue where the Falcons left off and the Glazer boys pull out the file containing coaching resumes. I do not believe they would fire Lovie during the season, but they would to make sure the file is up to date and add any new possibilities.
We are only three games into the season, but the ‘Falcon Fiasco’ makes it feel like we’re much farther along.
