Broken Down After Breaking Out
September 28th, 2014The glorious sweetness of today’s stunning victory in Pittsburgh was indeed a little soured by the loss of wide receiver Mike Evans to what looked like a serious groin pull. (Fingers crossed on him not needing surgery.)
Finally. Finally! The Bucs targeted their big rookie deep, and Evans showed the baby soft hands and the savage in-air awareness that helped make Johnny Football a household name.
Evans had four catches for 65 yards and a touchdown. And perhaps his sweetest catch of the day was a hair out of bounds after an end zone overthrow by the Bucs’ rightful starting quarterback, Mike Glennon.
Damn, this kid has special hands. It was legendary personnel man Gil Brandt who declared early this year that Evans had the best hands of any prospect since Calvin Johnson.
If Evans can return to the field, and Glennon can learn how to throw the ball higher to all the “Dunkaneers,” then some special things surely could happen. That’s a lot of ifs, especially when you factor in Vincent Jackson’s season-long struggles and bum wrist, but it’s something to help keep hope alive.

Can’t believe how Glennon threw that ball. It clearly was the reason for Evans injury.
September 28th, 2014 at 6:35 pm
great hands but soft body. gets injured too easily.
reminds me of the teddy bear in wilfred, not godzilla.
September 28th, 2014 at 6:35 pm
my biggest concern is our secondary, too many times guys are standing around WIDE open.
September 28th, 2014 at 6:37 pm
Vjax made me look bad early with all those drops. Caught the game winner though so all is forgiven. Evans did his thing today. Kudos to the kid, but how about that Louis Murphy kid, where did he come from?
September 28th, 2014 at 6:38 pm
Mike glennon is the real deal.
its about time the rest of the doubters come around
September 28th, 2014 at 6:39 pm
Evans is a stud just needs passing game behind him. Pretty psyched about our young receiving weapons asj and Evans. Also that’s a young defense overall. Haven’t looked great but 3 young all pros- gmc verner lavonte. Just need to add some o-line guys and maybe qb with 1st pick. Looking forward to see if other young guys on team step up this season: banks bowers gholson Glennon Shepard Rainey? Biggest concern this zone scheme seems outdated getting ripped up every game!!
September 28th, 2014 at 6:42 pm
All he’s proven is that he deserves another shot.
September 28th, 2014 at 6:47 pm
mike glennon is about as real a deal as pinocchio is a real boy at this point in both their stories.
September 28th, 2014 at 6:50 pm
MGM deserves this new moniker. MGM -the only qb to win a game for the bucs in the last 2 years.
September 28th, 2014 at 6:50 pm
I hope Evans injury is’nt serious also. The Bucs need his skills badly going forward.

Yeah. Blame it on the WINNING QB.

It was ny birthday today and couldn’t be happier!!! Glennon is the lil engine who could!! Way to come back and win a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 28th, 2014 at 6:51 pm
Evans was moving around pretty good when cheering the win. Hope all is good with him. Good qb’s spread the ball around…..Shepard, Evans, vjay, Murphy, mart, Asj et….. Glennon was money
Vjay caught the Qb, but his drops have caught my attention just as much. Why do you think glennon went away from him to Evans? Evans got hurt and it was Murphy time!

Brent, the cover 2 is no where near being out dated. But to this point we haven’t been executing it to it’s full potential. Carolina’s 2nd rank defense from last year is virtually the same scheme that we run. But it lives and dies by the pass rush generated by the front 4, or lack there of. And the dudes in coverage have to be in the right position and make the correct decisions in order for plays to be made. We made some strides today as far as pressuring the Qb, but the coverage needs to step its game up.

Vjay caught the td….
September 28th, 2014 at 6:59 pm
I don’t think it’s too serious. If you watch the highlight video for the game winning touchdown you’ll see Evans celebrate with Jackson, yea he’s limping, but to see him on his feet is encouraging.

Great moniker…only QB to win in the past two years…blech. The same claims could’ve been made from 96-98 with Trent Dilfer, other years wi th DeBerg or Testaverde…stupid moniker, really stupid.
September 28th, 2014 at 7:07 pm
Hope your right Blake. Our guys def look lost at times. 5 sacks and good pressure but Big Ben ripped us up. He should have had 4 Tds but brown dropped a td. Big Ben 350 yds 3 Tds 70% no picks.
September 28th, 2014 at 7:13 pm
Evans will be out for the year.

Sounds like Brandon is threatened by the love others are giving to Glennon.

FOX confirms groin injury for Mike Evans. Could be multi-week absence.
September 28th, 2014 at 7:33 pm
The bucs silenced Heinz Field and won, glennon was a big part of that, we should at least wait to tomorrow to start bashing the team, let them and everybody here rejoice in our first win.. WE ROCKED IT TODAY..Kiss 0-16 bye bye baby..
September 28th, 2014 at 7:50 pm
Haters mad.
September 28th, 2014 at 7:59 pm
FIRETHECANNON!!!!!
That’s also a nice touch they were wearing a MG Mike Glennon patch.
September 28th, 2014 at 8:03 pm

September 28th, 2014 at 8:11 pm

seriously get these guys to a yoga class…their flexibilty has a zero recovery rate….the strength coach needs to evolve
September 29th, 2014 at 8:41 am
I think its crazy that the bucs are already honoring Glennon with “MG” patches on their uniforms. Totally absurd!!! 😉
September 29th, 2014 at 9:50 am
VJAX wrists are obviously a factor in him dropping so many passes. Right now he is mainly just a decoy in the offense.
