Warrick Dunn: Derrick Brooks Was Dirty
August 3rd, 2014In case you haven’t realized, the No. 28 in the JoeBucsFan.com logo is a tribute to Warrick Dunn, a longtime favorite of Joe, and Dunn was a running back for the Bucs (again) when Joe launched this corner of the Internet six years ago.
Dunn will go down as one of the great people in NFL history. Period. Dunn was on NFL Network yesterday talking about Tampa Bay and Mr. Derrick Brooks, his college teammate and friend.
Pressed to tell a good Derrick Brook story, Dunn said, “The one thing people don’t realize about him, he was a great player, but he was dirty. I played against him. I was in Atlanta; he was with the Bucs. After a tackle, instead of him just like helping me up, be was kneeing me getting up, the elbow getting up, just trying to add a little extra pressure to you.”
Dunn went on to say he understood that even though the two were close friends at that time, Dunn understood Brooks’ antics were all about winning.
Now sporting plenty of gray hair (Damn, Joe feels old), Dunn went on to say the Bucs should be 10 times better this season. He attributed much of that to coaching and the receiving corps, but Dunn, sadly, remains a part owner of the Falcons, so that’s where his heart lies.

He was on my flight back to atlanta this morning.
Although he’s a Falcon, I have great Noles and Bucs memories of him…

Did’nt know Dunn was a part owner of the mangy falcants. Ok, Brooks and Dunn, the two best players out of Fl. St. to ever play for the Bucs. I am a big Dunn fan also, a terrific RB for the Bucs.

WD40 was the perfect match from the backfield. They were both exciting to watch. Great memories.
Dunn like Brooks was a great player and is a better person.
Thanks Wyche & Dungy!

My gosh Joe’s….I wouldnt think you’d go with a story about Brooks “allegedly” being a dirty player the day after his HOF enshrinement!!! wow!
Geez, it’s Warrick Dunn sharing a different kind of Brooks respect. Yeah, like Joe wasn’t going to share this. Joe’s sure it would even make Brooks smile. –Joe

I have always liked, and respected Warrick Dunn, and at the time, he was one of my favorite Buccaneers. I felt a little betrayed, when he left the Bucs to play for a division rival. Maybe, Derrick Brooks felt the same way.

time for me to walk away from this screwed up site……screw you Joe’s….I look forward to seeing you guys one day so I can buy you a beer…..then pour it over your heads
Joe can’t make everyone happy. Joe wishes you well in your future Internet surfing but cannot endorse that horrific waste of beer.–Joe

He’s a Falcon. Period.
Sounds a little envious too.

Nothing wrong with being a bit “dirty”…….Beck likes to point out that Hardy Nickerson was a bit “dirty” and who was a young player watching and learning from him…..of course, our favorite player, Mr. Derrick Brooks…..
Nothing wrong with it unless you’re too much dirty like “The Hawk” …. who will be re-educated by Lovie’s staff so hopefully he can jar a few bones, cause incompletions and fumbles and still stay off the suspension list.

Lol well said Joe. Take care Mad Max!
August 3rd, 2014 at 12:20 pm
Off topic: Joe do you think it’s a possibility that Jace Daniel gets the starting center position and Evan Dietrich-Smith gets moved to one of the guard positions?
August 3rd, 2014 at 12:22 pm
The guard position bewilder’s me right now, and i dont like it.

Dunn gets No Love from me. He’s a Falcon and they’re the enemy so I really don’t care what he says.

Would be shocked. No reason to create more havoc on the offensive line by moving EDS to a new position, thereby weakening perhaps two spots. EDS, as far as Joe has seen, has not taken one snap anywhere but at center.
That would be a complete and total panic move.

You guys crack me up. Joe is not disrespecting 55. This kind of antics are what good defensive players do. It is coached, dirty players punch you in the pile.

Context!
In Dunn’s context, “dirty” means gritty and respectable.

Check the film and see how many guys Butkis or Singletary helped up.
Part of the game.
Brooks was obviously in Warrick’s head about it.
All good. Still love 28…..

The way that Warrick delivered what he said was easily recognized as playful fun. In fact, meaning no disrespect to “Double Nickel”, I actually smiled after he said it too. In no way, shape, or form did I believe Warrick meant any disrespect to Derrick. Max for all the things to get mad at Joe about, you chose a poor example. Maybe you should apologize once you’ve cooled down and reflected back on the intent of the article and Warrick’s comedic take on his relationship with his college and NFL teammate and BFF, Derrick Brooks.

Did Dunn ever consider that those were special love taps just for him?
August 3rd, 2014 at 2:59 pm
Well said Eric. Love 28 & 55.
August 3rd, 2014 at 3:03 pm
I love Warrick Dunn!
Fudge Dom for not letting them both retire as Bucs!
Warrick came back to the Bucs for that second stint because he never stopped loving the Bucs!
Go bucs!

Brooks to Isaac Bruce….”you come across the middle again and Ill knock you out” Sorry folks, NFL football is a nasty game. If you’re a dick on the field and a class act off then you got it right. Congrats Derrick….you got it right!
