Vincent Jackson Digging Tedford Offense
August 4th, 2014Yes, Joe got excited yesterday, but it wasn’t as if Rachel Watson came out of retirement. Not quite that big news.
No, Joe was fired up watching rookie tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins going ham on veteran cornerbacks. It didn’t seem fair and didn’t seem right but Joe got hooked on the rookie from the University of Washington.
Having targets like ASJ and Mike Evans would be any quarterback’s dream. Lest we forget, the Bucs have a savvy veteran who proves an equally bit target, Vincent Jackson, himself 6-5.
Jackson, despite having new players — rookies and free agent signees — around him, said he is really looking forward to what this overhauled Bucs offense could be.
“I’m excited where we’re at right now,” Jackson said. “I think we’re ahead of the curve for being a new offense with a lot of new guys together. I think we’re doing good.
“I feel great about the chemistry. I feel like we’ve got guys in positions where we can spread the ball around. [We can] make a lot of plays at the tight end position, running backs can catch the ball in the backfield, a multitude of receivers – we’re going to be very deep there. So it’s good. It’s a good feeling where we can go out there and get the ball spread around, create mismatches, and know that everybody that steps in can potentially make a play.”
Geez, when was the last time Bucs fans could be excited about the team’s offense? Maybe Chucky’s first year in 2002? Maybe Chucky’s last year in 2008? Perhaps midway through the 2012 or 2010 seasons? Certainly few times other than those.
Preseason starts with the Bucs playing at the Jags on Friday night. If ASJ plays anywhere close to the way he has been practicing, many Bucs fans will wake up with hangovers Saturday morning.
And, as Maxwell Smart would say, loving it.

Let’s rejoice after he (ASJ) catches 8 for 155 and two touchdowns in the opener.

VJax’s words are music to my ears! I predict our Offense is going to be lethal this year just as long as we keep albatross Glennon on the sidelines, or hopefully, traded this week. Our OL is improving by the day and we have plenty of talent there if we don’t add another player. We have never had a stable of WRs and RBs like we have now. Our defense has all the players it needs too. That means we will be able to move up next year and get a Franchise QB of the future to follow Josh when he retires to become our QB Coach. The makings of a dynasty are right here now. Lets use our cap space for long term contracts for our key players like McCoy. We need to retain our coaching staff because they can take walk ons and build them into stars like Seattle does.

Yeah, the offense seems to have a lot of players at the RB, WR and TE skill positions. Call me stubborn, but McCown just might be the albatross or replaced QB at starter. I don’t think Glennon is going anywhere off the team anytime soon.
