“Until It’s Annoying”
August 12th, 2014As a former 21-year-old, and a guy who’s been around all kinds of young adults through the years, Joe can safely say Bucs rookie tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins is one of the most polished 21-year-old speakers he’s encountered.
The kid really has a gift. Since his arrival after the draft, Seferian-Jenkins has been extraordinarily poised around media. The man is ready for a political career.
Bucs fans and media alike have seen Seferian-Jenkins dominate defenders in practice and look like a punishing force that will shake up the NFL. His preseason debut, however, wasn’t too pretty on Friday.
In limited reps, Seferian-Jenkins had a couple of holding calls, plus a ball in his hands that wasn’t caught. It didn’t appear to be tipped, but it could have been.
Seferian-Jenkins chatted about a wide variety of subjects with local media yesterday, including how he’s drilling technique “until it’s annoying. Joe’s got a big chunk of the audio below, via 620wdae.com.
Joe recommends the listen, if for no other reason that to listen to the smooth-talking rookie. Joe asked the question about which of the experienced tight ends on the roster are helping him most and for what is he leaning on that guy for most. Of course, Seferian-Jenkins had an artful, company-man answer.
Enjoy.

I agree, poised and articulate. Speaks from the heart, doesn’t use canned expressions. Refreshing!

I thought he played pretty good against the Jags. He did have a 50+ yard completion called back because of holding. Can’t wait to see more of this guy.

Very articulate. It is going to be exciting to watch him develop.

Being articulate is a quality that matter’s very little to being a good tight end.

You are correct. Seems to know how to speak to the media very well. Very articulate.
I think it is safe to assume he did not Major in Basket-weaving in college.

He had that fantastic reception that was called back. Good thing for him is it is still on tape.
I mean that play stood out to me.
He looked like a WR on that play. I was like WOW, that was the new TE???

Let’s just hope he excels at football before he hits the broadcast booth or becomes a politician. He appears to be as well spoken and polished as VJax at the tender age of 21. We all know you don’t have to be smart to play the game, but it certainly can’t hurt making the transition into the pros.

I’ve watched ASJ from the beginning and I am truly impressed with what he says and how he says it. If he wishes he will undoubtedly join the long list of exBuc Broadcasters.
I think his smarts will help him with his career. He obviously has the size/speed and ability to be great. I think he was a very good pick.

Take another look at that holding call. That was a BS call. He let go in time IMHO.

@ Jim
They’re gonna call that every time. Im a former college offensive lineman and have a soft spot for the big guys, but he got whooped off the ball and never recovered.
As for ASJ, if he stays healthy and one of our QB’s can stay upright long enough to find him, he will do some damage. Five or six TD’s shouldn’t be too far of a reach for this kid if our offense can get things on track.

He is a beast!

Beast with a head on his shoulders.
