Tommy Streeter Cut A Bit Surprising
August 24th, 2014Joe was a bit surprised to read the name of Tommy Streeter on the list of a dozen cuts today by the Bucs, who need to slice three more players to get down to the mandated 75 by Tuesday afternoon. In training camp, Streeter sure seemed like a keeper.
On the first day of training camp, Streeter, who often worked with the second team, caught a long ball from Mike Glennon and put a move on corner Rashaan Melvin so badly that Melvin hit the turf, blowing out an ankle.
Streeter shined through the early weeks of training camp before fellow wide receiver Louis Murphy began to catch fire and even things up with Streeter if not pull ahead of him.
Streeter wasn’t cut out for special teams and that likely doomed him in the end. Kind of hard to give a roster spot to a backup who is limited.
Streeter looked the part being 6-5. In the end, it seemed Streeter was competing with Murphy for the same spot. It was Murphy’s to lose and he has played and practiced well of late, which made Streeter expendable.

Guess what?
Sam Bradford is out for the season.
Trade Glennon for a first round pick?
August 24th, 2014 at 6:06 pm
I was hoping he would make it. Hopefully he makes it to the practice squad, although I would not be surprised if Chicago scoops him up….
August 24th, 2014 at 6:13 pm
Absolutely due to special teams. If you can’t cover kicks and punts then you don’t add a whole lot of value because with any luck he won’t get any snaps on offense. Same reason Tiquan keeps getting cut. He isn’t good enough to start and can’t play special teams.

Watch the Panthers snag him and we snag Underwood.
August 24th, 2014 at 6:18 pm
Been at the bar all afternoon, eh?
August 24th, 2014 at 6:31 pm
Just goes to prove yet again that coach speak about training camp wonders can’t be trusted.
August 24th, 2014 at 6:32 pm
Our FO should smell blood in St Louis, need to make something happen with Glennon and get some OL ammo… Unless the Jets beat us to it.
August 24th, 2014 at 6:46 pm
1I’ll raise ya…2 first round picks
August 24th, 2014 at 6:47 pm
After watching that 3rd game, we have a REAL chance to go 10wins +… The bottom line should be upgrading that OL right now… Its seems like the real heart of our offense is Down-Low Doug, so lets offer up Glennon to the Rams for some OL upgrade and a pick… I want to win Now!
August 24th, 2014 at 6:50 pm
…don’t mean to get off topic Joes, but this Bradford issue brings up some legitimate Glennon-trade scenarios…
August 24th, 2014 at 7:02 pm
Glennon for a first rounder? Lol
Last place offense last year.
And did you watch him yesterday?
You couldn’t get a 7th round pick.
Streeter was a real surprise. He had hands and speed- plus he is prototypical Buc Reciever at 6’5″. – don’t have to change the offense at all.
Buuuut, I’m sure Lovie had a reason. And “In Lovie we trust!”
August 24th, 2014 at 7:03 pm
Why would the Rams want Glennon? Those people pushing to get rid of the Bucs future QB must feel as if you are in the majority. You are not. The coaches like him, or are they just lying to keep any interest by other teams elevated? You must feel McCown has proven his starter selection. One half way decent game does’nt clarify that to me. Oh well, the Glennon mob has been quiet lately. Nothing would surprise me. Maybe a first for Glennon would.
August 24th, 2014 at 7:05 pm
My guess is, St.Louis is calling Washington about Cousins.
Or New England about either of their QBs.
Glennon- lol!!!
August 24th, 2014 at 7:05 pm
You can’t get a seventh round pick for Albatross Glennon. Who wants a QB who even got to play behind our first string line at times and got a lot of playing time and could only score one touchdown and with only one rusher falls down on the ground like a baby? Remember I warned Lovie if he didn’t trade away Glennon before Preseason Games he would be worthless afterwards? Heck, our third string QB, Kafka, scored a touchdown under extreme pressure in his face, playing less than a fourth of the time wasted on our precious Albatross, and behind a porous third string line drove his team down there too. I would have kept Streeter and cut Worthless Glennon!

Trading Glennon would not make sense at the point. What would happen if mccown got hurt? Let’s be honest, we are a team needing depth, Mccown hasn’t started a full season yet, so the chances of him missing a start or two are very solid.

No offense to the MGM, but the ‘QB of the Future’ is a top 5 backup with recent starting experience… So if the Rams are looking for a consistent QB with games under his belt, he can put some of their fans minds at ease while he consistently uses his mediocrity to pund out another 32nd ranked offense, and then they get a top pick in 2015…. its a win-win for them.
For us, the time is NOW…. We need some OGs for Down-Low… And for McCown too… but lets pounce on this opportunity to upgrade our OL, protect McCown for a few seasons, while our scouts go on the lookout for a REAL QB of the future… Lets win NOW! And again, to the MGM, ‘no offense’ (which can go both ways since under him we had no off- well you get the picture)

#1 Glennon isn’t a sure upgrade over Shaun Hill.
#2 Even if they did take Glennon, hard to fathom consideredhow he froze last season against Rams, he still won’t learn the system and help the team enough to keep them from drafting in the top 5.
#3 It would be hard to believe Glennon is worth a top 5 pick in round 3.
There are other options…Sanchez, knows system well, Ryan Mallett, Christian Ponder, or perhaps they go free agency and look at Freeman or Fischer’s old guy, Vince Young.

Practice squad?
August 24th, 2014 at 7:43 pm
Funny how this article went from Streeter, a wide receiver being cut. To let’s get rid of Glennon??? You Guys are a friggen trip to read all the time.
Joe, the reason I come back, is I don’t want to miss the crazy posts on here….
This place is great for my entertainment escape from reality!
August 24th, 2014 at 7:45 pm
Yes this cut was a surprise but I doubt Streeter will be unemployed for long
August 24th, 2014 at 7:46 pm
Still waiting to see something from Glennon to show me he’s the Qb of the future.
August 24th, 2014 at 8:38 pm
Cutting streeter now so he can b resigned to practiced team later
August 24th, 2014 at 8:40 pm
Joe gets all jiggly thinking about that.

I’m first a diehard loyal Buc fan. And I trust and support Lovie Smith as HC. But I would not be sincere if I didn’t say that I’m disappointed over the Tommy Streeter release. I know this kid from high school (Football University or Miami Northwestern – same school that gave us Lavonte David) and the U. He will catch anything thrown his way and has the wheels to leave the fastest DBs in a chase. He is young, a little difficult to manage, but needs the right mentor to succeed. My worst fear is that we see this guy again in another uniform ummm….like Carolina. I know its football and we can’t keep everybody, but I’ve seen Owusu under the lights and wasn’t impressed. I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong, but I had to say it. Moving on now hoping Bucs win. Go Bucs!
August 24th, 2014 at 9:00 pm
Cannon, DQ and Cousins to the Rams for a second round pick. We package this second with our first to move up to take Brett Hundley. We need a young mobile QB to groom behind JMac. Cannon is only good on special teams blocking field goals with his neck.
August 24th, 2014 at 9:18 pm
I don’t think this had as much to do with competition at receiver, but needing an extra roster spot for injuries at corner and experimenting at guard.
August 24th, 2014 at 9:47 pm
I say cut Glennon and sign Tebow..how about that. I think Glennon is a pure sack target!
August 24th, 2014 at 9:51 pm
Hopefully gets to our practice squad.
August 24th, 2014 at 11:02 pm
Well, if we trade Glennon, who is our backup? That’s a big effing problem. With our O-line, McCown is gonna absorb more than his share of hits early in the year. If we trade Glennon and McCown goes down, we’re sunk. And to the ridiculous person who suggested we sign Tebow, let us know when you decide to visit this planet… The Tebow mob is like a cult — they can’t shake off this fantasy that he’s an NFL QB and they keep going on and on and on.
August 24th, 2014 at 11:39 pm
He was my dark horse player. I thought he might make it.
August 25th, 2014 at 4:37 am
Maybe Tedford only gave him 20 percent of the offense and is hoping Carolina will pick him up. In the opener he could unleash the mysterious 80 percent and catch the Panthers unprepared. Seriously I to was a little shocked by his release. If anything I believe that cracked ribs will play a far bigger roll in our opener with Carolina.
August 25th, 2014 at 1:36 pm
Streeter got cut because he outplayed our overrated 7th overall pick Mike Evans. He should sign with a team that knows how to put and coach talent on both sides of the ball.
