Stop With Glennon-To-Rams Nonsense!
August 25th, 2014Joe just couldn’t believe it. Yesterday, it didn’t take but 10 seconds for it to happen. The instant the news came across Twitter that Sam Bradford’s days in St. Louis have essential ended, as the Rams quarterback suffered another season-ending knee-injury; Joe got a question about the Bucs trading the quarterback of the future and the quarterback of the past but not the quarterback of the present, Mike Glennon.
Joe’s head almost hit the keyboard.
(Bradford is due $16 million next season in the last year of his current contract with the Rams. The Walmart-heir-by-marriage who owns the Rams, Stan Kroenke, would have to be drowning in Budweiser to cough up that kind of cash on a guy whose career is shattered.)
It was almost as if this same person had typed on Twitter the question about the Bucs quarterback of the future and the quarterback of the past but not the quarterback of the present, hoping upon twisted hope that the sad news about Bradford would break so said reader would only have to click “enter.”
Joe just doesn’t get it. Joe knows from a trusted Bucs source that several teams attempted to acquire the Bucs quarterback of the future and the quarterback of the past but not the quarterback of the present this past May.
The Bucs fielded so many calls for the services of their quarterback of the future and the quarterback of the past but not the quarterback of the present that, in part, it changed their minds on the quarterback of the future and the quarterback of the past but not the quarterback of the present. So what makes anyone think the Rams would be able to pry away the quarterback of the future and the quarterback of the past but not the quarterback of the present from the clutches of general manger Jason Licht and coach Lovie Smith?
Then Joe noticed in the comments that a reader actually tried to make the case that the Rams would offer a first round pick for the Bucs’ quarterback of the future and the quarterback of the past but not the quarterback of the present. What type of insane asylum did Jeff Fisher just walk out of to make anyone think he would trade a first round pick for a guy who led the Bucs to the worst offense in the NFL last season?
If Fisher pulled off a stunt like that, it would be good thing that the baseball Cardinals are only 1.5 games out of first place so only a dozen or so people in St. Louis would notice.
After Joe read that someone actually believed Glennon is worth a first round pick, Joe turned to his trusty bottle of Crown Royal.

The way Glennon has played this offseason, I’d trade him for one of those new sandwiches you were talking about at the stadium.
August 25th, 2014 at 6:17 am
It’s good to have a serviceable back-up!
August 25th, 2014 at 6:24 am
Lord, if thats going to be the new catch phrase for Glennon then dont bother writing another story on the subject. A truly painful read.
August 25th, 2014 at 6:30 am
Quarterback of the future and the quarterback of the past but not the quarterback of the present… almost Seuss.
Why would we trade away a young, promising, affordable backup? If it’s a first, sure.
August 25th, 2014 at 6:38 am
Hilarious! They should watch the replay of the second half of Saturday’s game in NFL Network this week. Glennon looked like he did at the end of last year. No touchdowns in the second half.
I thought Glennon would improve since the commander no longer had control of him. Nope! Sorry MGMrs. The clipboard is in his hands for the next 2 seasons. Hopefully we draft competition on the draft next year.
August 25th, 2014 at 6:45 am
I admit my first thought was to try to trade Glennon when I heard about Bradford. I still think we should unless we expect to draft and buyout anyone on the market next year to protect Glennon. The guy can deliver it and take a hit on the throw but he won’t last much if he can’t develop any pocket awareness..
I just don’t think we could get a 1st round..
August 25th, 2014 at 6:45 am
The way they basically raped the Redskins, I’d say they’re making sound personnel decisions as of late. I love their draft this year.
August 25th, 2014 at 6:48 am
Bradford going down……and now I see that Newton has a fractured rib….will probably play 9/7…..but will not get much work before then.
Can we have a Brees injury now…….don’t wish players ill,,,,,just enough to keep thme out against us….I want to win & will take anything it takes to get that.
As for Glennon…..I think the Rams will wait to draft one of the many really good QBs that will be coming out in 15…..
August 25th, 2014 at 6:52 am
Glennon isn’t going anywhere. What would the plan be at backup QB if they traded him? Relying on McCown for a full season, when he’s never started a full season, isn’t practical. The Bucs can’t afford to trade him.
August 25th, 2014 at 6:56 am
Right on, gotbbucs
August 25th, 2014 at 6:56 am
The only thing I got from this is “Don’t bring up hypothetical situations to Joe on twitter”… Hell I briefly thought the same thing when I first read about Bradford going down. It’s not likely, but it’s fun to make “bold predictions”.
August 25th, 2014 at 6:57 am
Freeman in a rams uniform. Film at 11. 😎

August 25th, 2014 at 7:06 am
They will be in The Mariotta/Winston race. Or they trade for Buttfumble.
August 25th, 2014 at 7:06 am
I’m still thinking L&L are watching the Waiver wires- to find a decent backup for THIS team. After Sunday, it’s pretty obvious that if McCown goes down, then you can right off the season.
We need a QB. To think that the Rams would trade anything for Glennon is just delusional.
Might trade us Bradford. He’s as done as deep fried in St.Louis
August 25th, 2014 at 7:07 am
A lot of us said Freeman last night
August 25th, 2014 at 7:12 am
This isn’t baseball where you can plug a guy into the lineup after a trade.
The season starts in less than two weeks. What good could Glennon do the rams now?
Even if they wanted him, which they dont. And even if the bucs would trade him which they wont.
August 25th, 2014 at 7:16 am
Mob membership has dropped.
August 25th, 2014 at 7:16 am
After several whiskey’s this morning, Glennon would be worth 3 eggs/bacon/home fries and a slice of wheat toast. (Whiskey munchies) Maybe That’s why I’m not the GM!!The guy is a statue… he is a career backup in this league. If he starts for us next year Lovie will not complete his contract. No OL and your QB of the future can’t get out of his own way…not a good combination.
August 25th, 2014 at 7:19 am
It would be a dream to have the Rams take Freeman and for him to play us on 9/14……can you imagine the reception he would get from Buc fans…..but better yet, from our Defense?
August 25th, 2014 at 7:23 am
1. I like Glennon and NO WAY do I want to trade him
2. With regards to Sam Bradford – does he get paid for this season? Anything? Does anyone know?
August 25th, 2014 at 7:27 am
You don’t trade glennon because he is that a quality back up option if your starter goes down. It’s too late to find a back up at this stage on the offseason. And if you watch glennon he is what he is a good back up to have. He’s not the starter to save any franchise.
Joe I had to LOL. A first round pick? I would have been satisfied if we dealt him for a 4th during the draft.
August 25th, 2014 at 7:39 am
Joe, I really like the new Mike Glennon description you have going… LOL
“…the quarterback of the future and the quarterback of the past but not the quarterback of the present, Mike Glennon.”
This one is a good one.
August 25th, 2014 at 7:43 am
Painful read written by the petulant Joe.
August 25th, 2014 at 8:09 am
They already have a backup QB.
August 25th, 2014 at 8:12 am
He’s just a guy yes I would do it honestly and reason is even if by some miracle we made the playoffs how far would we go, were looking at a top 10-15 defense, if Glennon is a franchise quarterback which is a laughable statement, how are we gonna find the guy? There will be no high drafts, lovie doesn’t have poor enough records to draft high not with a defense like this and offensive weapons so you need all the picks you can get in order to move up and down the board.

Maybe if he didn’t have to play with the backups in the second half? Sorry knowitalls/haters, Glennon is going to stay for a long long time.
August 25th, 2014 at 8:15 am
Yea Glennon is a statue back there … you need a guy that can run like RG3,Vick ,McNabb, etc those guys win Superbowls ….guys like Manning, Brady,Flacco, Ryan ,Rivers you canT win with those guys they are like statues back there .
August 25th, 2014 at 8:16 am
Why not? With these offensive weapons and this dominating defense where are you going to find a franchise qb, is a sure bet we won’t be having anymore high draft picks

The only thing I’ve hear more nonsensical than a first rounder for Glennon, is some people actually thought the Bucs may be stupid enough to draft John Manziel. Crazy I tell ya!
August 25th, 2014 at 8:22 am
Gee Joe, why not trade career journeyman and former High School Coach Josh McCown to the Rams. I mean, just think how much the Rams might offer us for career journeyman and former High School Coach Josh McCown? I mean, I know he’s 35 years old, and I know he’s only played like a dozen games in the past 5 years, and I know he’s never started a full season at QB since he was 7 years old and in Pop Warner league….but still, with our defense and running game do we really need a career journeyman and and former High School Coach at QB when we have “quarterback of the future and quarterback of the past, but not the present”? Get Jeff Fisher on the phone!
August 25th, 2014 at 8:22 am
Joe, you may want to get your facts straight. If the Rams cut Bradford prior to the 2015 season, they will save $13 million. Great chance Bradford never plays for the Rams again.
Rams go after Cousins, Glennon or another backup OR call it a season and look to next year’s draft.
August 25th, 2014 at 8:24 am
Why not trade him so we can go after Jameis Winston? Anyone think of that. Now he would be the qb of the future. He’s big, athletic, and can make all the throws including nabbing crab legs in the same year as he nabbed the heisman trophy. Lol
August 25th, 2014 at 8:35 am
Presently the quarterback of the past is the quarterback of the future for the Bucs. Nothing has changed. The anti Glennon mob, the AGM, came back out of the woodwork, like hungry cockroaches searching for some reality to gnaw at. Glennon is not going anywhere, scurry back into your cracks.
August 25th, 2014 at 8:40 am
“…is some people actually thought the Bucs may be stupid enough to draft John Manziel. ”
Exactly.
August 25th, 2014 at 8:43 am
Doesn’t hurt to suggest an idea, even if the Bucs don’t do it. Glennon stinks, I don’t see what the fascination is with Captain Checkdown.
I was never a Tebower, but video I saw of him earlier in the year looks like he learned how to throw a nice ball. I’d take him in a heartbeat over Glennon, and maybe even over McCown.
August 25th, 2014 at 8:44 am
To a team that is being held over the barrel like that, hell yeah! Glennon is worth MORE than a first round pick! You DON’T give him away- you TAKE every penny you can from a DESPERATE team if it is offered!
Do NOT make it easy! He is NOT worth less than a first round pick PLUS more to a team with that kind of desperation! Their whole season is shot now before they play a single regular season game!
This being said, Glennon is not going anywhere.
August 25th, 2014 at 8:44 am
Freemanites are out this week in force but don’t let it bother you MGM. These people have no idea what a good QB looks like. To say Glennon played bad in mop up duty is just silly. One day all these people will turn as the QB of the future becomes upper echelon…until then we will just have to stomach these ridiculous remarks.
August 25th, 2014 at 8:48 am
I don’t even know what that article was about. Was it about how many times you could put in qb of past present not future.
August 25th, 2014 at 8:59 am
3 up^^^^
A Tebow mention. He is Freddy Krueger.
August 25th, 2014 at 9:14 am
If Tampa could get a second round (or better) pick, they should do it.
He’s looked awful.
August 25th, 2014 at 9:19 am

Glennon will be here for a long long time. Sorry haters. :0
August 25th, 2014 at 9:33 am
It is a little unfair to critique Glennon when he is working with the 2’s.
August 25th, 2014 at 9:42 am
Bradford had one of the worst yards per attempt lines in the NFL last year. Only three QBs in the league were worse. Take a guess who they were.
August 25th, 2014 at 9:56 am
MG8 is awful we need to think about the future because with him no superbowl for TB jamis winston for Qb go Bucs
August 25th, 2014 at 9:57 am
Sure, why not trade Glennon…after all we have 35-year-old career backup/journeyman and former High School Coach Josh McCown as our QB! And what could possibly go wrong with 35-year-old career backup/journeyman and former High School Coach Josh McCown at QB? Why not trade Kafka while we are at it…don’t need him….not with 35-year-old career backup/journeyman and former High School Coach Josh McCown on the roster!
August 25th, 2014 at 10:00 am
Maybe we can trade him for Davin Joeseph back 😛 lols!
August 25th, 2014 at 10:06 am
Glennon has been awful this preseason??? What are some of you talking about. I bet he has a higher preseason rating than McCown. Either way, the Bucs have the 2nd worst offense (yds per game) so far this preseason.
And Joe, there is very little chance that the Rams keep Bradford. If they release him before the 2015 season, they will save $13 million. So yeah, it makes more sense to go after Glennon, Sanchez, Cousins or another backup (unless they address it in next year’s draft)
August 25th, 2014 at 10:17 am
I could see the rams and patriots possibly trying to work out a trade for ryan mallett.
August 25th, 2014 at 10:20 am
I would be open to trading him. Glennon have made throws in triple coverages. Easily fall like a deer on ice. Inaccurate on the run. I honestly believe we’re drafting Qb in the first. Glennon’s is at it’s peak now. It will drop next year. It’s weird how rookie are out performing Glennon now.
August 25th, 2014 at 10:26 am
Value**
August 25th, 2014 at 10:35 am
Not to mention, trading Glennon would leave them without a decent backup. That could matter if McCown takes the beating he appears to be in for. And some fool suggested we sign Tebow. The comedy never ends.
August 25th, 2014 at 10:39 am
Good zinger lightningbuc!! Cannon got time with the ones! That’s why it makes sense to trade him for a second round pick!
August 25th, 2014 at 10:45 am
Christopher Says
“You don’t trade glennon because he is that a quality back up option if your starter goes down.”
That’s not actually true. Glennon has done nothing to prove himself worthy of being named the #2 quarterback.
The Bucs would be foolish to refuse a 2nd round pick for Glennon. We have our starter. Backups are ALWAYS trade bait if they have value.
You need not worry though. For one thing, Mike Glennon has played himself out of having any value above a 6th round pick. For another, our esteemed GM is incapable of getting real value in a trade. If it gets done, the Bucs would not come out ahead.
However, just to play devils advocate, this is Lovie’s honeymoon year. That means we can have a losing record and he will still have a job. It is worth the gamble of trading Glennon if we could get a 2nd rounder for him (but as I said, won’t happen). Even if McCown goes down, it doesn’t matter. We would have an extra 2nd rounder, which would give us the trading power to trade up in next years draft to pick a real QB.
So far as this year…preseason still has another week left. There are guys we can bring in the play a backup role.
Really, the Rams do have other options too, which is why I don’t think a trade with us will happen.
Unless it is a player-for-player trade. If they have a good OG or OT, maybe Licht will get it done.
August 25th, 2014 at 11:08 am
Nothing brings out the crazies like a Glennon story. Still wondering what people who say Glennon has looked horrible are watching. First game he looked better than McCown, second game about a draw. McCown (kind of) showed up for the dress rehearsal game and looked better, so that is encouraging. If Tampa does trade Glennon it should be nothing less than a second Rnd pick, they will probably need him this season.
August 25th, 2014 at 12:04 pm
That was probably the hardest article to read with all the BS about QB of the future, past, but not present crap. Hell, my eyes hurt from seeing it so many times. Worst article I’ve read and I’ve read some terrible ones about Johnny Bench.
August 25th, 2014 at 12:56 pm
How many people actually think that Mike Glennon will ever Captain this team again, (baring an unfortunate injury to McCown)? The Bucs explored trading him but wisely recognized the potential backlash when their talks went public. We love our players in Tampa Bay and there is a lot of love for Mike Glennon. However, it’s about potential, and Mike’s play has been OK, but certainly has not shown signs of becoming an elite quarterback. Take a look at the Preseason play of Blake Bortles and Teddy Bridgewater and you will see what potential to be great looks like. For the future of the team we should consider a little QB competition next Draft Season.
August 25th, 2014 at 2:40 pm
Glennon sux. I’d trade him for an equipment manager
