Monday Practice Notes & Observations
August 11th, 2014Rain didn’t stop the Bucs from having a spirited training camp practice this evening at One Buc Palace. And Joe was on hand be your eyes and ears.
Here are highlights and lowlights.
*Mike Jenkins, Keith Lewis, Rashaan Melvin, Da’Quan Bowers and Steven Means are all sidelined nursing ailments.
*Drop! Chris Owusu in drills. No defense.
*Drop! Eric Page in drills, but a much tougher catch than Owusu’s.
*Wet ball! First snap from scrimmage was fumbled, but McCown recovered and saved the play.
*Bruising fullback Jorvorskie Lane met in the hole by Lavonte David. Quality smack sound reverberates.
*Bucs opening 11-on-11 session sees a lot of running plays. Full line play on get-off but no tackling to the ground.
*Doug Martin cuts inside left tackle and busts a run.
*Offsides., Gerald McCoy
*On a snap, McCown seemed to hurt his left hand. Grimaced and jumped and was shaking it briskly.
*Drop! Doug Martin in 7-on-7 work.
*Good defense on 7-7 drills. McCown goes rough progressions and no one open so he floats right to buy time.
*Sweet pass breakup by cornerback hopeful Quinton Pointer
*Nice catches by Tim Wright (McCown), Tommy Streeter and Lavelle Hawkins.
*Near pick and tip by Lavonte David in 7-on-7 work. Johnthan Banks also had his hands on the ball but couldn’t squeeze it. Lovie won’t like that.
*McCown finds Austin Seferian-Jenkins at the sideline for seven yards and a diving catch.
*Well thrown Mike Glennon bomb of fingertips of Eric Page.
*In 7-on-7, Lovie Smith is very active between plays. Stands right in middle of play and talking each and every play.
*If real hitting were allowed, Charles Sims would have been splattered behind the line of scrimmage.
*Mike Evans goes high for a McCown offering along right sideline. Danny Gorrer was a total mismatch but did his best to try to strip ball.
*McCown nearly smothered by d-line and unloads the ball to save his neck.
*Page on the good ol’ Benn’d Around.
*The immortal Kip Edwards tips a Glennon pass.
*Monsoon-like conditions cuts practice about 30 minutes short.
Stick with Joe through the evening for so much more out of One Buc Palace.

L&L…there will be NO honeymoon…

Didn’t sound like a sharp practice. How much would you attribute that to the weather Joe?

Did Bowers practice? I seen on twitter he was in shorts on the sidelines. Maybe Lovie gave him another day off for playing so well Lol.

Yo Joe! Talk to me about Daniels. Did he take 1st reps and if so how did they look as a unit?

Thanks for a quick first report, Joe.

These cloudy rainy days are fantastic. This weather beats the heat, that’s for sure. The conditions impact the practice, as the recap shows. The Bucs may face rainy conditions in upcoming games. No further injuries is good news.

Thanks Joe. These are the telling things I was looking for. This gives a good view of what is really going on. The main thing is what is happening when the 11-on-11 drills going are on. McCown unloading and Sims splatter had to be the kind of things on everyday. Things everyone should have seen before Friday that confirmed the offense was in trouble. Not just because we had new players we have questions.

Mike Evans needs to get more flexible.
One reason Landon Donovan was so fast is because he was a gymnast as a kid.
Flexibility is HUGE.
Yoga Joe the Rasta Hippy.

I hope to see a completely different team next game. A little structure would be nice. I think the players have gotten a little emotionally “high” on Lovie being the new head coach as have fans. Hopefully last week was a nice hard cold reality check that they guys need to come ready and play hard…A little shuffling and some game planning should look a lot different. Didn’t see very creative play calling with horrible protection. Crossing my fingers

Rashaan Melvin stays hurt. It seems a number of our CB’s are always sidelined. L&L might have to carry more on the roster just because so many of them are undependable.

Yeah. Maybe he should be a returner. He can do back handsprings down the field and shit.
