McDonald Says Fans Saw A “C” Performance

August 11th, 2014

Clinton McDonaldThe Bucs’ defensive line was nasty good Friday night, and newcomer defensive tackle Clinton McDonald was right in the middle of it all.

The man with the shiny new Super Bowl ring, however, isn’t where fans should expect him to be.

“I think I played fair. I’d probably say about a “C.” I got a lot to improve on,” McDonald told Joe of his Friday performance. “I’m feeling the getting back into the swing of things of being able to hit a quarterback, and hit opponents and finish on plays and things like that. My play’s got to be more physical, strong and faster, all the things we need to work on to be the physical front we’re going to be here.”

Joe can’t emphasize enough the standard that’s been set on the Bucs’ defensive line.

Lovie Smith already is calling Gerald McCoy the best in the game at his position. Michael Johnson has the pressure squarely on him to record 10+ sacks while setting up farther outside, which is outside the comfort zone he established in Cincinnati. The team passed on Adrian Clayborn’s fifth-year contract option and told him to prove it with Will Gholston breathing down his neck. McDonald must show he can handle a starter’s role after being a part-timer in Seattle.

Yes, Joe’s expecting big things from the Bucs’ D-line. It sure looks like the Bucs will need that unit to lead the entire team.

    if the Bucs d-line was “nasty good” . Does that mean Jags d-line was “nasty great”???

  2. Brandon Says:

    No, it just meant the Bucs Oline was just plain nasty…the bad kind.

    Shouldn’t your name be The_Buc_Pessimist?

    I am hard pressed to ever remember a positive thing you took time to type.

    @Evan,

    At least he didn’t mention Clayborn. That’s an improvement of sorts for him. My advice for you is to just feel sorry for him. Clearly things aren’t too good for him in his life.

    If we can keep everyone scoreless, we would need to evoke a shoot out system like the Lightening.

    @passthebuc,

    If their play continues on the current trajectories, there may be a few scoreless tie games. 🙂

    Seriously though, our D has excellent potential. The Jags offense really didn’t ever do much and we missed several turnover opportunities.

    If the D fixes their mistakes and start getting those take a ways I suspect the Buc’s offense should have plenty of opportunities for game reps to build on. I think they can come together yet.

    Go Bucs!
