Lovie: We Need To Raise That Intensity
August 2nd, 2014Greg Schiano was all about cracking the whip all the time. Schiano’s attitude was that every minute of every day — literally — was critical to winning games.
Lovie Smith is all about timing and patience and teaching and picking his spots.
On Thursday after practice, Bucs head coach Lovie Smith acknowledged that his team didn’t have its greatest day of energy on the field, joking that every day can’t be “your wedding night.” focused practice at the Stadium on Dale Mabry highway was a little lighter than normal, a result of the surroundings.
But laid back Lovie is now expecting more. Speaking to media last night, Lovie said his team will return with a different focus after a day off today.
“Sunday, though, of course next week is game week. We need to raise that intensity,” Lovie said.
Ahh, the phrase “game week” is music to Joe’s ears. The Bucs open the preseason on Friday night in Jacksonville following 2 1/2-hour practices on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Joe’s eager to see what the raised intensity Lovie speaks of looks like. If Joe could be granted one wish, it would be to see a smothering pass rush on display in six short days.

Lovie knows that you can’t keep the accelerator to the floor constantly or you’ll blow the engine.
Games have ebbs and flows, some downs are bigger than others.
Gotta be the same when you’re training.
It takes an experienced coach like Lovie to know when to gear up.
As for Schiano, you can wear out college kids because you have 90 guys on the roster. You have half that in the NFL.

Joe, you should get thrashed by Captain Fear every time that you use the “S” word.

No need to talk the team up for preseason games with roster spots on the line.

I CANT WAIT! GO BUCS!!!

Piratic, what’s the “s” word? Schiano? The man coached this team the past two seasons. Yeah, he’s no longer a Bucs employee but that doesn’t make him irrelevant.

I look for the whole team to raise the roof for some tall accolades come the regular season. Go Bucs!

LOL timing and patience? This is TRAINING CAMP… Wow these players are already taking it lightly. This season is going to be fun. Haha.

Stevie Blart they’re not taking it lightly, haven’t you been following training camp? Everyone’s saying it’s way more intense than last year.
What Lovie’s doing here is simulating game situations, which is very good, because last years bucs simply stopped trying for the last 10 minutes of every game, even if it was extremely close. This should not be the case anymore due to precisely the type of training they’re doing right now.

Stopped trying? Wow you certainly weren’t watching the Bucs last year…
