Jeff Tedford = Artist

July 25th, 2014

The Bucs’ GM explains

Of course nobody knows what the Jeff Tedford Buccaneers offense will look like. The man is an artist. Artists know no bounds. They’re not locked in a traditional box. Their creativity results in free expression that will tantalize, surprise and bewilder.

Joe sort of learned all this from Bucs general manager Jason Licht.

“He’s very innovative. He’s incredibly smart, and he’s got an artists type of mind,” Licht said of his offensive coordinator on WDAE-AM 620Wednesday. “And when I mean artist, I mean NFL as a creative playcaller. And I think what separates him, or what makes him a great coach, is he’s got a great system, but he’s able to adapt his system to fit his personnel. And if you can’t do that, then you’re going to fail. The great coaches are able to change their system to fit their personnel. He’s one of those guys.”

Joe sure hopes Tedford lives up to his billing. He pounded the ball on the ground in college. That stats bear that out, but he also got an awful lot out of his quarterbacks, developing several into first-round draft picks.

The NFL is a different canvas, however, one that is very punishing if one can’t adapt to maximize his available talent. Just ask Mike Sullivan and Greg Olson.

No stacking the box against VJ, ME13, ASJ & Herron…..our running game should get better!!!

  2. Buccfan37 Says:

An artist with a blank canvas. Draw or paint Buc fans up an offense that actually scores more than past artist’s of this nature and we will all be happy to tout your artistic genius.

I don’t need see anything flashy, or HUGE plays all the time. I would just like an offense that keeps the defense guessing. Like the ones that always seem to work (Baltimore, NE, SF..)

I’ll just take first down after first down, putting a stop to these 3 and outs! >(

What a crew we have…. let’s see we’ve got the muscle hampster, the dunkaneers including godzilla, the cannon and now the artist….

I say let Tedford have at it which ever way he wants until they stop you. Let Tedford be innovated, smart and aggressive. Do the unexpected. I’m ready to be entertain way out of the box. Lets use all of our weapons in many different ways. I would not be upset if we go into 40’s in points and double digit sacks per game. Blow up the 2013 square box to the heavens with our Cannons!

Hopefully the offense is great this season and we won’t have any “The artist formally known as”…if he gets fired Joe, you can just call him the Symbol

Excellent quote right there. It’s the main reason why our previous coaches failed, they just couldn’t adapt to their personnel or adapt to the way defenses were playing them. Hopefully Tedford can.

Joe, you are right about how much Tedford ran the ball, but even more interesting then that is the unconventional ways that Tedford used the running game. Should be fun to watch.

    Correct.

I look back on last season when the Bucs had two…TWO!…receiver “threats” of any note: VJ & Wright.

Any wonder why the line was stacked, the running game collapsed, and immense pressure was applied to the passing game?

“The great coaches are able to change their system to fit their personal”. Kind of like Lovie with Darrell Revis one of the very best defensive players in the league.

  10. Buccinfan Says:

    I guess Leslie Frazier isn’t an artist….

  11. Louis Friend Says:

@phil you really think Revis isn’t here because of that?

  12. biff barker Says:

Tedford’s division rival is Sean Payton. We need to score points. Lot’s of them.

My feeling is that Revis is gone because he added very little to the TEAM!! There’s no doubt that as an individual, he is a GREAT corner, but he only accounts for a part of the whole. Richard Sherman is another OUTSTANDING corner in this league, but as outspoken as he is, the Legion of Boom is bigger! Revis Island would have done little to enhance the backfield this year. I’m looking forward to seeing how our backfield gels and says very little verbally, but shows up at game time and lets their ACTIONS create the NO FLY ZONE that we all expected with #24’s arrival …

  15. phil Says:

Not a Lovie fan but I hope he proves me wrong.
