Bucs Cut Nickel Cornerback D.J. Moore
July 22nd, 2014In a surprising announcement late this afternoon, and but two days before he was to report to training camp, Bucs nickel cornerback D.J. Moore was rudely awakened to the business side of football when he was cut to make room for a couple of ham and egg linebackers (if they were unemployed two days before they were supposed to report to camp, how exactly can they be anything more than camp meat?).
The release of Moore is odd, not counting the timing. He played nickel with the Bears under Lovie and was quick to be picked up by Lovie. It sure smells like the Bucs may think Leonard Johnson is the starting nickel with Mike Jenkins and Rashaan Melvin competing with incumbent Johnthan Banks for the other corner spot.
Joe knows the previous administration of former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik thought they had a steal in Melvin, an undrafted free agent. From the talks Joe had with current Bucs types, they tend to agree.

Sorry out of topic, but why do I have this middle eastern language dating girl Ads on every sport website and facebook on right side of the site and left.

Where has your son been surfing? 🙂
July 22nd, 2014 at 6:44 pm
I gotta agree with joe it is what you’ve or anyone searched or visited. I want to buy some parts for my gaming rig and constantly see the parts I viewed, it is a good reminder !!
Oh and there’s the history for your browser. If that’s empty someone purposely did that.

So much for second-guessing Lovie Smith! Of course that happens a lot around. Lol.
July 22nd, 2014 at 6:47 pm
Lovie knows best about potential defensive players.
July 22nd, 2014 at 7:01 pm
Yeah…lovie knows best, but if so then why sign him in the first place? Rutger men vs former Bears.
July 22nd, 2014 at 7:04 pm
I think this is more about gorre imo kids got talent just needs opportunity.
July 22nd, 2014 at 7:05 pm
you all have it wrong lovie clearly did this because he brung in a guy familiar with how the system of a cover 2 is properly ran put him in the film room and had him around the corner to relay the message of what to expect to get them light years ahead of there learning and then cut him because lovie clearly see’s the potential on the roster already.
we never really wanted d.j. moore. so everyone wave goodbye and thank the db tutor for there short visit to the classroom.
only way this guy comes back or re-signs is barring injury….
July 22nd, 2014 at 7:15 pm
Leonard Johnson is such a hard worker. People fail to see it.
July 22nd, 2014 at 7:18 pm
Leonard Johnson the starter, I really hope you are wrong!
July 22nd, 2014 at 7:35 pm
Goes to show not every FA brought in to start is gonna win the job (wink wink)
July 22nd, 2014 at 7:52 pm
The guy who was claimed the starter gets cut right before training camp… Hmmm seems odd to me, mainly the timing of it.
July 22nd, 2014 at 8:04 pm
I guess Joe will now have to add DJ Moore to his list of the worst Bucs of the last 10 years.
Not very good production and didn’t lived up to expectations at all.
July 22nd, 2014 at 8:07 pm
Joe, said Moore was the starting nickel back not love.

Whether I get dating ads or PC hardware ads is none of my concern. But what is my concern is the amount of space used for these ads. The banner that stretches across the bottom of the screen can be irritating at times, but I just try to make the best out of it. Sorry if this sounds like a complaint. I am just giving my feedback.
July 22nd, 2014 at 9:06 pm
@ d-money
lol. He’s about as relevant as Jagz, that’s for sure. Neither of them logged in any meaningful time while with the bucs. smh @ the list.
July 22nd, 2014 at 9:19 pm
As I pointed out in a previous thread Brett Smith is the #1 worst Buc since some JBF posters (who may have gone missing?) went from elation that the Bucs had their franchise QB to denial that Smith was cut and Glennon, McCown were still here, to frustration (since many of the Brett Smith Posse have either ridden off into the sunset with their hero or changed screen names). At least Freeman teased us with moments of potential franchise QB play on game day, but Smith was just one big tease for the BS Posse! 🙂

You never know Eric, he did have Schiano coaching him previously. He could be an all-pro and Schiano could mess it up.
July 22nd, 2014 at 9:32 pm
he got cut for wearing black paint on his nose….lol it didnt mesh well with the new uniforms…lmao
July 22nd, 2014 at 9:39 pm
Kinda felt DJ was a camp body, after his recent injury history. Remember also he did lose his nickel spot, before the Bears decided not to retain his services in a contract year.
Big Ups to the scouting department for leaving no stone unturned. Proud to see we’re looking at more prospects from D2 schools.
July 22nd, 2014 at 10:06 pm
The writing is sort of on the wall for Jenkins if he doesn’t have a big camp. We hear a lot about Gorrer (ugh) and Melvin.
July 22nd, 2014 at 10:38 pm
I don’t see why we can’t find room for a vet of Lovie’s defense at a position that desperately needs competition in favor of some garbage linebacker camp meat. More strange and troubling decisions from the rookie GM.
July 22nd, 2014 at 10:55 pm
Are you really going to question every single move they make? Sheesh…
July 22nd, 2014 at 11:34 pm
If a decision doesn’t make sense then yes I am going to say so. However I don’t dislike all the offseason moves. Just seems like everyone praises everything they do without asking questions. When a player is cut it doesn’t necessarily mean that player isn’t any good. Making lots of moves in free agency isn’t necessarily money well spent. In the words of the great Rumsfeld “…you go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time.”
July 22nd, 2014 at 11:53 pm
Only time I seen anybody paint thur nose like that were tryin’ ta be kitty cats, and I don’t much care for man-kitty cats on my foosball team!

I got a few points here:
1. @ToesOnTheLine I remember that group, but I think we can all agree that they weren’t serious. With that said, nice reference.
2. I think Lovie is smart enough to come up with a defense that Verner, Jenkins, and Banks can play in together. So I think we’ll be fine. Danny Gorrer has some promise.
3. A couple of attempts at humor.
A. *News from the future* “D.J. Moore critical of Dungy’s comments.”
B. Time to update that top 20 list already, Joes.
July 23rd, 2014 at 12:10 am
Disappointing but it speaks more to the confidence Lovie has in his other DB’s stepping up this year in Banks, Jenkins, Gorrer, Carr, Melvin than anything else.

Not really. Only the media assumed he would be a starter. Year after year in the off season we see fans believing their claims (like you for example).
You can’t believe anything in the off season, half the time not even from the team staff.
July 23rd, 2014 at 12:38 am
Bonzai is right, haven’t heard much about him since his signing.

Which is exactly why I’m not convinced McCown is starting. All media driven, realistically handing a 10+ year vet with 0 winning experience in the the keys to the offense and making it no competition is insane.
July 23rd, 2014 at 2:24 am
But they have been handed to him.. and it’s been stated, and done.
Not really media driven broski 😀
July 23rd, 2014 at 2:25 am
Show me where? All Lovie has said was he’s starting in training camp. But nice try 😀
July 23rd, 2014 at 2:42 am
DJ was an interesting pick up. i remember he did a few good things for the bears a few seasons ago. Well, it was crowded anyways, someone had to go soon. I’m curious to see how good Melvin/Carr can do. Speaking of Gorrer, i like him, but if anyone remembers that Eagles game a couple of seasons ago when they came back and beat us in the final min… Gorrer could’ve ended that had he picked that ball off cleanly. But whatever, water under the bridge..

Wanna bet on it!?!?! lol 😛

Injuries.
Poor guy.
May Jah bless his aching heart.

I really hope Leonard Johnson isn’t starting nickel…. The guy was so bad ALL YEAR last year

If he wasn’t going to start, he would not have had such a strong influence on the offensive playbook.
The only question to me is…how long will he start?
July 23rd, 2014 at 12:27 pm
Additionally, Lovie wouldn’t be wasting precious time having McCown take the vast majority of snaps with the first team.
If McCown wasn’t starting, Lovie would be screwing the whole team over by having McCown take 90 percent of the snaps with the first team.
July 23rd, 2014 at 1:33 pm
Such a strong influence? Again, that was media driven. All we’ve heard was he changed a few plays. Who’s to say he changed it in favor of his own personal play or just overall a better play? More example of taking something you’ve heard and running with it.
And PR, I see you found away to avoid an answer. LOL

So it’s a bet than? Ahahaha 😉
