Fullback? Yeah, Bucs Like Fullbacks.
June 3rd, 2014Joe has seen various people come out with their guesses on who the Bucs will keep for the 53-man roster. At this point, in early June, it’s just an educated guess who will be practicing for any NFL team in three months.
Every guesstimate of the Bucs roster Joe has read does not contain a fullback. The Bucs are stocked with running backs but fullbacks? No.
Oh, but don’t be fooled, said Bucs running backs coach Tim Spencer. The Bucs may just keep a fullback. Yeah, really.
And to listening to the words of Spencer, it seems like Jorvorskie Lane may have the inside track of being that coveted fullback.
“It is very important,” Spencer said of the fullback in Jeff Tedford’s offense. “We like a big guy like that in our run game. That guy has to play some special teams. He has to do more than knock people out or catch a flat route. He has to be able to do more things.
“We may have him go out wide and do some things; not anything down the field. But some other things he will have to be able to do. I think Jorvorskie can do that, I just haven’t seen him and Ian Thompson, I just haven’t seen those guys do things like that and we won’t know until they put the pads on.”
See there? The Bucs actually do value a fullback. Now Joe wonders just how many backs the Bucs keep? Four, five, six?
Oddly enough, of all the projections Joe has seen about running backs making the final-53, none have included Olympian Jeff Demps. Not sure if that is an oversight by said authors but if Demps doesn’t get anyone all that worked up outside of One Buc Palace.

I think a lot of us do. I started hating Gruden when he wouldn’t put Mike in. Man, I would yell at the T.V to get Mike rolling. Bastard.

Jorvorskie Lane is a name that ranks up there with D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Barkavious Mingo.

i think mike james and our TEs may man the FB slot at times, making it possible for us to run plays with a guy lined up at FB without actually dressing a pure FB on sundays

Pryor seems destined for a PS spot. Too small for what they are looking for.

James seems perfect for the role.

Lane is an interesting pickup if he has lost the weight and got stronger. He scored like 50 touchdowns in 2 years at Texas A&M I think.
