Mike Evans Pulls Up Lame

May 20th, 2014

A scary sight occurred at Bucs practice this morning about five yards in front of Joe.

It was a roughly 15 yard out route during a 1-on-1 drill with Mike Jenkins covering.

Jenkins soared for an interception, but it wasn’t a great play. The receiver, rookie stud Mike Evans, pulled up holding the back of his left leg just above the knee.

Trainers attended to Evans and his day was done.

Evans stayed on the practice field watching his teammates, so Joe’s hopeful it’s nothing serious.

he’s only 20 years old.. He’ll be fine.

  8. BamBamBuc Says:

Sounds like a hamstring, let the kid rest and it should be fine. Those things tend to linger if not cared for properly.

  9. kryq Says:

Stroud reported he Tweaked his Hamstring nothing serious.

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Nothing serious, but it is the first of many with the team. Every year we see more injuries in Tampa than any of the teams further north.

    Miami has the same issues.

    Relax

Bonzai, not according to Football Outsiders and injury reports correlating to games lost by starters, injury replacements, and situational reserves. Indianapolis and Green Bay have been two teams hit the hardest the past two seasons in their AGL (adjusted games lost) report. Last year, the Giants and Patriots also had significant games lost (or limited) to injury.

In a separate report on NFL.com, the Giants were the hardest hit by injury last year, losing 26 games to starters on the O-line alone and 91 total games lost. Indy and the Patriots were right behind as most injured in that report.

Seems like cold weather teams suffer as many or more injuries than blazing hot weather teams

Wonder if we can trade up for Sammy Watkins now

    Time to release Jenkins

  15. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

It is amazing these guys go almost there whole life (prior to the NFL)without injuries. As soon as they get to the big leaues (and big money) they start coming up “Lame”. SMH

Evans also just did an interview with Jim Rome and he completely bombed the thing. So awkward.

Cramps from the heat. Calm down

  21. Louis Friend Says:

It’ll heal. It’s May. He has 8 weeks before the real stuff starts. Relax.

  22. duthty rhothdes Says:

Evans did say he came into rookie camp last week out of shape so he is still out of shape and going full speed starting and stopping suddenly while out of shape will mess with the muscles, I am guessing he is done for the rest of this mini-camp. Hope he is a hard worker and gets into shape and isn’t a fat bust like the lions Mike Williams who is very similar to Mike Evans in body and stats coming out of college

  23. Willy the Purple Helmeted Warror Says:

@Oar What sage advice and wisdom. You must be from S.C. with that pearl of knowledge. I needed that today^.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    BamBam, that is surprising.

You would think the roster limit would increase by a few spots to compensate.

  25. Luther Says:

The guy is not a great interview…he’s young. I could care less about how he is in an interview. One benefit is he maybe won’t have a players show. He needs to concentrate on his craft anyway.

  26. Josh P Says:

    Better now than in August.

  27. owlykat Says:

He needs to learn the lesson right now. Don’t come to camp out of shape, Rookie! You are a first round draft choice and very valuable to this franchise.
Who does he think he is–our Clemson underachieving DE? This should be minor and hopefully he has learned something he won’t forget next year. If it turns out to be somewhat serious, all we have to do is move Wright into his spot, until he recovers and makes a comeback. Either way no one needs to jump off the Skyway Bridge. The Bucs are loaded with talented WRs now.

Rub some dirt on it and get back out there

  30. rayjay1122 Says:

When are the Bucs going to hit up the Rowdies for some of that magic water that seriously injured soccer players receive that miraculously makes them all better. Really though calm down folks. He will be fine with a little rest. It is still early. Did anyone really think we would get through the preseason injury free? Injuries suck but they happen every year just like taxes.

  31. BamBamBuc Says:

Bonzai, last option I had heard toward roster size is not to actually increase the roster size, but to have the full roster active on Sundays instead of declaring “inactive” players. Not that that would change much of anything. Most inactive players are either injured players or 3rd string QBs, with a few “depth” linemen thrown in. However, I could see the NFL doing that before increasing roster size.

Problem with increasing roster size is the agreement with teams and players that a % of NFL income is spent on player salary every year, hence the salary cap. More players sharing the same % means smaller cuts for everyone. I honestly believe the players union is more likely to shut down a roster increase than the NFL (even though the NFL has stated they don’t want to “water down” the league with increased rosters, meaning lesser talented players make teams rosters)

There go the hate for Evans.

Soft tissue injuries are often related to weakness in the muscle area injured or not warming up. Weaknesses can occur for a variety of reasons, in athletics it is usually due to fatigue, but in most other people it can be actual full-time muscle weakness. If it happened early with Evans I would say it was probably because he was not warmed up yet. Warming up doesn’t/involve stretching the muscles because it puts similar strain on the muscle as would lifting weights (micro-tears). A good warm-up is almost solely successful by increasing core muscle temperature.

What I just stated was scientific fact… but in my opinion, because of the warm Tampa weather, it is much faster to increase core muscle temperature than it would be in a cold weather city and therefore, soft tissue injuries should be lesser in warm weather areas.

This guy is talented but he’s about as bright as a caveman, watching his interviews is like people are pulling teeth to get a response out of him.
