Glennon Vows To Fight
April 8th, 2014The blessed son of the Mike Glennon Mob stood before reporters today at One Buc Palace and was peppered with questions about being a backup quarterback, dethroned by Josh McCown when Lovie Smith signed him.
Glennon vowed to fight for his job and fight for his team.
No. 8 didn’t disagree with reporters who labeled him the backup quarterback out of the gate, and Glennon echoed what Lovie Smith said last month after McCown was signed — that McCown is No. 1 on the depth chart right now.
“That’s not going to stop me from competing,” Glennon said of the “business” of the NFL. Glennon said he spent the offseason throwing with teammates and working on the fine points of his game, such as footwork, and getting “bigger, faster, stronger.”
“All the things that every quarterback in the NFL is working on,” Glennon said.
Glennon wouldn’t go there when asked whether he believed he could win the starting job if he played great through preseason and training camp. Glennon referred that question to Lovie and said Lovie told the team “the best players will play.”
Glennon said he’s eager to learn from Josh McCown and appreciative of the opportunity.
Joe was glad to see Glennon’s fighting spirit. He’ll need it big time after the Bucs draft a quarterback next month.

ha ha. Nice last sentence blast.

How hilarious is it going to be when on May 10th the QBs on the Bucs roster are McCown, Glennon and Kafka? Some people here are going to lose their minds. I think drafting a QB is probably 50/50, leaning towards no. Offensive line, defensive line, more corners, more offensive weapons are all more needed than a QB. Because drafting a QB serves no purpose with a poor line and no weapons.

I feel the better he plays, the higher pick the Bucs get for him. He isn’t playing for the starting role. The Bucs don’t want him. If he plays good, a team will probably offer a pick rather than the Bucs searching. A team will like the fact that he is a bit proven and that he was the best quarterback from last years draft.

Dear Josh Freeman,
THIS is how an adult handles things. Take notes

Go get Em Beeker …
April 8th, 2014 at 2:03 pm
Was MG8 as cut as VJax? Has he been hitting the weights? I agree I don’t see them taking a QB next month. Too many other needs. Sweets out.
April 8th, 2014 at 2:05 pm
UNLESS the Bucs draft the dreaded WR!
Personally I think the whole ‘releasing Mike Willains’ thing was
somehow orchestrated behind the scenes by renegade mob members.
April 8th, 2014 at 2:09 pm
Joe’s hope that the Bucs draft a QB is rooted in his deep jealousy of Mike Glennon’s ability to “pull” while at NC State.
April 8th, 2014 at 2:09 pm
We have not traded this loser yet?
April 8th, 2014 at 2:10 pm
Throwing change ups and his fastball topping the mid 80’s and without daddy Shiano to save his ass… And another young QB on the way from the draft… I’m sorry MG8. You are done!
April 8th, 2014 at 2:15 pm
After all those teams at the top of the draft interview the incoming class of QB’s, I bet there is a strong chance that one of them trades for Glennon. If not he will be a good back for us and down the line could be a solid starter. All things considered he is a asset for this team.
April 8th, 2014 at 2:16 pm
I don’t think he will win the job but how can you not root for this guy. He istaking care of what he can handle and let the coaches figure it out after that.
April 8th, 2014 at 2:28 pm
Agree Joe…that third round QB we draft should make it real competitive around one Buc.
April 8th, 2014 at 2:29 pm
“Dear Josh Freeman,

Perfect comment sir!
April 8th, 2014 at 2:31 pm
I wish Glennon all the success he can handle. I’ll be pulling for you Mike. May the best QB win. I do think the Bucs will bring in another signal caller, either through the draft or otherwise.
April 8th, 2014 at 2:34 pm
McCown, Glennon, Kafka 2014 training camp QB’s. No qb gets selected. Yes I get tired of repeating the same thing, but it looks like every time someone says that they are taking a QB this year, I have to repeat it. I guess that will keep happening until the draft.
April 8th, 2014 at 2:39 pm
I find it racist that certain TYPEs of people hate MG8.
Not odd, not weird… but racist.
April 8th, 2014 at 2:43 pm
LOL @Joe: You sure love to keep posting Glennon’s bald head images don’t you? I know you will say that isn’t your intention, but it likely is. I am anti-Glennon anyways, but thought it was funny.
April 8th, 2014 at 2:44 pm
We are pulling for you MG8, Its nice to know that the Bucs had a QB on the roster that put in work during the off-season. Showed up for events on time, And took his Job seriously.
And for Joe, who does not think that any of this matters, I did see Glennon drink a beer at Gasparilla. Maybe that will put him a notch up in Joe’s book!

Joe says:

^ Just like we HAD TO draft Mo Claibourne?
Hahahaha, no QB is worthy of the #7 selection. 🙂
April 8th, 2014 at 2:44 pm
Mid May, post draft, is going to be blast around here.
April 8th, 2014 at 2:56 pm
Going to LOVE it for all the local “media” if Glennon continues the Buc tradition of QBs going elsewhere and winning a SB ring! I don’t care who the Buc QB is but the piling on is BS. Peyton Manning couldn’t have won with the crap O-Line and idiot OC the Bucs had last year, but that’s OK, Glennon doesn’t pass the eye test so let’s dump him! Enjoy. Just hope they are man enough to say they were wrong if it happens.
April 8th, 2014 at 3:00 pm
As long as the best of the three get the job I am happy. Can anyone in here argue that McCown is not better right now than Freeman was his whole time in Tampa??? Him and McCown. They are already in a better place as a team and the void at WR is only one pick away…
April 8th, 2014 at 3:02 pm
Joe’s a big fan of Freeman…that shows what he knows about QBs
April 8th, 2014 at 3:07 pm
If the Bucs draft a QB and there are any takers they will most likely trade Glennon shortly after the draft. I don’t think he is mobile enough for the system Tedford is going to run.
April 8th, 2014 at 3:20 pm
it’s laughable to read some of comments people make about Glennon, assuming that he will play just like last year, which wasn’t bad given the circumstances. He states in the article he has been working on getting bigger, faster and stronger, improving his passing and I fully expect this work he has put in to be reflected in his play this year, MG8 2.0. I still say as I have in the past he is going to be a good NFL QB and I hope it’s here. But if it’s not another team will reap the benefits of his hard work.
April 8th, 2014 at 3:21 pm
A poor offensive line, a 3rd string RB, 1 WR, no TE, and MG8 still was Rookie of the year. He’s a absolute Pro.
April 8th, 2014 at 3:25 pm
Good hardworking and gritty kid.
Now, draft his replacement so we have a fighting chance.
April 8th, 2014 at 3:28 pm
Don’t really need all the name calling. No class.
April 8th, 2014 at 3:34 pm
I’m pulling for the kid. He’s an overachiever who probably has a very bright future ahead of him. I’m no scout. I can’t look at his play and have a clue what his ceiling is, but I love his heart, and he’s got a decent skill set to start with. I like McCown better, but I don’t envision him being a long-term answer, obviously. I think the long-term solution at QB isn’t currently on our roster, but whether we draft that guy this year or next, I couldn’t say.
April 8th, 2014 at 3:51 pm
Why would the Bucs trade Glennon if he doesn’t start? Use your head folks. He already has more starting experience than McCown. AND, you can never have enough depth at ANY position, especially QB.
One thing is certain at QB; we will have one.
April 8th, 2014 at 3:54 pm
If the Bucs don’t draft a quarterback it’s going to b another long season.

FALSE
He was the QB on the All-Rookie Team. Not Rookie of the Year. I still like the kid. I hope he gets a shot. But I want the Bucs to win and if there is a better QB than MG8 more power to that man.
Jimmy Garoppolo Mob out.
April 8th, 2014 at 4:01 pm
Mr. Glennon,
You are both a gentleman and a scholar. A pleasure to have you on our team. If you stay great, it means you have earned it. If you are traded then you will be a blessing for another team. Keep your character and you will be successful. Refreshing to have a quality person on our team!
April 8th, 2014 at 4:32 pm
I stand to be corrected but I recall Lovie saying they would take 4 QBs to training camp. I have no bias or special affection for any QB on the team. I want the one that starts to win. I don’t think there will be any politics – I think the best QB in the eyes of the coaches will win!
I think Glennon will get every opportunity to win back the starters job or be a trusted back-up. To that end, I wish him the very best and will be okay if he wins. Likewise, I will lose no sleep if he does not!
April 8th, 2014 at 4:40 pm
forget the hurt players he had to work with look at the coaches, that should say it all!
April 8th, 2014 at 5:05 pm
Lovie is the master of misdirection (or BS depending on your perspective) Revis will be a big part of his defense..cut, Mike Williams is a victim…traded, McCown is #1 on the depth chart…Glennon is the starter.
April 8th, 2014 at 6:19 pm
@Macabee
Yes sir, you are correct. 4 QBs in camp is what Lovie said. We will be drafting a QB. The question is what round. My guess is not at #7.
April 8th, 2014 at 6:42 pm
If he’s half as hard-nosed as the guy who drafted him, then this is gonna be an interesting competition to watch.
April 8th, 2014 at 10:01 pm
glue pad glennon is slow, weak-armed, duck throwin qb. we can easily do better in the draft!
