Report: Bucs Hosting WR Louis Murphy

The Bucs are digging deep into the NFL barrel in search of receiving help, so it seems. And that’s what happens when your team spends a fortune in free agency on other positions and relied on Kevin Ogletree, Tiquan Underwood and Chris Owusu six months ago.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is Twittering this afternoon that the Bucs are visiting with veteran wide receiver Louis Murphy, the former Florida Gator who spent three seasons in Oakland before catching 25 passes with Carolina in 2012, and six with the Giants last year.
Joe doesn’t see Murphy as an attractive, dangerous option to become the Bucs’ No. 3 receiver, but he certainly represents an experienced, young (26) body to fight for a roster spot.

We need receiver help/depth, and given the money wrapped up in Jackson and Williams, we’re not likely to go after anyone looking for significantly more than veteran minimum, maybe $2 mil a year.
If there’s little to no guarantees, go ahead and bring him on board.

6’2 200 lbs and a 4.32 40 yd dash…??? I used this guy on Madden and some guys develop later. Give him a chance his measurables are impressive.

6’1” ft 206 lbs 4.48 40 at his combine, Earl Bennett is 26 now and is being released by the Bears soon, now he’d be a good pick up. Formerly a Lovie draft pick and drafted in 3rd round outta Vanderbilt, smart and a solid 3rd rec. I still love Watkins 4.30 40 and would draft him still even if we would sign Bennett. WR would be solidified if we had Bennett and Watkins along with V-Jax and CMG Williams. Or draft DE/DT/LB/OL (best available) then pick up a WR in round 2. We have options at least.

He is no scrub. These are the kind of receivers good teams have for their 4th or 5th option.

The Chicago Bears are going to release Earl Bennett any day now. If the Bucs bring him in, we will sign a WR.

The way I see it is that only Jackson, Williams and Underwood should be permitted in Training Camp. All other spots should be new. And Underwood should only be given a shot, not a roster spot.

They filled a ton of holes with free agents EXCEPT WR…so don’t they HAVE to go WR with that #7 pick??? I.E. Sammy Watkins

I think Tedford is going to employ a run and shoot type offense. Not signing Lorig pretty much summed it up for me, especially since the run and shoot utilizes only the half back. I imagine Tedfords offense to be similar to that of Wayne Fontes/Barry Sanders old offense of the 90’s. There will be a lot of short to intermediate timing throws, with a steady diet of TE and RB bubble screens. They will ask our RB’s to read and react rather than follow a specified run route behind a FB. All the receivers will be asked to find the soft spots relatively close to the line of scrimmage. Most yardage will count on yards after the catch. A somewhat safe type offense as far as passing but does rely heavily on moving the ball in short and precise increments until they lull the defense to sleep and take the occasional passing fly and post routes. I’m guessing there’s at least 10 and probably closer to 20 better receivers than this guy in the draft. Offer him a league minimum deal and that’s it.

I appreciate the fact we have been making improvements to the roster but what really gets me a bit mad is how we are letting all of these big time receivers that were in the free agent market get away from us.. It’s obvious vj can use help and mike Williams has toi much crap going on plus he’s no legit home run threat, he’ll catch a few jump balls here and there but he’s no Julio jones, Steve smith, James jones, aj green, djax or anything like that… Long story short, please get us some more explosiveness at the wr position..

DeSean Jackson’s situation sounds like its getting ugly in Phili. Maybe we could trade for him and still grab a WR. He came from Cal and is definitely a burst of speed, not to mention return duties he could handle. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I’m not saying give a 3rd rounder for him, but we could work something out. Zuttah and a pic maybe?

I agree, but I’m not sure Williams makes it to training camp. I think he has an uphill battle to impress Lovie between now and then (if Lovie hasn’t already made up his mind).
Underwood, I’m hoping, is a late bloomer. He has moments where your jaw drops, and then he has moments where you have your hair firmly in the grasp of both fists , and a foot planted 6″ into the TV..

Why not Lance Moore. He is a great, smart little slot guy and would be a good value vet. Especially coming from New Orleans with some insight on they’re offensive weaknesses. Knows how to get open and plays hard. One of the most underrated slot receivers.
