Official: Derrick Brooks Goes To Canton
February 1st, 2014What a clusterf@ck this has been. Instead of NFL Network broadcasting the official announcment of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2014, live as they have for every winter since the network launched, the announcement is being broadcast on tape on Fox at roughly 8:30 p.m.
Instead, NFL Network is going E! Network with a red carpet preview show with chicks not showing leg talking about some schlock awards show.
Joe just wants to vomit!
But here is the good news from Yahoo! Sports NFL writer and Pro Football Hall of Fame voter Anwar Richardson. It is official. Derrick Brooks will become the third Buccaneers player to enter the Pro Footbal Hall of Fame this summer in Canton. He was elected today in a marathon seven-hour, 59-minute conclave.
@AnwarRichardson: NFL Hall of Fame class: Derrick Brooks, Ray Guy (SR) Claude Humphrey (SR), Walter Jones, Andre Reed, Michael Strahan & Aeneas Williams
Derrick Brooks really was Joe’s favorite Bucs player. Joe still has a No. 55 jersey hanging in the closet. He’s tempted to wear it and go out and have a few beers.
Kudos Derrick. You are the personification of a Hall of Famer, both on and off the field. Congratulations.
NFL Network, you should be ashamed. If you had to farm out the announcement (for profit, Joe might add), at least force FOX to broadcast the announcement live.
What a disgrace to Brooks and the rest of the Class of 2014.

Good News. Now the percentage of Bucs in the Hall of Fame who were great football players and human beings rises to 67%

I’m going to the ceremony this year. I’m just hoping they put the Bucs in the game.
This crap on NFL Network is a joke. First time I’ve been disappointed with NFLN.
February 1st, 2014 at 8:33 pm
Congrats Mr. Brooks. You’ve earned it.
February 1st, 2014 at 8:36 pm
GOOD JOB!
February 1st, 2014 at 8:42 pm
congrats Brooks.
February 1st, 2014 at 8:46 pm
Keuchly named AP Defensive Player of the Year????
What a joke.
February 1st, 2014 at 8:54 pm
Derrick Brooks is one of the best Bucs ever, if not the best overall. He could always be counted on for his ferocious pursuit on the best Bucs defense ever. Congratulations Mr. Brooks, a true Hall of Famer.

Killerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Now I hope they retire his number too. Accept this time I’m getting my cousin to get my Brooks jersey signed. He got invited to Sapp’s number retirement and he told me Sapp would have signed the jersey if I had given it to him. Said Sapp has lightened up a lot these days and was cool as hell with him and his family. So maybe I can get both jerseys signed Sapp and Brooks. Then I’d have to frame the bitches of course. This is soooo awesome!
February 1st, 2014 at 8:55 pm
Class act. Congrats Derrick Brooks!!
February 1st, 2014 at 8:57 pm
Very happy for Sapp. Wish Dungy and Lynch made it but it’s a stretch to believe Bucs could get 3 of 5 spaces in one year.
Absolutely disappointed they went tape-delay. Had my heart set on seeing announcement live.
February 1st, 2014 at 8:57 pm
Meant Brooks, not Sapp
February 1st, 2014 at 8:58 pm
That will happen.
February 1st, 2014 at 9:16 pm
Boom! Goes the dynamite. Yahoo, we’ll deserved baby! His int to seal the Super Bowl win is still the highlight of all Bucs highlights for me. Great man, MrBrooks is.
February 1st, 2014 at 9:27 pm
Congratulations to Mister Derrick Brooks! Best Weakside linebacker to ever play the game!
Also, it is great news that Aeneas Williams was selected. This will help Lynch in the next year or two and Ronde down the line.
February 1st, 2014 at 9:28 pm
Congrats to Derrick Brooks. Great player on and off the field. It really is a damn shame he didn’t get in the same yr or before Sapp. That way the Bucs could have retired his number before that POS Sapp.
February 1st, 2014 at 9:31 pm
FIRE DEM CANNONS!!!!!! Win-win 4 me, he will always be my fav player from DA NOLES and DA BUCS!!! Congrats brother.
February 1st, 2014 at 9:39 pm
Shut Up Eric….Sapp deserved it just as much as Brooks.
February 1st, 2014 at 9:51 pm
Awesome day to be a Bucs fan! I agree with you on all fronts Joe. DB is by far my favourite Bucs player. Just an absolute treat to watch on a football player. I will definitely be rockin’ my Brooks jersey tomorrow, proudly announcing to whomever will listen that, not only one of the best linebackers to play the game, but also one of the best men to grace an NFL field is getting the recognition he deserves! And yes, the NFLN effed that up bad.
February 1st, 2014 at 9:54 pm
Oops, a treat to watch on a football field.
February 1st, 2014 at 10:13 pm
YES!
February 1st, 2014 at 10:23 pm
WOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!
Fuc*ing awesome
February 1st, 2014 at 10:31 pm
Congrats to Derrick Brooks my favorite Buccaneer. Well Deserved.
February 1st, 2014 at 10:43 pm
I agree Joe, the ceremony should have been live. After watching Charles Tillman’s daughter’s story, I truly hope we can find a place on the Bucs team for him!
February 1st, 2014 at 10:49 pm
We are not going to get CB Charles Tillman in FA. Just watched the NFL Honors show. No way is Chicago going to let this guy leave town!
February 1st, 2014 at 10:56 pm
Great day in Tampa Bay.
Nice that his former linebackers coach is in charge at OBP.
All is well and as it should be.
February 1st, 2014 at 10:59 pm
Seriously lame ending to the show though!
February 1st, 2014 at 11:05 pm
Favorite player of all time! Congrats double nickel!
February 1st, 2014 at 11:13 pm
One of the greatest Bucs….Congrats Derrick!!! I hope he has an official place with the Bucs.
February 2nd, 2014 at 12:03 am
No loud mouth punks were elected so NFLN probably thought we would be bored.
February 2nd, 2014 at 12:07 am
My favorite player of all time. I’ll never forget that pic 6 to put the Superbowl on ice. A great football player but an even better human being. Congrats.
February 2nd, 2014 at 12:18 am
Congrats Brooks!
Joe stop whining. It’s really not a big deal. If you dont want to watch the stupid show then don’t watch it. Crying about it isn’t going to make it go away. Intact the actual award show wasn’t too bad. It’s nice having a presentation rather than just reading the nfln news ticker to see who won all the AP awards. The only disgrace here is you talking about all that negative crap in what should be a very special article dedicated to brooks.
Also, keuchly blows. Most undeserving player to ever win defensive player of he year. He’s not even he best player on his own damn team let alone the nfl. So stupid that the hype around keuchly is way more than the actual talent that the guy has. LVD got snubbed again.
February 2nd, 2014 at 12:30 am
It’s called respecting the new Hall of Famers and giving them their just due and honor they richly deserve.
February 2nd, 2014 at 12:43 am
haley got ripped again its bull
February 2nd, 2014 at 1:43 am
I got my sapp jersey signed and wore to Monday night football vs the dolphins and watched them retire 99. I hope this year I get to do it all again except with my favorite buccaneer of all time!!!! Congrats!!!
February 2nd, 2014 at 1:48 am
A special player. The likes of which we may never see again
February 2nd, 2014 at 2:25 am
I watch the awards show for maybe 5 minutes before I changed the channel. Watched a John Wayne movie instead.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:27 am
Watched the Heat stampede the Knicks instead. Glad the news broke before the show. Well deserved Brooks is my favorite NFL player ever!
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:32 am
Well deserved honor Derrick Brooks, congratulations. Derrick not only personified greatness as a player but more so as a man. Truly a man of honer and integrity!!! 🙂
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:06 am
he was my idol since i was a kid, now watching brooks make it to the hall of fame is such a awesome feeling congrats.
February 2nd, 2014 at 12:29 pm
Being on stage to acknowledge their being enshrined is a much greater honor than watching it on TV. IMO. It just sucks as a fan to hear abut it on twitter before you see them announced on stage. The people getting the nod probably give 2 craps about how they find out. They are more excited about being enshrined than anything else. Again, there was no disrespect. Just a new way of doing it. Don’t be the old cranky guy that can’t accept change. we had to accept your site changes so you could rake in more cash. Pot calling the kettle black.
February 2nd, 2014 at 3:03 pm
Thats great. Congratulations. Who’s my favorite player? Mr. Derrick Brooks.
I am not surprised to see Lynch not make it. I hope he eventually does. The NFL has changed from explosive hits taking away the middle of the field. That is now frowned upon. I fear this will continue to hurt John’s chances since that was his specialty. he deserves Canton. Here’s hoping he gets there.
Now, as for Father Dungy. I am surprised to see him left off the list. I expect him to be there very soon.
