No Purging Of Staff… Yet
January 26th, 2014When Team Glazer tabbed Jason Licht as the new Bucs general manager, it was safe to assume there would be — or at least could be — a revolving door of suits and scouts at One Buc Palace, between the old guard who worked for former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik and possible/probable new hires by Licht.
(If reports are to be believed, Bucs director of player personnel Dennis Hickey is in the mix for the general manager’s gig in Miami.)
But hold on to your Bucs cheerleader calendar! Licht isn’t interested in any type of purge of the football staff at One Buc Palace, in large part because of how he was treated by Scott Pioli and Bill Belicheat in New England. Licht explained, while he talked about possibly hiring his own guys last week with the Tampa Bay pen and mic club.
“It is a small fraternity as you know,” Licht said of those who work in NFL football operations. “I don’t know everybody here but I have had some dealing with them whether I have worked with them or been on the road with them at some point. I have an idea, a little bit, but you never know until you have worked with somebody. I will give them the opportunity for them to show me they fit in what we are doing and if I fit for them.
“So, I was part of a holdover (from an outgoing administration to a new regime) when Bill Belichick and Scott Pioli came in and they kept me. We meshed. I ended up getting promoted a couple of times. And if it wasn’t for that opportunity, I may not be here today. So I want to give everybody an opportunity.”
You know what Joe calls that? Fair. No need to be running people out just because you never worked with them. It’s a good chance the next Jason Licht is already working for the Bucs and the real Licht has yet to get to know him and his talents.
This is just smart. No need to unload and rebuild a football staff this close to the draft with the combine less than a month away.

YES! Ding Dong, Hickey is gone. Hired by Dolphins as just reported on Fox Sports 1. Nothing against him personally, sure he’s a good guy, just was the last major common denominator from the last decade of futility!

Dennis Hickey
Never forget this, when a reporter asked Dennis Hickey about WR Dexter Jackson
“We evaluated him and we took him at a position that we felt he deserved,” Hickey said. “That’s where we took him.”
“That is up for you guys to decide,” Hickey said. “It is the ultimate second-guess, right? Let me say this, we are excited about Dexter. A lot of guys want to judge everybody based off their first year. We think Dexter has made a lot of progress and we are excited about him.”
….smh

dolphins confirm hickey hire…

The good thing is that Licht was hired early enough to evaluate staff and make changes before all the action starts. I’m sure there are employees in place that will want to stay and he will want to keep.

We have a capologist named Mike Greenberg. I’m guessing he is the one that will be handling contracts and stuff.
