Lovie Should Improve Sacks
January 2nd, 2014Yes, Gerald McCoy is a stud. After that, well, that’s about it on the Bucs defensive line.
Yes, the Bucs actually improved their sack total last year. No joke. The Bucs actually had seven more sacks in 2013, 35. Still, that ranks them 23rd in the NFL, just slightly better than pathetic.
Interestingly, that 35 sack total and 23rd ranking matches the worst sack production in Lovie Smith’s eight-year tenure with the Bears, his first year. The next three seasons, Lovie got the Bears to raise their game rushing the quarterback to post three straight seasons finishing in the top 10 in the NFL in sacks.
So Joe has hope for the Bucs’ pass rush. A completely healthy Adrian Clayborn along with an emerging Will Gholston should see their output improve, if Joe has to guess. It can’t get much worse than it has been of late.
Oh, yeah, Joe’s pretty confident we have seen the last of the dancing Sheridan Stunts.
Sure would be nice if Team Glazer could somehow get Rod Marinelli out of his contract with the Cowboys.

Well I would assume the D-Line would automatically get better regardless, hell the last 2 years all we did was stupid stunts 90 pecent of the time, or blitz to get sacks, I can’t imagine the production that potentially will come with Lovie at the helm! especially since in this defense scheme, The D-line is required to set the tone.
Go BUCS!!!!!!!! 😀

I think that Tampa has some talented D-Linemen. They haven’t been used properly. We now have a coach that will get the best out of what we have.
This team has some holes to fill, but getting the best out of the players we have may surprise a lot of People.
Feel real good about this hire, and the future of the team.
Welcome home, Coach Smith! And congrats to the Glazers!
I think they hired the best coach available!!

If you are going to play a successful Tampa 2, you HAVE to have a dominant RDE. If he’s not on your roster then you have to go get one

McCoy is our only D-lineman, everyone else has question marks and alot to prove to play in the new Defense

Not a lot of recognition but i think spence was also a good player for us as a rookie. He did a good job of just doing his job. He doesnt exactly help the pass rush but a good player nonetheless.

By the end of training camp and preseason we’ll know exactly who Lovie considers legit from the current crop of d-linemen and who he doesn’t. The only guy guaranteed a starting spot is McCoy. Past that it’s all really speculation on our part.

New scheme could actually set some of the players back in the short term. We’ll all have to wait and see.

This hire has changed a few thing for me. But before I go into it, I want to add a name to the DC options.
Herm Edwards.
I think he would be a better option than even Rod, since with Herm we don’t have Jones raping us.
On GM, I was surprised that the Bucs won’t have the presser until Monday. That’s a full 5 days after the hire. Thinking about it, I wonder if the intended GM or one of the coordinators is playing this weekend.

Oh, and a name for OC…
Norv Turner, who is about to come available.

I’m going to quit ragging on the Lovie Smith hire. I’ve been patient with the Bucs all these years, that will continue. It is easy to get pumped up at the potential of next years team during the off season. I always thought the Bucs will be better next time each year and will continue to think this way.

@Bonzai
We dont agree much but I to would like Norv as OC.

I wonder if the “tilted nose” will be out the door as well?

The one thing I am not going to miss is the incessant blitzing by Sheridans defense . For god sake I think in the last Saints game we blitzed 90 percent of the time Breez dropped back. Thats just like saying ok we cant rush the passer unless we throw extra men at the quarterback. Basically saying we completely suck at rushing the passer. Unfortunately Leonard Johnson on the other end didn’t get the memo that he had to perform at a Pro Bowl level when we blitzed.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! What a bone head move Glazers……..again HHAHAHAHAHHAHH!!!!! Give Lovie Smith total control and no GM? No OFFENSE for you Bucs!!!!
