Lovie “Likes The Foundation”
January 6th, 2014It’s no rebuilding process for new Bucs boss Lovie Smith.
Speaking for the first time as Bucs head coach today, Lovie says he “likes the foundation” in place with the Bucs and says it’s ready for the Bucs “to make a quick climb.”
Lovie said the Bucs will be “relentless” and he wants “athletes at every position.”
Stick with Joe all day for the latest on Lovie’s first public day on the job.

There goes the idea that Revis won’t fit lol
Lovie seemed most animated about him.
And it seems Glennon is going to get his shot after all. With competition I hope.

I just like how there’s a plan and directio n his voice and answers. There’s no uncertainty or where not in a position to do this or that no its we will be prepared and no one will play harder then us period. That’s what I’m talkin bout baby bucball

Sounds like he likes Glennon.

All the Revis nonsense was just that; nonsense. Best player on the team when at his best, lets cut him day one…sorry for the glennon haters sounds like they may give him a year

You can put the trade Revis garbage to bed now. He isn’t going anywhere.
Lovie said good things about Glennon. And he made a point that we will be a power-running team. He thinks a great foundation is already in place. Some fans around here won’t be too happy about this who think you need Manning at QB in order to win.

PRBucfan, I could not tell if I had too much eggnog over the holidays when I kept reading over and over about Revis not being a Lovie guy. I am sooooooo glad Lovie put that to rest! I felt my IQ go down every time I read that stupidity.
I’m hopeful that Lovie will bring this team back to respectability.
Go Bucs!

Perfect! So the team that is already here is the team he can coach up! Sounded to me like he feels there is a lot of talent on the roster. Looking forward to the season

Lovie is absolutely right on. With the foundation built by Greg Schiano, and having the best rookie quarterback selected in last year’s draft in Mike Glennon, this should be a year of marked improvement. Getting a dozen or so of the players back healthy will also make the job that much easier. Kudo’s to Greg and Dominic for their efforts over the past two years.

My takeaway or what assumptions I made from what Lovie said in his presser. (may not be what he actually said) lol.
We will not pick a QB in the 1st round.
We think Mike Glennon has the skills to be a starting QB.
We will play Cover2, but not every snap.
We like Revis and he will fit in our scheme.
We have the nucleus of a win now team/pieces to be added
We would love to see Carl Nicks back on the field.
We will build a 4-3 defense around our 3-technique, Gerald McCoy.
He said a lot of other things but after I heard the above statements, I was so giddy I quit taking notes. Go Bucs, I’m excited again!

George,
I don’t know what you listened to but he said nothing like that about Glennon. He had good things to say about him but he def didn’t say what you just wrote.

Glennon very well could b coached up to do better or maybe he says good things about Glennon as a smoke screen so ppl don’t have us on the radar for a QB . He in no way came out an said anything that says Glennon is the starter or the guy what was he supposed to say Na he cheeks we need a upgrade lol. 200 bucs (u see what I did there) say if he wants it he has to earn it but he will b challenged by a capable starting option. There will b no bs competition like orlovsky where u kno the outcome of the competition b4 it starts. We will draft 1 high n the first round unless we get a viable qb via free agency maybe Josh McCown would like to play for lovie over here or a trade for a Mallet or something but Glennon will not b the opening day stater unless he’s out there throwing Peyton Manning passes (aka lookin very very good) and if that’s the case I have no gripe and I’d b a happy fan to watch him do his thing 🙂 go bucs

Vern,
What I said about Mike Glennon was the fact that he was the best rookie quarterback in football in 2013 by any number of stats that one can look at. Lovie said the foundation is in place—I simply agreed with him.

What I like best about Mike Glennon is that his butt fits on a bench.

If anyone hopes to glean away something profound from this presser, it’s futile. This is coachspeak 101 and nothing more.

@biff
I agree, what else can he say he sucks? he is building around Revis though, Glennon we will see.
