Glennon Talks Johnny Football, Bridgewater
January 18th, 2014Mike Glennon has a cousin working in Delaware radio, so it’s no surprise that the Bucs’ gunslinger took to the airwaves of WDSD-FM this week to chat.
Glennon talked about how confident he is after proving he can perform against the best defenses in the world and, of course, Glennon shared his admiration of guys he might compete with this spring, Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater.
“I think, obviously, Johnny Football is a tremendous talent and will sell tickets immediately,” Glennon said. “Anyplace he goes, fans are going to want to go see him play. It will just be interesting to see how if his speed can translate into the NFL. I know I thought the same thing about Russell Wilson; I didn’t know if his speed was going to be able to translate into the NFL, which it did.”
“I’ve been impressed with [Teddy] Bridgewater from what I’ve seen. He’s really just kind of calm, his demeanor, never seems to get rattled, makes some good throws.”
Glennon went on to say the career of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron shouldn’t be ignored because it always takes a great QB to succeed, even with a stellar supporting cast.
As for Glennon’s current plans, he finished up “two weeks off” away from football and is busy back in the weight room and watching film of himself and quarterbacks around the NFL. Glennon said he’ll be living year-round in Tampa.
Joe thinks it’s pretty cool that Glennon was happy to talk about college quarterbacks he might be competing with in a matter of days.

hmmmm a quarterback that wants to live in Tampa and work in the off-season to get better. Haven’t seen that the last 5 plus years.
Actually, Freeman has always been full-time in Tampa, led and organized the team during lockout workouts, and was a fixture practicing with his receivers at local high schools and fields in South Tampa for several offseasons. He also played soccer with Tampa clubs to get fit. Freeman bought a house in Tampa years ago and lived there for years with fellow family members. Anything else is just not accurate. –Joe

Glennon knows the heat is on, that though he showed potential, someone is coming after his QB job. I wish him success and may the best man win out.
January 18th, 2014 at 3:16 pm
Just the idea of competition is working on Glennon. Good… I still want a flashy QB though.
January 18th, 2014 at 3:17 pm
fierce competition and professional coaching only means good things for us Buc fans… I like Glennon but not Sold just yet. I think we end up with Carr based on the history Tedford has with his family and Carr personally. The $2 question is can Carr unseat Glennon. I will be extremely disappointed if we give away the farm to trade up as I do not believe any of the QB’s coming our a sure thing nor do I believe Clowney is worth giving away picks for. Talent and Skill is one thing but taking plays off is a HUGE red flag long-term
January 18th, 2014 at 3:52 pm
LOL Joe nice picture. It looks like a dad picking up his little, little, little kid.
January 18th, 2014 at 3:59 pm
His bio says he’s 6-1. I highly doubt that. I’m 6 foot and there is no way in hell Manziel is taller than me.
January 18th, 2014 at 4:06 pm
ROTFLOL @ myself! At first glance, I thought it was a Manziel doll that was now in toy stores everywhere!
January 18th, 2014 at 4:07 pm
One of these guys will fall. Matthews, Clowney(I doubt) ,Watkins might be there ,johnny but I think browns or raiders take him , I’m not sold on bottles that high maybe in the second If he drops
And highly doubt bridewater gets past top five if he does take him
January 18th, 2014 at 4:15 pm
Hah! The_Buc_Realist got served!
I am so thankful Joe is around to set these history revisionists right.
January 18th, 2014 at 4:38 pm
Whatever else people say about Glennon, he is a classy guy. As far as Johnny Football, I have a gut instinct feeling that he’s not going to be the stud in the NFL that some think.
January 18th, 2014 at 4:53 pm
Maybe glennon went to the manning camp under johnny football’s group haha maybe hes peyton manning ( the Sherrof) 2.0
January 18th, 2014 at 4:57 pm
Happily there is no way Lovie will be stupid enough to mortgage the Bucs future for a QB in the face of so many needs.
Joe, explain to me what rookie QB is going to come in and be better than Brees, Ryan, and Newton the first year. Better than any of them for that matter.

Gotta love it lol
January 18th, 2014 at 5:19 pm
I like Glennon’s confidence wihout being cocky….You can best believe that if Mike Glennon had to ride the bench, he would take it like a Pro and not whine and act entitled.
Glennon will make any other QB better because he will provide great backup and competition and if he wins the job…more power to him.
January 18th, 2014 at 5:28 pm
Lol reminds me of an old Super Bowl commercial where Peyton Manning was a backyard toy fueled by Gatorade….except this one’s Johnny Football sized!!
January 18th, 2014 at 5:39 pm
Glennon is the next Brady
January 18th, 2014 at 6:03 pm
Joe, plz erase my previous comment bcuz I feel bad for Free & I don’t want to disrespect him. I’m honestly just angry & bitter that let drug use ruin his potentially great career here. Hopefully, one day he can get off the drugs & put his life back together.
January 18th, 2014 at 6:07 pm
Of course Glennon would ride the bench like a pro. It’s what he’s going to do for the next 4+ years.
January 18th, 2014 at 6:20 pm
Watching the East-West Shrine game and I can tell you that I agree with Joe. Garoppolo is a player. I would be quite happy if the Bucs found a way to draft that guy.
January 18th, 2014 at 6:27 pm
Garappollo is a stud
January 18th, 2014 at 6:45 pm
Hesson- yeah, me too. At one point- that kid had the Talent, Skills, and Work ethic to be a top notch QB
I don’t know what ruined him. Only have heard rumors. But his rapid deterioration certainly looks similar to people I have known in the past, who’s lives and future were thrown away over substances.
Damn shame. But we have become a society that excuses being non productive, in order to be self indulgent.
Until we start being willing to hurt peoples feelings- and requiring accountability- it will only get worse.
There are lots of people- who are some busy getting high, that they don’t have time to work and support themselves. And since it has been declared a sickness, they take our money in taxes, and feed and support these folks.
Not much incentive to quit enjoying yourself!
Sorry for the Rant. Just seen so many self destruct. And it seemed like the free good and housing just encouraged them to keep using.
It appears to have ruined a good young player here.
January 18th, 2014 at 6:48 pm
We found a good O Line Coach.
Looking more and more like Alex Mack could become our new center 😀
January 18th, 2014 at 7:44 pm
Garappollo got to be shooting up the draft boards, likely moved from a 3-4 round to 2-3 from 10th to 6-8th best. Short motion, really smart reminds me of Brees or Romo playing style but looks like David Carr.
January 18th, 2014 at 8:05 pm
I’m rooting for Glennon. Like Josh he is doing all the right things early in his career. He was the best rookie QB in the league with arguably the worst supporting class. He had a te converted from a WR, no slot receiver and a patch work offensive line. Is he flashy? No. Can he win a game by himself? No. Does he manage the game well and improved over the year? Yes. I don’t want to write this kid off yet. Give him competition and see what he can do in year two.
January 18th, 2014 at 8:31 pm
BucPuck
Totally agree, writing Glennon off is totally premature. Lets get the oline fixed, a speedy WR, better play calling and QB coaching then we can truly find out how good Glennon can be, I think he can be quite good. Getting a QB in rnd 2 or later is fine, we need an upgrade over DanO anyways and if he provides immediate competition for Glennon that’s great as well. Like what I’ve seen so far in how everything is being put together.
January 18th, 2014 at 8:31 pm
Joe your full of shiiiiit and a liar
January 18th, 2014 at 8:43 pm
Thems fighten wurds right thur…
January 18th, 2014 at 9:13 pm
Freemen could of been a Great qb with quality coaching
January 18th, 2014 at 9:26 pm
I really don’t think they are going QB in the first round. They aren’t building for an impact offense, they don’t need a flashy QB just a steady one and they got one in Glennon. Save the pick and go DE!
January 18th, 2014 at 9:31 pm
On the contrary
Tedford’s offenses are high impact.
Why do you think Lovie went and found him
January 18th, 2014 at 9:39 pm
and we spent 1st and 2nd rounders on dends. only spent a 3rd in a weak qb class on qb. need another young gun.
January 18th, 2014 at 11:01 pm
3rd round is gone Revis trade
January 18th, 2014 at 11:02 pm
He was talking about last years 3rd rounder, Glennon
January 18th, 2014 at 11:24 pm
Think Glennon has shown enough, to earn another look.
He showed poise, accuracy, and composure.
And intelligence.
With Schianos schemes, especially early in the year, it was hard to throw, when your only two targets were in double coverage.
As the offense finally evolved, Glennon became more productive.
And you can’t teach Brains.
I’m not saying we don’t need another QB. But I am saying that Lovie and Tedford need to make a good evaluation of what they have, before going “do or Die” for a new QB.
Some many needs- it would be nice to address some of them, instead of QB first and foremost.
January 18th, 2014 at 11:56 pm
I believe you can take a talented QB, put him under a really bad offensive coordinator and see him regress. Take a below average QB and put him with a good OC see him improve. OC’s are half the offense unless your Peyton Manning. I don’t want Freeman back but I do think he got screwed. I would like to see what Glennon can do with this OC, but still draft a QB in the first round to play it safe.
January 19th, 2014 at 1:31 am
Brady vs. Wilson in the SB (bleh, I really wanted Peyton to win too….and I hate Sherman…but happy for Bennett)
freefree is gone…that I saw coming from a mile away (got into many heated arguments about it, lol, fun fun fun)
Schiano and Dom are gone…saw that coming too, was worried though that the Glazers would miss what MANY of us were seeing.

If you want to hear the full interview with Mike Glennon check it out http://www.1290theticket.com/pages/qbr.html
January 19th, 2014 at 1:29 pm
Joe we need to stop talking JF. Jimmy Garrapolo just fits like a glove in Tedfords system. I’ve liked him for a while. Now he comes in with the bigger and better prospects and just amazes.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:47 pm
and I was wrong about Br@dy…whoop whoop (glad too, Im pulling for Manning)
now hopefully Im wrong about Wilson.
