Finally! Revis Declares Knee Is “100 Percent”
January 25th, 2014It’s the declaration Bucs fans have been waiting for. Finally, five weeks after telling Tampa Bay media that his surgically-repaired knee still wasn’t quite perfect, Darrelle Revis told JoeBucsFan.com yesterday that his knee is “100 percent.”
After Friday’s Pro Bowl practice in Hawaii, Revis was asked, as he’s been many times before, to put a number on his knee health.
JoeBucsFan.com: What percentage is your knee at right now?
Darrelle Revis: I’m 100 percent, man. I feel real great. You know, through the course of the year it got stronger week to week. And I’m just trying to continue to improve and get back to where I used to play great ball.
JoeBucsFan.com: So next year Bucs fans can expect an even better Darrelle Revis?
Revis: Yes they can. Yes they can.
This is great news. Four weeks of postseason rest and rehab have put Revis fully in the healthy zone.
Shortly after the Bucs will break their final minicamp in June, Revis then plans to make his annual trek to Arizona for what he told Joe is an extreme preparation regimen — in extreme heat — for training camp.
Multiple times, Greg Schiano referenced Revis’ annual offseason work to be “legendary.” Speaking to Joe in December, Revis said he wouldn’t go that far but said, “it’s not for everybody. I take it extremely seriously so I can be ready to win games in late January and February. You know, that’s the whole point.”
Stick with Joe through the weekend for more out of Pro Bowl week in Hawaii, including video of the Revis interview and more.

When does he announce his hold out??????????
January 25th, 2014 at 10:52 am
Sounds like Simone wants to keep that 16 million dollar a year salary lol
January 25th, 2014 at 10:54 am
Revis has $16,000,000 reasons to declare himself 100%…..but, you know….I still believe him…there is something about Revis that I trust.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:55 am
Sounds like someone wants to keep that 16 million dollar a year salary lol

“Four months of postseason rest and rehab…”
Arre you counting last year as well? Just wondering how i has been 4 months? 4 weeks maybe.
January 25th, 2014 at 11:00 am
Sounds like someone didn’t care for the way the last coach went about business and wasn’t about to reinjure himself in some wacky scheme. I’ll bet he has way more respect for Smith than he did for Shiano and his play on the field will reflect that.

He has been no trouble while here, so what’s with the hate? You sound like a fan of his former team.

Well that’s good news. I have a hunch he’s pumped about Lovie.
Also, given the nature of his contract $$$$…and the nature of our “probable” main defensive scheme, I don’t think he would have the leverage to hold out. Hell, he’s one of the best in football, but if he turns into a pain in the ass – I could see him getting cut and freeing up the salary cap room for two good FA corners. Again, not much leverage if he wants to stay on THIS team. I have a hunch he’s pumped about Lovie.

Hey Joe,
Are you in the EST zone? If so your forum time stamps are off. Just a heads up.
January 25th, 2014 at 11:17 am
To be honest, Schiano was right when he declared that an 80% healthy Revis is better than most CBs in the league. If he was never 100% last year, dude was still an incredibly good corner for us. CAN’T WAIT to see what how our secondary will feed off of a killer pass rush next season (crossing my fingers for either Allen, Peppers, or Hardy)…
January 25th, 2014 at 11:26 am
Great, now don’t get hurt in the frickin’ Pro Bowl.
January 25th, 2014 at 11:27 am
Can we stop referencing Schiano?
January 25th, 2014 at 11:27 am
I love Revis. I love his attitude, how he carries himself, that he is classy (polar opposite of bragging Richard Sherman).
January 25th, 2014 at 11:28 am
That picture is missing Lavonte David.
January 25th, 2014 at 11:33 am
Revis….hold out….for what?….more money?
I could see us trying to trade some salary for guarantees on a contract longer that 1 year intervals….but I don’t think Revis would do that…I think he knows we will keep him regardless.
January 25th, 2014 at 11:44 am
Good to hear he’s better. We could see his play improve as the season went on, probably why he started the season playing a lot of zone (hide the fact he wasn’t 100% yet but still make opposing teams game plan for him being 100%) and got eased into some more man to man coverages later on. I don’t see the guy sticking with the Bucs beyond another season or two but will enjoy his play while the Bucs have him.

top 5 defense on its way!
you can take that to the bank!
January 25th, 2014 at 12:09 pm
Joe, I don’t understand where some people are coming from, Revis has always been a complete professional and a leader so what’s with the hold out, this is a business and he receives 16M a year with no guarantee rather than less with a guarantee, the team is protected if something happens to him or he doesn’t play to what they want, he is betting that he is as good as he thinks so he gets more each year than he would.
January 25th, 2014 at 12:12 pm
Those are great words to hear finally coming from him. I’m anxious to see how Lovie and Frazier utilize his skills in this defense. I’m hoping it turns into career year.

“Are you in the EST zone? ”
Per a post a few down from this one, the Joes are in Hawaii, covering the Pro Bowl. If you care, check the posting time against Honolulu time…don’t care myself.
Joes, if you need to dil in some time, a scuba/snorkel with Manta Rays is a great one. Best 45 Mins of any of the the 4 trips I’ve made to the big island, ever. Bet Oahu has them, too. ‘Course not for those afraid of the dark, it’s at night, with lights to attract the rays, but awesome, nonetheless.

dil wuz spose to be kill…sorry
January 25th, 2014 at 12:38 pm
@NY Buc said, We could see his play improve as the season went on
What Revis were you watching? In fact as the season was coming to a close he got burned quite often. Teams wouldn’t challenge him at the beginning because of his reputation and the fact was there were other weaknesses to exploit in our secondary but once they realized that he wasn’t really the same, he got burned badly and often toward the end.
In fact after being badly embarrassed for a TD, (I think against the Saints) he took himself out of the game. Hurt pride. He should have never made the probowl, and it’s ironic he’s 100 percent on the eve of the probowl, instead of rehabbing that knee and giving an alternate a chance to play. I hope he plays better next year because at a million dollars a game he should be like superman.

Those jerseys are hidious. Do they expect people to buy pro bowl jerseys that are that atrocious? I’m no fashion connoisseur but that’s terrinle

Jerseys look good to “Tarheel Fans”….

Just because a player has held out in the past, doesn’t mean that he’s liable to hold out again now. He held out, he got paid, and now he’s getting paid to be the best corner in the NFL. What exactly would he hold out for? Guarantees in his contract? All he has to do is be Revis on gameday and he takes home plenty. He held out in the past when dealing with rookie contract issues, this isn’t a problem now.
Put it this way – if you started a career selling cameras and you signed a 4 year deal making what other new people make, but by the end of the first year you were selling as many cameras as the top paid guys, you’d want a fair renegotiation, right? Especially important to note is that the NFL is a violent sport and careers are fickle. Thankfully Revis is now 100% fully recovered, but I just don’t understand why people think he would holdout. Unless they’re just being a smarta$$…
January 25th, 2014 at 12:50 pm
Revis has been nothing less than a consummate professional since landing in Tampa. He’s a leader too. Bank on the new regime will embracing him.
January 25th, 2014 at 1:04 pm
@Fritz – Joe actually said he’s not in Hawaii, just has reporters there.
January 25th, 2014 at 1:50 pm
GO REVIS next year is ours go bucs.
January 25th, 2014 at 1:59 pm
I cant wait to see Revis at 100%….he’s is a complete corner; not only is he a smart player, he’s a technician in coverage, a great tackler, a play-maker with excellent ball skills, etc etc etc…Lovie and Frazier have to be salivating right now…
Imho, this Bucs defense in general arguably has better all around “talent” than Lovies Bears did…with studs like McCoy, David, Revis, and Goldson leading the charge and solid/promising players like Foster, Barron, and Banks this defense has the potential to be top5 next year and for years to come…
The DE position is still the missing piece to the puzzle for this defense…point blank, we need to find our Simeon…I think Clowney would be a perfect fit and for that reason he’s the OnLy! player in this draft I’d be totally ok with us trading picks to move up to get…
I cant wait to see Lovie put his stamp on this defense…
January 25th, 2014 at 2:13 pm
Bruno and Fritz…the times have been 1 hour off for about 3 months now.
January 25th, 2014 at 2:35 pm
Having revis is good but I wouldn’t have made that deal- i can’t hate it but just wouldn’t have done it- would have drafted Sheldon Richardson and signed grimes
January 25th, 2014 at 3:09 pm
Our “D” is gonna be fun to watch next season, it’s feeling more and more like the days of glory……GO BUCS
January 25th, 2014 at 4:17 pm
Oddly enough there are only like two on this roster that know what it’s like to play in late January and February which is why that statement seems overlooked, revis and goldson, their gonna have to step up their play from last year for us to go deep in the playoffs but if we can upgrade the pass rush and depth then revis should be #1 corner in the league again with a top defense……how does a corner that plays in a zone defense become the best anyway? He keeps saying it that’s how
