Bucs Must Target A No. 3

January 8th, 2014

Xs and Os guru and former Bucs tight end Dave Moore didn’t hesitate to identify a necessary fix for the woeful Bucs offense today during an interview on WDAE-AM 620.

Offensive line and quarterback weren’t the calls.

“If you’re going to be a team that wants to move the ball on third down, if you look at any of the good offenses, you need that No. 3 guy. What I mean is the guy that’s in the slot, the guy that was the Ike Hilliard guy here. When you have a 3rd-and-5 and teams like to blitz, you get a little guy that’s a shifty guy that gets man-to-man coverage and he has an option. He can go up five yards and turn in, turn out, do a little angle route. You need a guy that’s good in space,” Moore said.

“And he doesn’t need to be that first-round guy. Because when you get that smaller — he doesn’t have to be smaller –but he has to be a very shifty receiver and smart to be on the same page as the quarterback. That’s the guy I think where you had those 3rd-and-3 to 3rd-and-7, where you didn’t have somebody who could get open quickly.

“Tim Wright filled that role at times. But if you can get a guy to do that where you can get in spread, and put everybody out, have no tight ends tight to the line, have everybody out in space, so that the defense, if they’re going to blitz, it’s going to be easy for the quarterback to identify what they’re doing and then have a guy that can get open in that man-to-man in the slot. Because there’s so much space on the inside to be able to do that.”

Moore went on to say the Bucs may not be able to find a quarterback this offseason who is better than Mike Glennon. But there is much unknown swirling around Glennon, Moore said, because it’s unclear what Glennon was permitted to do and whether he was allowed to change playcalls at the line of scrimmage.

Of course, Joe agrees that the Bucs need a slot-receiving threat. That was arguably the greatest failure of the Dominik-Schiano 2013 offseason.

Former Cowboys receiver Kevin Ogletree was handpicked for the job at the recommendation of former Bucs and Cowboys receivers coach John Garrett. But Ogletree couldn’t catch the ball. He seemed allergic to half of what sleepy, leaky Josh Freeman threw his way. And the Bucs had no depth at the position.

Whoever the QB is, the Bucs need to add a couple of solid receivers who can play in the slot.

  1. KMAC1322 Says:

Sammy Watkins if he falls to us, I doubt he will but he would be perfect, could also snatch up Mike Evans from Texas AM and use him or Mike Williams in the slot…A lot of talent at the skill positions in this draft lets hope we dont pass on future big time playmakers again!

  2. Derick Says:

I think Underwood could be a good slot guy.

  3. JeffNYC Says:

Watkins is my first choice. This guy is a great route runner and dynamic playmaker that doubles as a KR/PR, which we haven’t had in years. Not often you can grab a guy that’ll have a strong impact on both your O and ST. If not Watkins, DE/LB.

  4. Bucfan66 Says:

The title should read: “Bucs must target a No.1”

Vincent Jackson is on the wrong side on 30 and does not have elite speed. Mike Williams will, at best, always be a number 2 receiver in this league but I can see him transitioning into the slot receiver that we’ve been missing so much.

All that’s left is to draft Sammy Watkins at #7 and this offense will reach new heights.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If Watkins falls to us I would take him. Also Devin Hester is a FA & I think he would fit very nicely.

  6. flmike Says:

Devin Hester is NOT a WR, Lovie went down that road already and it was a major part of his undoing in Chitown…

  7. Bucfan66 Says:

    You read my mind KMAC…lol

Hopefully Watkins is still available at #7.

  8. deminion Says:

Draft Sammy Watkins if available… He fits the bill…. So can there be a Sammy Watkins mob?

  9. Patrick in VA Says:

I’ve seen mocks with Watkins going to us at #7. Of course, mocks are generally a waste of time but there are scenarios where it could happen. I’d be stoked to see one of them happen where he does fall to us. Either way, there are plenty of difference makers available at #7

  10. Patrick in VA Says:

“because it’s unclear what Glennon was permitted to do and whether he was allowed to change playcalls at the line of scrimmage”

Schiano refused to adjust the game plan when he clearly saw that the hurry up offense was working and chose instead to go with what was practiced even though it meant we would lose the game. There’s no way Glennon was allowed to even think about adjusting a play at the line. Glennon did what Schiano told him to do.

  11. Clowney Says:

I watched Watkins dominate in his bowl game. He was clearly the best athlete on the field.

Too bad the previous administration screwed up this team so badly that we would have to pass on this incredible talent.

Last year, fans were campaigning for Tavon Austin, who was really a small piece of the puzzle. Sammy Watkins is the real deal. A Julio Jones type of athlete.

The Falcons had to give up a large portion of their draft picks for Jones and it showed when he went down for a season ending injury.

Watkins will be available at #7 and if Clowney is gone, I would support that pick, even though Taylor Lewan would still be on the board. It would be a dramatic statement from a defensive minded HC.

Mike Williams would be a great #3.

One caveat, wasn’t that the downfall of Matt Millen and the Detroit Lions, drafting WR’s with the 1st pick?

  12. Que589 Says:

We need a #2 receiver. Mike Williams is a #3 receiver.

  13. Lev Says:

Someone please watch Emmanuel Sander’s highlights. He exactly what we need plus he is a beast returner.

  14. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

They badly need a speed receiver with hands.

  15. QB Says:

You guys want to draft a WR at #7 and put him in the slot on 3rd downs? How about a DE or a Guard? Nick’s career is probably over after 9 games as a Buc.

  16. QB Says:

No rookie WR is going to beat out V-Jax or Mike Williams. Those are huge proven NFL talents.

  17. ROBERT6 Says:

I fund it funny that we always hear “draft a top WR” by different teams etc.

when fact is Brady & NE, NO & Brees, Manning etc……3 of about 1/2 dozen teams with either a great QB or a great OC/play caller…….THEY CONSISTENTLY MAKE NO NAME WR’S INTO HOUSEHOLD NAMES!. and when that WR moves on he usually fails.

Not saying we should not get one….just saying the OC and QB make the WR in most cases. excluding freaks like CJ….

we need a FEARESS playcaller. look what NE does each week. one week it’s a WR, the next it’s a RB…depending on the matchup

  18. ander Says:

if watkins is available they better take him and let glennon run this offense, everybody is hating on glennon like he had weapons when the guy only had jackson and an undrafted te who is devoloping and just learning that position. underwood is a 4th string wide receiver in any other team in the nfl, their is a reason why nobody gave him a chance once tampa released him. the o line was flatly inconsistent and the running game wasnt good enough. glennon, williams, jackson, and watkins ill take it. go bucs

  19. joseph mamma Says:

If it wasn’t for that whole ‘catching the ball thing,’ that slot receivers do, D. Hester would be perfect.

  20. Couch Fan Says:

If you think Watkins would only be used on 3rd downs, you are sadly mistaken. Any O-Coord worth a damn should be able to get that guy on the field for at least 75% of snaps and ST.

I’m also so sick of picking defense in the 1st round every year. Stop neglecting the offense please!! We can’t win if we dont score points!!

  21. Bucfan66 Says:

VJ and MW might be proven talents but look at guys like Julio Jones and AJ Green. They were still damn good receivers in their rookie seasons. And got that much better in their second season.

Watkins would be a great pick for this team going forward and will be able to contribute immediately.

  22. Bucfan66 Says:

    @Clowney

Matt Millen also picked Calvin Johnson.

  23. lurker Says:

I say qb first, then Watkins, if no qb left

  24. mark2001 Says:

Yes…I’ve said we need to come out of his draft with a couple of receivers. As I said, if you look at the potent offenses, like the Packers, you have to have at least 4 good receivers…Nelson, Jones, Cobb, and a couple of talented new guys. We have Jackson and Williams. That isn’t nearly good enough.

  25. Eric Says:

We have never had much luck with a wide out as our first round pick. (Green, Anthony)

Then again never had any luck picking a QB either, except Doug. (Vinnie, Trent, Josh).

I am predicting after the combine Johnny Football will be the number one pick. Off the charts in drills and the tests.

I’m willing to wager if Lovie could pick anyone it would be Clowney. Real athletic specimen there for sure. Might trade up to get him. Put him on the line with Gerald, oh my.

My rank speculation for the day.

  26. lurker Says:

but the qb makes meh receivers good…as stated above.

  27. TBFan Says:

Guy Bucs should look for in the later rounds is Dri Archer. Guy is deadly when in open space and is versatile.

  28. Couch Fan Says:

A rookie QB doesnt. Especially if he is playing behind a bad O-line. Some of you have unrealistic expectations for rookie QBs. None of them are going to play like Manning or Brady or Wilson.

  29. Couch Fan Says:

A rookie QB doesnt. Especially if he is playing behind a bad O-Line Some of you have unrealistic expectations for rookie QBs.

I can see now were going to need to draft a QB every year because nobody is going to meet your expectations.

  30. d-money Says:

For all you guys who want them to draft Watkins… all i have to say is…keep dreaming.

They already have a bunch of money tied up in VJax and Williams. Couple that with the fact that you can get a good slot reciever in the later rounds and Lovie is a defensive minded coach. There isn’t a snowballs chance in hell that they will draft a reciever with the first round pick.

The only way that pick is used on offense will be if a stud O-lineman is available. Otherwise it will be D-line or used to trade down and pick up more picks.

Not saying that’s what i would like to see just that it’s most likely the way it will go.

  31. GO Noles! Says:

Couch fan and Ander have it right…Watkins will be able to fill a roll as an offensive weapon (not just a #3 WR). We have neglected the offense for far to long and I believe we can shore up the few needs we have on defense in FA. By the time Watkins is ready for a #1 WR roll it will be time to say good buy to VJack (but not anytime soon). This pick would give us one of the top line ups of WR in the NFL and with the emerging TE Tim Wright and hopefully us adding another TE we would be a force to deal with. Then we will truly see what Glennon has to offer (I am pulling for him).

  32. Mike J Says:

Lordy, it’s early for a discussion like this!! But it’s fun.

I like Watkins too; the game is all about playmakers nowadays. If the Bucs go defense at 7, I also like Odell Beckham, rd. 2. (& in addition, I like Zach Mettenberger rd. 2.)

  33. Meh Says:

There I’d support Watkins if he were BPA when we pick. I’d prefer a top QB or Clowney, but I don’t think any of them will fall to us. If I had to guess I’d mock the first 6 pick something like this:

    1. Bridgewater
    2. Matthews
    3. Bortles
    4. Manziel
    5. Clowney
    6. Barr

At this point I’m probably looking at Watkins and Kahlil Mack as the BPA on offense and defense (imo of course). I really like Mack, but I think I take Watkins in this scenario.

Of course, this is before the combine, pro days, interviews, trades, etc…

  34. Jonny 2.3 Says:

What is with this talk of Williams being a #3 receiver? MW is just fine, if not awesome as an outside the numbers receiver. He is great at making those tough contested catches. Now Watkins is in no way inferior to Mike, but our offense would be best served with Watkins at slot where he can make the best use of his YAC ability in space.

  35. Kevin Says:

Lovie needs to Sign Josh McCown come Free agency. He dominated in a complex offense in his first year playing with it. The bears cannot lock him up before he hits the market and he would be a ready to start seasoned veteran QB that can get us to the playoffs. Would also be a good way for Lovie to stick it to the bears. The guy was playing phenomenal when he filled in for Cutler. I would get Mccown, draft a QB and have a three man competition for the starting job. It’s a lot to put into one position but one of those three guys will make it happen. Can’t be a bad situation.

  36. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Hey, Joe, I doubt you care but Johnny Manziel filed his early entry paperwork for NFL Draft.

    😉

  37. NJBucsFan Says:

I wouldnt hold too much faith in Mike Williams Returning to full form, I tore my hamstring playing tight end in college when I was 20 years old and had to have it surgically repaired.

It was never the same after and to this day at 30 years old I can feel it start to pull even when I swing a bat playing slow pitch softball.

Unfortunately even the most minor hamstring pulls linger… nevermind a tear!

  38. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Watkins may fall to 7….and that would be a great pick….so would Barr or Mack.
Some mocks have Carr falling behind us.

This isn’t very sexy…but we could trade down (we have several needs)….depending on our partner, we could still pick up Ebron or Adams later in the first……
There are plenty of FA WRs available that could be a 3rd WR
    for us.
Hester, Jacoby Jones, Maclin, McCluster, Ginn, Tate & many more.
I do like getting younger at WR & O-line with our top pick.

  39. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

CBS Sports lists the top ten prospects as
    Jake Matthews OT
    Jadeveon Clowney DE
    Teddy Bridgewater QB
    Greg Robinson OT
    Sammy Watkins WR
    Blake Bortles QB
    Anthony Barr OLB
    Darqueze Dennard CB
    Johnny Manziel QB
    Khalil Mack OLB

Looking at that list, it seems possible Johnny could fall to us. I’m not endorsing it, just mentioning it.

  40. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Honestly. had Schiano remained I think Zach Mettenberger in the second round would have worked. But I suspect Lovie and Tedford will want a mobile guy now.

  41. Bucfan66 Says:

    @d-money

By the time Watkins would be done his low-cost rookie deal, VJax would be 34-35 years old and at the end of his career. Having money tied up with VJax and MW right is of no concern.

  42. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ BucFan66

I like the idea of getting a great young WR…..Watkins is a special talent in the mold of Julio Jones & Dez Bryant….an athletic beast We would have a contract on a relativly inexpensive WR who could end up as a #1….
If Glennon works out, we have 3 more years with an inexpensive QB…and with Martin 3 more years, we would have 3 skill positions locked up.

  43. HFXBUC Says:

If we’re going to take Watkins at 7 we should trade back for Marques Lee from USC. Same player. Lee may be a bit craftier and more dynamic. however a QB in the first of second round is a must. Look at Seattle… they brought in 3 or 4 QB’s before hitting on one. I’d actually draft a QB in Round 1 and 2. It’s too important not to bring in as much talent as possible and hope to hit on one. Hitting on a top QB fixes OL and WR3 problems. Get an OL (or 2), DE and WR #3 in FA. Bring 10 QB coaches in to make sure each prospect gets good coaching.

  44. Carran007 Says:

Dexter McCluster would work out nice in the slot plus he’s from the area.

  45. DallasBuc Says:

    Sammie Watkins. That us all.

  46. Max Says:

We don’t need a receiver we need a good tight end…. every single team in our conference has a good to great tight end.

  47. BirdDoggers Says:

The lack of receiving options this past season makes it difficult to assess Glennon. He may or may not be the answer at QB. Lovie has said protecting the QB is a point of emphasis, which leads me to believe an O-lineman might be targeted in the draft.

  48. Patrick in VA Says:

@max – Gonzalez is done and Olsen is getting old. Besides Wright worked out fine in the role we used him and Crabtree was a big boat to the run game

  49. Patrick in VA Says:

    Boost

  50. BirdDoggers Says:

As for Sammie Watkins, I don’t see it happening. The Bucs have two WRs signed to big contracts. Unless VJax or Williams is cut or traded, I don’t see the Bucs spending a high first round pick on a WR.

  51. PRBucFan Says:

Tim Wright will be a great TE

  52. PRBucFan Says:

QB, than DLine, than Oline, than WR

  53. coolbreeze Says:

This what we need to do Mike Williams is too slow trade him. Keep vjack and pick up golden tate in free agency. Draft Sammy Watkins and a gd tightend. Pick up two cbs in free agency Tillman of Chicago and Chris Cook of Minnesota to play with revis> release leonard Johnson. Sign a veteran def end like Hard, Jared Allen Michael Johnson and draft a olineman we are immediately better

  54. coolbreeze Says:

u guys lneed to realize why we cant move the ball we hv no off team speed a bunch of slow people

  55. Chris Says:

Keep an eye in golden Tate my friends. Excellent fit in the slot. Seattle has too many contracts to dish.

We also can’t win if we allow the opposing offense to score more points than us.

Unless there is going to be a change in our base offense (which i assume there will be, but haven’t seen enough of Tedfords system to know for sure what it will be) I’m not sure him getting on the field for 75% of snaps (excluding ST).

Highly doubt he beats out VJ and MW for a starting role, and unless you’re running 3/1/1 (WR/TE/RB) then i don’t see the value in selecting a WR at #7….

    Invalid argument.

The potent offenses have top notch QBs that can make the players around them better.

Using your same example, you do realize that, outside of i think Jones, those same receivers were there when Flynn and (insert QB name here) was starting. I don’t remember anyone saying, “Man, look at that potent Green Bay offense with Flynn under center. Those guys are playoff bound.”

It was actually the complete opposite. Their offense couldn’t do anything, while the opposing defense knew that the only thing they had to do to succeed is key in on Lacy.

I agree, but i just cannot see a defensive head coach valuing a 3rd WR more than he would a pass rusher or lineman….

    thats just my $0.02 though.

  63. Mike J Says:

HFXBUC, I like Lee too; as I understand it, he had some nagging injuries & wasn’t real healthy until the bowl game.

Bucs have been granted permission to interview Marc Ross from the Giants for the GM position.

  67. Vern4499 Says:

Get a QB! Great ones make players better. Glennon does not. People say you can’t evaluate him because of the people around him. That’s total BS. He had a Pro Bowl wideout. Most Young QBs don’t have one. Trade the farm and get a QB.

  68. Greg Says:

Count me in as a member of the Watkins Mob if Johnny Football isn’t there at #7.

Will someone take a look at what could be a possible steal for us if we select Kent St’s kr/wr Dri Archer in the later rounds i.e. 5th or 7th? Reminds me a lot of Philly’s DeSean Jackson/Saints Darren Sproles. This kid can catch, take a hit, and has elite game breaking speed, speed, and more speed…4.21-4.35, top level acceleration, exceptional change of direction, incredible balance with lots of versatility to follow. Please check him out.

  87. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @dmatt

Didn’t watch the kid play, and can’t find any games on the kid. Someone in another post was speaking highly about the kid.

  88. mark2001 Says:

Celly..did you watch the Packers play every game with Flynn? I did…I see all the Packer games for free up here….have to pay for Rewind to see the Bucs games day after. Flynn had a tough couple of games…but the Packers Offense did quite well once he developed his timing again with Nelson and Jones….and that was without Cobb and with a Rookie, Boykin. And that is after the Viks paid big bucks for Jennings. And Flynn walked in, after getting up off the sofa. Not saying Nelson would be the great receiver he is without developing his game with Rogers.

You guys think two very good receivers are enough? Dream on. YOU NEED 4, knowing you might have one out at any time and need three to run a three WR offense. Like I said, look around the league and talk to fans that know something about what they are looking at. I’m purely amateur…but if you want to know the Packers problems, it is this simple…1. guys don’t play disciplined lanes…when the play breaks down, they lose their discipline and give up big plays. and 2. They have 5′ 7″ munchkin CB’s trying to guard 6’5″ receivers. 3. O line problems…sound Familiar. And that is something that a Vet like Rogers can compensate for due to his fast read, good release, mobility, pinpoint accuracy generally, and chemistry with guys like Nelson so that when the play breaks down…he knows exactly what Nelson will do and where he can be found on the field.

  89. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

“We don’t need a receiver we need a good tight end…. every single team in our conference has a good to great tight end.”

Jimmy Graham of the Saints is a free agent this off season, assuming the Saints do not work out a deal with him. Graham is to of the line. And Tim Wright did a pretty good job as a pass catcher.

  90. PRBucFan Says:

Underwood is pretty quick. They went to him on several long passes.

But I would not expect Lovie to take a WR in the first round. There are only two ways he’ll go…QB or DE.

If by some miracle both Clowney and Johnny are available when we pick, I think Lovie goes for Clowney…and rightfully so.

  92. PRBucFan Says:

If they dont think Glennon is the guy then I would see your point. But if theres a possibility he is… what then? After they take a look at the tape I believe they will think the same.

He deserves one more year and if he’s not then next year whoever will pick for QB will be in a much better situation. I thought you liked Glennon. Did you change your mind?

  94. PRBucFan Says:

i’m just not convinced he is, and I don’t believe they will be either.

So that’s why I believe they will/should get another guy to either

    A. Make Glennon prove he is the guy or
    B. Become the guy

I did like what I saw from Glennon, but I honestly do not like how easy he is to take down.

  95. lurker Says:

he saw the light…and the playoffs, and the bowl games, and common sense! lol

everything is the qb…that is why they get the big bucks. I actually think the Clemson qb, Tahj boyd, shoulda got the mvp for that game, not Watkins.

  96. lurker Says:

if st. Louis takes Watkins, we will get the top ot or a qb

  97. rich Says:

    @LUVMYBUCS

Dri Archer has some impressive highlights. One of his videos:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-3JgIG9hhM

There’s not much of him going against quality competition, but he looks like he’s about twice as fast as anybody else on the field; from what I’ve seen he’s got good hands and a nose for the end zone. He doesn’t seem like he’s built to be a running back, but he looks like a heck of a football player.

  98. BoJim Says:

    Vern

You said Glennon had a Pro Bowl wideout. You think that was all he needed?

How bout somebody else to throw to???

    How bout a running back???

    How bout an Oline???

    Duh.

  99. Vern4499 Says:

    Bo Jim,

How about throw your receivers open and throw to space. People on here talk about how Glennon was the best rookie QB. That means nothing. And franchise QBs make the players around them better. You want to think Glennon is good enough fine. As Bucs fans we think mediocre is good enough and it’s not.

  100. Mumbles Says:

    dmatt/rich,

Looked up Dri Archer. NFLDraftScout has a late 7th round grade on him. He is fast, runs 4.37/40. Grade might have something to do with being 5’73/4″ WR. Could be another Trindon Holiday or put on a few lbs, maybe a Sproles. Probably a NFL long shot. Not a Buc tho, we already got Demps.

  101. colb Says:

I’m surprised only a few people have mentioned McCluster. If that guy leaves KC he absolutely should be a Buccaneer. Solid returner and slot.

We need to invest draft picks at offensive line and either quarterback or tight end. The bucs can’t afford to pay 3 WRs big money.

  102. Capt. Tim Says:

Yes. We need a slot Reciever. And a TE who can Block and catch.
But I screamed that to the heavens last season, and said we’d have a losing record if we didn’t get those posistions addressed.

Think Lovie will make it happen.

  103. PRBucFan Says:

Tim Wright will be our starting TE, the guy is going to be something special IMO.

He can be coached up on blocking, we could always get a second mainly blocking TE.

  104. Buc1987 Says:

    Depth across the board!

  105. Capt. Tim Says:

Yes, a 2nd TE is what I had in mind-
Tim Wright is the Hybred pass catching TE- and looked really good at it this year.
Would love to add the 6’6″, 270lb blocking TE- who is a physical mismatch in the End Zone.
That would help Vincent Jackson immensely.

  106. Patrick in VA Says:

To those suggesting that we trade everything for more picks and a shot at a higher rated qb, please take a look at the redskins. They’ve done exactly what you’re suggesting and their team is in shambles directly as a result of it. It’s not like you get to package a first and a third to move up to the #2 spot. The precedent has been set and we’d have to drop or next three first rounders. Fellas, we are paper thin s far as depth goes as it is. let’s be rational about this. Trading up is nonsense. we have a guy that has proven he can develop quarterbacks as our oc. Let’s give him a chance to do that with the guy we have before we give up the farm. Besides, you guys act like this us the last chance we’ll ever get to draft a solid qb. Every year the hype machine stats rolling the same way it it’s this year for that year’s crop of qbs. We’ll have more chances. Let’s give ourselves a chance to get it done within the framework of what is already in house under quality coaching.

  107. PRBucFan Says:

RGIII got hurt, after they made the playoff because of him.

It happens and by no means does that mean that because in that one instance it happened now that it will happen for every other team that trades up to get their guy.

  108. Patrick in VA Says:

See also Julio Jones and Ricky Williams. All with a combined 0 rings after teams gave up a draft for them. And let’s not use the injury excuse for rg3 when that same excuse is being shot down when used to explain why glennon didn’t have any weapons to throw to. If rg3 was healthy enough to start then he should’ve performed at a high level.

  109. traew01 Says:

The ONLY way we are going to win the NFC South is to score points. The offenses in our division are too good.

And right now we just dont have enough firepower. We ABSOLUTELY are missing a playmaker like Sammy Watkins. He is exactly what this team needs.

Address OL later in draft, and use free agency for DE and Corner.

  110. Bucsfanman Says:

I can’t believe Clowney is still rated as a top 10 pick and people in TB are still talking about drafting him. The man’s entire resume is ONE hit. Look what he did for S.C. this year…hardly top 10 worthy, the guy is a second or third round talent at best. Heck, Bowers has a better resume than Clowney!
Go offense, offense, offense, anything to improve this offense in the draft.

  111. Patrick in VA Says:

@Bucsfanman – Clowney is being chided for taking this year off because he doesn’t want to get hurt and mess up his chances of making it into the NFL. Him falling off this year is not an indicator of him not being as good as his billing. The guy is legit

  112. PRBucFan Says:

The Julio Jones trade is widely considered a successful one by the way 😉

  113. PRBucFan Says:

And it doesn’t matter what you think about whether his injury was an “excuse” or not lol.

Especially considering I wasn’t talking about this season I was talking about last season in which he took his team to the playoffs.

And again, It happens and by no means does that mean that because in that one instance it happened now that it will happen for every other team that trades up to get their guy.

Not to mention Washingon did not already have a foundation set like the Bucs do.
