“They Don’t Know”
December 30th, 2013Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud was hanging around the Buccaneers in New Orleans yesterday, talked to rockstar general manager Mark Dominik, and said this morning on WDAE-AM 620 that Dominik and Greg Schiano are unaware of their 2014 fate.
“I feel this, though, in talking to Mark Dominik and getting the sense with Greg last night. They don’t know. They don’t know what’s going to happen,” Stroud said.
Stroud goes on to say Schaino’s best case to Team Glazer may be that Dominik has failed in many aspects, from quarterback on down. Various national NFL insiderss, per Stroud, claiming Schiano is safe “are just guessing.”
Listen to Stroud’s entire audio below.

Here is what I would do if I were the Glazers:
Keep Schiano (tell him to lay off the offense or he can walk)
Hire a top notch OC
Instruct Dominick to Rebuild the O-line mainly through the draft
Trade down in round 1 and pick up an extra 2nd or a 3rd round pick
Trade Rainey for a pick
Select TE/OL first 4 selections
Restructure or cut Nicks, Joseph, Penn
Spend the additional and remaining cap on WR/DE/CB
Let Schiano know that if he fails he will be fired in mid-season and replaced by the new OC
Let Schiano know that you are only advocating competion at every position like he does…..and that includes competition at HC.

FIRE THEM BOTH!!!!1

The plan should be: RELIEVE THE HEAD COACH AND ENTIRE COACHING STAFF OF THEIR DUTIES AS WELL AS THE FRONT OFFICE, AND THEN HIRE BILL POLIAN AS DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS (GM)
December 30th, 2013 at 11:16 am
Can we just wait and find out from Jay Glazer……dig dig
December 30th, 2013 at 11:16 am
If we were tofire Dominik, I’d like to see us try and grab Brian Gutekunst.
December 30th, 2013 at 11:17 am
It’s time for the Glazer family to make some aggressive moves like they did back when they won the Superbowl. Clean house and bring in NFL Professionals that already know how to win in this league. This current regime has not been successful nor will they ever be. Hire people that know what a Championship NFL team looks like and is built. We devoted, long time Buc fans are getting so tired of seeing the team we love be a total non-factor. Please give us reason to be excited about our team again
December 30th, 2013 at 11:21 am
28-52 worst record for any GM with more than 2 years on the job. Five years of rebuilding.
December 30th, 2013 at 11:22 am
I just saw the list of teams we play in 2014. We play the NFC-North, AFC-North, plus the Rams and the Redskins. And of course, we play the ever tough NFC-South teams.
I see 3 teams that we could possibly beat today – the Vikings, Redskins, and Lions. If the Falcons get a decent RT, replace TE Gonzalez and Julio Jones returns, we will for the 3rd year in a row be at the bottom of the NFC-South.
We must make some major changes or else we get what we deserve. Somebody give me a reason to be optimistic.
December 30th, 2013 at 11:24 am
I am glad the season is done. For me this was as pathetic a football season as I ever remember. College and pro football was such a downer for all of the teams I pull for. I am not a Noles fan but I will pull for them since they are the only Florida Football team at any level that is good.
December 30th, 2013 at 11:26 am
I agree with posters above. We need management with real football knowledge. Would love it if a Polian came in and hired a Derrick Brooks to be his protege. That would make me keep my tickets in a heartbeat!

Please stop. You’ve posted this in half a dozen threads already. Frankly, it’s not good.

Guys keeping him means more losing – the numbers don’t lie!

I’m jut preparing for the collective vomiting when the BS statement comes out about how we are on the right track and staying the course.

Dom the rock star is the problem
December 30th, 2013 at 11:32 am
I look at this Bucs team and one word comes to mind – REGRESSION
December 30th, 2013 at 11:33 am
If the Glazers watch the games and know anything about football. It should be clear to them that Schiano is not a good NFL coach. Good guy. Just not a good coach. Please give us something to look forward to next year.
December 30th, 2013 at 11:34 am
Joe have you got the siren ready?
December 30th, 2013 at 11:39 am
I’m a reasonable guy, I like facts to inform my decisions. I have nothing personally against Schiano but here are the facts:
He is a Defensive minded coach whose pass defense has been abysmal
His record is .344, Raheem Morris’ was .354
We have two Pro Bowl players on defense (despite the fact we should have 3 with David, but that is not a fact)
We picked 3rd in the 2010 Draft
We picked 20th in the 2011 Draft
We picked 7th and 31st in the 2012 Draft
We traded for Darrelle Revis
We should have a top 10 defense.
We should be competing the NFC South
We should have at least an 8-8 record
This wasn’t Schiano’s first season, that is forgivable. This was his second and I think another coach needs the opportunity to turn this franchise around.

Couch Fan,
That’s the reason I like you. You are a true JBF network star!
December 30th, 2013 at 11:50 am
@ Stephen
Thanks for re-posting it…since you are so tired…FYI posted 3 times including this one on articles that had very few posts…
I am just resigned to the fact that the Glazers will keep Schiano and I hope they will follow some prescription that has an opportunity for success.
A fish stinks from the head…so, the Owners won’t fire themselves…it makes little since to fire Schiano without firing Dominick.
December 30th, 2013 at 11:52 am
Here is how I would handle it if I decided to move on with big changes…
Hire a great GM…maybe one of the ones you guys mentioned.
See if he has a new HC in mind or if he wants to give Schiano one more year…if he chooses to keep him, he better be ready to explain why.
Insist at changes in the coach staff…at least one, maybe two coordinators.
Then make sure everyone does their job in a better than average fashion in all aspects.
December 30th, 2013 at 11:52 am
And yet again I ask everybody here….. Living in NC I know all things Panthers. What would happen to them if owners listened to their cries last year, the year before, and a 1-3start this year?
December 30th, 2013 at 11:53 am
It takes a coach 3yrs to mould his team
December 30th, 2013 at 11:56 am
Pewter goon…you mentioned a few drafts…what about all the drafts that Dom has been in charge of? And BTW…of all those drafts, how many above average players do we have on this team…..and how many of those haven’t we “broken the bank” to draw in FA? Those are the facts….I won’t name all the busts and average player for you…I’m not a masochist. But if you think Dom is better than an average GM, I have a causeway/ bridge across Tampa Bay to sell you.
December 30th, 2013 at 11:58 am
Mike, Mike, Mike,
The Panthers have Cam Newton, Johnson, Hardy and two DTs taken in the 1st and 2nd rounds. Apples and Oranges!
December 30th, 2013 at 11:58 am
We stuck with Perkins or three seasons, Wyche for four, Raheem for three.
What good did that patience do?
Just delayed the inevitable.
Sucky coaching is sucky coaching, no matter how long it has lasted.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:02 pm
Mike…well said…in the Tampa region everything is supposed to be sunny and warm. We can’t have inferior talent, or a bad GM, but we can have a bad HC. Let me ask you a question Mike….except for McCoy, David, and Revis….maybe Goldson and Barron…. who do we have on our defense that you would the Panthers trade for one of our guys? And on Offense, other than Martin, Jackson, and maybe Williams, who would you trade straight up?
December 30th, 2013 at 12:03 pm
@Mike
I can’t speak about the Panthers because I dont know much of anything about Rivera. But I do know that in 2 years Schiano has not done anything to show that he knows what he is doing on game days. I gave him a pass last year being his 1st season, but this year his decision making and game day planning have been even worse. This team is not fun to watch. And I see no reason to think next year is going to be any better.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:04 pm
Mike…of course, I mean position for position….yeah…we should be talented enough to compete for a playoff run or at least a strong appearance….I rest my case.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:07 pm
@Mike – the difference is that Dominick had a 4 year head start on building a roster. Is there anyone going to mistake the Panthers d line for TBs? Their offensive line does more with less. Unless you think Hurney should not have been fired. Change actually was made in Charlotte last year.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:07 pm
I will ask what I asked last night. Everyone keeps foregetting about Butch Davis. He is the Advisor. Advisor to who and what? What and how much pull?
As the hours go on I think the OC an maybe DC go. Maybe other a few others as well. But not the HC.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:09 pm
Between Greg Schiano and Mark Dominik, one of these two men can not survive this trainwreck of a season. Quite frankly, both could end up on the chopping block, but if the Glazers don’t move on from one or both of these men, I find it difficult to believe the Bucs will be able to compete next season.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:14 pm
Comparing the Bucs to the Panthers…all you have to do is look at the FB position…..we are carrying 4 FBs…..Lorig compared to Tolbert…..I rest my case.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:17 pm
Eric…Wyche was here when Sapp and Brooks were drafted, I believe. I don’t know if he had any input on that, but if you, I will always say “thanks Sam”, in spite of the “Adventure Begins” billboard on 275, but was burned in my memory as the team continued to faulter.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:20 pm
But Tampabaybucfan….fans and some in the media tell me we have all this great talent……..what do you mean? That maybe they don’t know much about what they are looking at? Or that they don’t want to call out players because they might lose informational or interview sources? Heaven forbid that that would happen.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:22 pm
jim Leavitt is out there with the 49ers.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:23 pm
Interesting point 20?…you do have to wonder what role he might have in a decision. You would think if the “boys” are looking at major changes, they would at least listen to his “somewhat unbiased” assessment of what is going on in the organization. One thing is sure…he is in a position to know more about what is really go on in the organization than any of us do.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:25 pm
The Glazers always take a long time to make decisions. It’s possible they don’t even know what the plan is. Hopefully their decisions, whatever they are, result in winning. This season was a disaster, with no signs of improvement.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:29 pm
@mark2001
You got it….we don’t have the talent…..Joe keeps talking about 8 probowlers….(past)…..
This year we have 2 (should be 3)
Where is Goldson, Penn, Joseph, Jackson, Martin & Nicks (injured)
We don’t have the talent of other playoff teams….we have some serious holes in our roster…..TE, QB, O-line, D-line, CB, FB….and could even use another LB.
That’s why we probably need to trade our pick for extra picks
December 30th, 2013 at 12:39 pm
Yeah Jim Leavitt… how about Charlie Strong?
December 30th, 2013 at 12:43 pm
Greg Schiano and Mark Dominik were just fired.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:44 pm
Apparently they do now…
December 30th, 2013 at 12:45 pm
I was previously leaning on keeping Dom (Schiano is a no brainer to be fired – he is not even a good DC). After reading over and over Dom’s 5 year record, but being of the opinion that Dom’s first 2 years should not fully count, I started thinking about the other 3 years. Yes, I think Dom has made some good player moves, even compared to the best in the business, such as Ozzie Newsome, Dom has done well. I am always fearful of getting in someone worse than their predecessor – i.e.: Schiano.
But, in the last 3 years his record is 15-38. He should have pushed the issue in keeping Bennett. Maybe Blount had to be given away, I don’t know, but I hated that trade.
Bottom line, with a 15-38 3-year record that Dom must clearly own up to, he should be fired with Schiano.
December 30th, 2013 at 12:46 pm
Wow, GONE!!! Both of them.
Now on to the replacements…..
