Revis Says Bucs Can Win “With These Coaches”

Is Team Glazer listening?

Joe can say from experience that Darrelle Revis is one of the smartest guys on the Buccaneers. He’s sharp, measures his words, and he’s been one of the most successful players in history on the business side of the NFL.

So Joe found it noteworthy that Revis gave what felt like an endorsement to the New Schiano Order last night.

Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network on WDAE-AM 620, Revis talked about how the Bucs’ final four games are all about 2014. It’s effectively next season right now, Revis said, and he believes the Bucs will win, can win, and their future rests safely in the hands of Greg Schiano’s staff.

“I know there’s a lot of Tampa fans that’s a little bit upset, you know, with the season and everything. Don’t get me wrong, as an organization we’re upset, too,” Revis said. “We’ll turn things around soon. I mean, the only thing I can say is in the future will turn things around and we’ll be better. We have to focus on these last four games. I think we gotta finish the season very strong because this is going to lead into next year, these last four games. So that’s how we have to approach it and that’s how we have to look. This could be the start of something great.

“As we grow as a team, as a defense, offense and special teams, and with these coaches, I think we’ll be fine in the future.”

Some might think Joe is overanalyzing here, but again, Joe is certain Revis wouldn’t have referenced “with these coaches,” if he didn’t want to include the staff in his warm comments about what’s next for the Buccaneers. Joe will also note that Revis was responding to a fan caller but was not asked about how the team will perform next season or even this Sunday.

Joe wonders whether Team Glazer is listening to and/or seeking player feedback from team leaders like Revis.

Revis is a very smart guy who usually speaks his mind. I think he knows that Schiano is going to be kept as the coach and he is saying exactly what he should be saying if that’s the case.
Even if he is wrong about that, it shows his loyalty and loyalty from an employee tops all.

  2. Mr. Patrick Says:

Revis has 16 million reasons to be a loyal company man. Do you really expect him to come out and criticize the coaching staff at this point?

  3. Vic Says:

The Bucs aren’t going to cut Revis. That’s about the least likely thing to happen. Revis, earlier this year, used to leave out the coaches when he talked about the team. I believe him.

  4. Bobby Says:

The point is, he wasn’t asked a question where he had to mention coaches at all. The fact that he did mention coaches is, in fact, an endorsement.

  5. MikeJ Says:

Bobby, that was my reaction also.Revis is an NFL vet & knows his way around; anything volunteered in a positive manner about the coaches gets my attention.

In no way am i saying that Revis is a prick, but I’d guess its in his best interest that everything stays in place so hi$ contract has it’s best chance of staying in place.

    Think about it

  7. d-money Says:

He is probably the one guy on the team that would not have to worry about his job if a new coach or GM came in.

And if a new coach or GM came in and cut him he’d have at least 25-30 other teams lining up to sign him.

So its really of no benefit for him to be washing the coaches balls other than if he truly feels that way.

    “A little bit upset”

Just cause we won a few games doesn’t signal a turnaround. I believe the Bucs have won by sheer will. Certainly nothing to do with Schiano, Sullivan, or Sherman’s “superior” coaching skill.

Revis works for the Bucs. The owners are going to expect the players to back up the other employees (coaches). Let’s not read anything more into a very vague statement.

    Stop drinking the Kool-Aid folks.

If someone were paying me a non-guaranteed million bucks a game, I would sponsor a parade in their honor to keep the contract going.

The first thing the new coach and or GM will do is trade Revis for a #1 and #3 pick.

  11. Walter Says:

    @Clowney

lol as if anyone would trade us a first AND a third round pick to take Revis and his $16 million a year contract.
