One Of The Best
December 8th, 2013Joe thinks it is safe to suggest Bucs linebacker Lavonte David is one of the best players in the NFL and his name can be said in the same breath with Patrick Willis.
At least Bucs star cornerback Darrelle Revis thinks so.
David had what is becoming a normal day at the office. They guy was everywhere. A true ballhawk, which is why he had two interceptions today — right place at the right time when Revis’ hit on Robert Woods (Joe was shocked a flag wasn’t thrown is was such a good hit) popped the ball loose. There was Mr. Dependable to snatch the ball for a pick.
“I think he’s the best linebacker in the league,” Revis said of David. “There are some guys, no disrespect to Patrick Willis and a number of guys that have been playing for a long time. When you pop on the film and watch our defense, Lavonte David is everywhere on the field from sideline to sideline. In the run defense, he’s there. In the pass defense, he’s there.
“He was one of the first guys I saw and got excited about when I first came down here in April.”
How impressed is Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy of David? He believes David isn’t mortal, but a superhero.
“That guy is on,” Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy said of David. “That dude, it’s like he is everywhere. You all thought I was joking when I called him ‘The Flash’ last year. That dude can get from one spot to the other out of nowhere. It is ridiculous. I have a quick first step for a lineman. That dude has a quick every step. I love having him.”

He had TWO interceptions today! He’s an animal.

Lavonte David is a stud.

Seems Schiano has had a very positive effect on Dom’s drafting….2 years in a row now.

David is worthy of NFL defensive player of the year in my opinion.
December 8th, 2013 at 7:42 pm
Just think how good he could be if we ever got a real coach here!
BTW, I’m looking through NFL rosters to see if any teams other than Buffalo are coached by former Big East coaches–if we could get more of those on the schedule, I think Gregory would be more in his league.

Imagine if they drafted Kuechley instead of Barron.
December 8th, 2013 at 7:47 pm
LVD is absolutely already an All Pro….and he will only get better.
December 8th, 2013 at 7:54 pm
I normally hate making comparisons between players (especially in only his second year), but watching David play reminds me so much of Derrick Brooks. The similarities are almost eerie.
December 8th, 2013 at 8:00 pm
Lavonte David better not be left out of the Pro Bowl the man is the best LB in the league.
December 8th, 2013 at 8:06 pm
Derrick Brooks himself is on record that Lavonte David is more advanced now than he was in his career at year 2. David is an all-pro this year and will be for years to come, no doubt about it.

55 said he is better than he was in his 1st 2 years. High praise ninja!

Defensive player of the week again, all pro and a future hall of famer. My Barber jersey is being replaced.
December 8th, 2013 at 8:10 pm
This kid is our best player, next to Revis and GMC.
We have three of the best defenders in the NFL, at their respective positions. We need a pass rush and could always use a ball hawking corner.
We may need to see some pay cuts, and sign Charles Tillman.
December 8th, 2013 at 8:17 pm
I just don’t understand why he was 9 on the ballots a couple days ago..
I mean I figured he’s been well heard of but is it possible with our smaller market his name just isn’t well known yet?
December 8th, 2013 at 8:19 pm
I waned Kuechly too but if we had gotten him we probably would of moved Foster to weak side and not drafted David. Kuechly is good but he’s no David. I’m fine with our linebackers. Heck I’m fine with our defense. Little bit of a coming out party by Gholston. I like the front 4 of McCoy, Clayborn, Bowers and Gholston on passing downs. Let’s draft offense.

Starting to look like a second coming of the HoF tampa 2 defense. David plays the role or Mr. Derrick Brooks, GMC plays Warren Sapp, and Revis plays Ronde Barber. Now all we need is another Simeon Rice, maybe a Dexter Jackson and a John Lynch and we are the best defense in the NFL once more! But that’s just a dream, this D still has plenty of holes. But today, they played outstanding, a few picks, 7 sacks, and no TD’s allowed. Granted it was against the Bills, but I’ll take the “W” any day of the week. Bucs are one of the hottest teams in the NFL right now, other than the Seahawks and the JAGUARS! Who’d a thunk it??
December 8th, 2013 at 8:25 pm
@PR – Right now, I believe NFL fans who aren’t Bucs fans only know Lavonte David as “that guy who lost the Jets game for the Bucs”. Pro Bowl is just an example of the dark side of democracy.

Imagine if they drafted Kuechley instead of Barron.
Yeah we’d have a huge gaping hole at safety and only marginally better linebackers.
December 8th, 2013 at 8:35 pm
If they took Kuechley over Barron. There would be a good Chance David would not be here.
December 8th, 2013 at 8:50 pm
Pro Bowl!!!
December 8th, 2013 at 8:51 pm
less stunts, more production!
LVD is king, McCoy is a beast in the middle!
I was happy for Banks too. Kids had a rough year but He’ll be fine.
A very enjoyable game to watch except when offense was on the field.. They were terrible.. Rainey was terrible, except for that TD run, Glennon looked like Brett Favre, gunslinging the ball to VJ.. But a W is a W and I’m happy to see Gholston might evolve as a good player. He has the size, let’s see if they can coach him up..

BEAST. PERIOD

Singing : all I want for Christmas is an LVD jersey, an LVD jersey, an LVD jersey.
December 8th, 2013 at 9:26 pm
In a week, major has knighted three players as elite.
December 8th, 2013 at 9:52 pm
Are you insinuating LVD isn’t?
9 tackles, 1sack, 2 TFL, 2 Int
Leads all LB’s in TFL
You know what your right… He sucks…
December 8th, 2013 at 10:02 pm
Could be DPOY if this was a winning team IMO
December 8th, 2013 at 10:09 pm
Draft a DE with that same desire and ability and you got a top five defense!
December 8th, 2013 at 10:09 pm
no doubt!

==========
I was totally on the Keuchly bandwagon. I would’ve taken Keuchly in round 1, Harrison Smith later…only problem is, other than Barron, we really had a great draft. David, Martin, etc.
December 8th, 2013 at 11:40 pm
Adam,
If you can’t see that LVD is one of the best linebackers in the league then I can’t help you dude.
You just make yourself sound foolish with comments like that.
December 9th, 2013 at 12:00 am
All these elite players …. It sounds so nice.
But “elite” = 4 wins. A blown 28 point lead. No playoffs. Leading the league in penalties.
And by the way, d-money…. What did I say that was untrue? In the past week, Joe has anointed 3 players as “elite.” How is that comment foolish when it is a stated and documented FACT?

Why does everyone hate Barron so much? He is having a good year.
December 9th, 2013 at 12:52 am
Barron is the second leading tackler on our team and has really stepped up his game the last 4-5 weeks. I won’t lie, I questioned the FO when we passed on Kuechly during the draft. But Barron is quietly getting better and better each week IMO and Lavonte David’s play is making it easier to forget about Kuechly. Kuechly and David would have been an excellent LB duo, but like others have pointed out, we probably don’t take Lavonte if Kuechly is our top pick two years ago. Barron has played well against the likes of Jimmy Graham and others (why we drafted him); he tackles like a LB, his ball skills and awareness are improving, and he finally seems to be getting comfortable in this defense. I can admit, at times I wrote him off. But he’s a hard nosed player, with a good head on his shoulders, and he has my support.
Enough of that… Lavonte deserves every bit of credit he’s getting. He is a stud and only getting better. No doubt he’s a pro bowler, and if we were fighting for a playoff spot, we’d all be hearing him getting a lot more nation wide love.
