McCoy Regret In St. Louis?

Joe’s always sniffing around sports radio in the cities of Bucs opponents and reading all kinds of reports to get the pulse of the opposition.
Twice in the past week, Joe has picked up on a little regret in the hearts of Rams faithful and media that they didn’t draft Gerald McCoy with the No. 1 overall pick in 2010.
The Rams, of course, chose McCoy’s college teammate, Sam Bradford, and gave him the whopping, pre-rookie-salary-cap gift of $50 million guaranteed. Ouch!.
Bradford is hurt and hasn’t accomplished much in four season. And yesterday a St. Louis reporter told Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer that the Rams were considering drafting McCoy and asked what Schottenheimer thought of him.
Schottenheimer didn’t hold back much.
“You know, not to throw compliments, but I mean one of the best interior defensive linemen in the league, playing at a high level. Just so disruptive. He’s so quick off the ball, so strong and powerful. His counter moves, when you get him in a certain situation he’s able to counter and come back inside,” Schottenheimer said of McCoy. “Again, they do a good job of moving him around. He’s got eight or 8 1/2 [sacks], and he’s probably come close on another 10 or 12 (laughs). He’s a force to be reckoned with.”
McCoy has come a long way, and Joe’s sure glad he’s not in between Chris Long and Robert Quinn on the Rams’ defensive line. Earlier this week, Greg Schiano told media that the “B-word” (aka “bust”) was being tossed around about McCoy when Schiano arrived in Tampa. Frankly, that was true, albeit not totally fair at the time.
But given that McCoy claims the New Schiano Order taught him the fine points of tackling, Joe probably has to agree. If you can’t tackle after two NFL seasons, then, yeah, you’re a bust on some level.
Joe still wants to see more from McCoy. Start converting some of those lost sack opportunities, and make more game-changing plays. In a tight game like the Bucs-Rams game should be, that could make all the difference.

Happy to have GMC…..Bradford didn’t work out so well….there’s another “Franchise” QB….the draft is a crap shoot with many.

McCoy and LVD should be locks for the Pro Bowl this year. It’d be nice to see more from McCoy, but even if he continues to play at the level he is, I’ll take that in a heartbeat. Now if only we had a few game-changers on offense…

GMC and LvD should be 1st team all-pros.
They are incredible, developing nicely under Schiano.
One more draft for O’l Greg, and we are in business. We finally took out the last of our trash.

He WOULD have a ton of sacks if he had ANY pressure from the edges.

He was injured about 5 games into each of his first two seasons prior to the Schiana era. The Schiano regime didn’t do anything great to make him become a better player he was pretty disruptive in the 8 or so games that he played in two seasons prior to Schiano showing up.

We’d love to see more from GMC, too. Can’t imagine how well he will play if he’s got another level or 3 in there somewhere.

So the Bucs were a laughing stock/ Bad News Bucs prior to Schiano’s arrival and McCoy only got good during Greggy’s watch? Not only should Greggy get to keep his job- might as well just extend him! :/ Dont believe me? Just ask him!

Jesus H Christ…..he was labeled a bust because he was playing like crap.
The same people who labeled him a bust were the same people who were saying that Josh Freeman was worthy of a huge contract extension based on last years performance.
Let’s not put him in the HOF because he has had a good season so far.

Gerald McCoy attended Southeast High School in Oklahoma City. Where as a Junior he was named All-area, all-state and all-metro after he registered 83 tackles, mind you 23 of those tackles were for loss and 20 sacks. As a Senior at Southeast High School in Oklahoma City he registered 82 tackles, 20 sacks and nine fumble recoveries.
He was considered by EVERY SINGLE LAST RECRUITING PUBLICATION-AS A BLUE CHIP 5*****PROSPECT, CONSENSUS BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER IN THE NATION.
So when you here GMC say he couldn’t tackle, meh. Maybe not up to Schiano’s standards. But clearly he was doing something right, or he would’ve never garnered such attention. It wasn’t until after two injury pegged, where he began taking his physical conditioning seriously. Shout outs to @ToddDurkin (Physical Trainer Extraordinaire) down in SD. He’s the one we gotta give homage for turning GMC around;not Schiano.

Now in that last video-He said his goal was to be “COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR” (Published on Mar 9, 2012). Clearly the man was putting in some serious work, waaaaay before training camp started last year.

Yea your right, he did all that, with improper tackling technique.
Imagine that! Thanks for that input.
The proof is also in the pudding.
His torn biceps were direct results of improper tackling technique as well.
It’s proven that that occurs most often from attempting to “arm tackle” opponents as opposed to tackling properly.
McCoy does not seem like the lying type and it’s pretty obvious that the stickler for tackling has helped him improve do what he was getting by on with just pure talent.

Let’s say the Rams did take GMC with the first pick, with us at 3 wonder who we would’ve taken? Pierre-Paul was taken 15th. Would that would’ve been a reach at 3? Suh was taken 2nd.
