“He’s Not Going To Look Very Good”
December 19th, 2013There’s doom and gloom surrounding the prospects for the Bucs offense Sunday in St. Louis.
Never mind that St. Louis doesn’t have much of a pass defense, 27th-ranked in the NFL.
Never mind that Drew Brees, despite an off day and two interceptions, lit up the Rams for 393 yards in the air Sunday.
No, it’s all about location and Mike Glennon, says one NFL insider.
Pat Kirwan, former Jets coach and personnel chief, and current analyst for CBS Sports and NFL radio host, notes that Glennon is taking one sack for every eight pass attempts on the road.
“Look where he is. He’s in St. Louis. They’ve got 47 sacks the last two years in there, 24 this year. So he’s not going to look good in a game like this,” Kirwan says in this CBS Sports preview video with the mouth-watering Erin Sharoni.
Yes, the Rams have a beastly pass rush with bookend manbeast Robert Quinn and Chris Long.
While Quinn didn’t do anything against Donald Penn last year, Penn noted to Joe yesterday that Quinn has clearly progressed on film. Penn also said right tackle Demar Dotson struggled with Long last season, so Sunday was a payback game for Dotson.
Joe’s really not concerned about the Bucs’ bouncing back as pass blockers; it’s the run-blocking that is mired in deep mud.
Interestingly, Kirwan went on to say he would rank Glennon as a better quarterback than injured Rams QB Sam Bradford, and both the Rams and Bucs are franchises “holding their breath that their quarterback is good enough to make them a playoff team next year.”
From that comment, Joe’s guessing Kirwan has heard Greg Schaino will return.

The Bucs can’t beat the good teams but can beat the very bad ones. So since the Rams are a mediocre team with a backup QB, this should be a close game

I think Glennon and the Bucs will have a better passing game this week against the Rams. You would think St. Louis can stop the Bucs overall game if last weeks knock down of the Saints means anything. Some picked Bucs to upset 9ers, nobody picking Bucs this week. This will be a close game.

I think we should come out smoking!!! The Rams will not expect that…forget the run game, bring it in later. We will need some good playcalling to keep the pass rush off Glennon.
Hopefully, our WRs are healthy.
Also, we need to throw to our backs more often.

Tampabay…that made me think of the kicker in The Replacements, Madden saying, I think he is smoking down there…
I agree, let’s mix it up and throw a bunch early on.

So Miami being a playoff isn’t good?
December 19th, 2013 at 2:41 pm
wow what a bunch of losers on this site
December 19th, 2013 at 2:51 pm
Miami now… Yes they are a good team. Miami when we played them (the week of the Jonathan Martin incident. )hell no

I hope Schiano stays, so long as he drafts a QB in the first round…because Glennon is too unsure of a thing.
At least if the Bucs draft a QB they have a chance of one of them being great in the long run.
Commiting to an unsure QG is the reason Tampa has NEVER had a true franchise QB.

You’re right…unsure QG’s will kill a franchise……

@Mr. Patrick
The Bucs can’t beat the good teams but can beat the very bad ones.———————————————————————————————————
Doesn’t that sound like what we were saying about the raheem morris era, we have no running back, we had no quarterback, we have no wide receivers, no slot receiver, kellen winslow dropped everything and was a diva so. I keep hearing people say were not talented enough, people are this site are smoking something… 3 years of not spending a dime for talent, they they go out in two seasons and break the bank and we’re in the same situation we were in before with a completely different regime
SO that means what were saying is raheem morris and greg olsen were better coaches than what we have now? raheem morris with no coaching experience also calling the defensive plays with having one year at defensive coordinator at the college level!!!
The one year they gave josh freeman vincent jackson vjack went right back to the probowl!!! as inaccurate as josh freeman was, as bad as his numbers were he still managed offense better than we have this year. Thats not to say he’s better than glennon, it’s to say that it doesnt matter who is at quarterback because the coaching staff is pathetic
With the youngest roster in the nfl and youngest coaching staff, make fun of the head coach chest bumping all you want but his last season as buc coach he started out 4-2 then lost the rest of their games which happened to coincide with losing gerald mccoy for the season, theres no excuse in the world for winning 4 games with this roster, atleast before he got here we were beating the teams we should beat like the rams for instance and we did it without any veterans….albert haynesworth was on the roster for god’s sake and people are saying this roster isn’t talented
This is actually one of the moments i can say mark dominick isnt at fault, i think greg schiano is the idiot that decided to keep all the young inexperienced talent instead of veterans like derrick Hagan, they signed ogletree for god knows what reason, even cut tiquan underwood…we signed a reciever who retired a week later rather than play for us, we had david douglas…theres a guy on the practice squad, 6-5 220 named tommy streeter…why isnt he called up? and we even had a great young undrafted rookie kicker who they cut because he missed one extra point in the preseason dare i say thats yet another mistake
no more excuses because for a coach that never makes excuses thats all i’ve been hearing….it’s his fault for putting the game in the hands of no name players on a kick off return and it was all because he knows he has no answer on offense but any other coach could work with this roster
December 19th, 2013 at 3:19 pm
They didn’t think he’d look good against Seattle either. You don’t know squat until the game is played. If the O-line does their job Glennon will look fine.
December 19th, 2013 at 5:51 pm
Glennon will only look good if we have a running game. I don’t think at this point in his career he is capable of doing well without a lot of help on the ground. Perhaps if we could maybe mix up the running game we would have more success. At minimum, maybe we could run out of a different set. It’s pretty obvious whenever we go tight formation with a fullback, it’s going to be a run. But then again, that would make way too much sense. I think the problem is that we just don’t practice that, so there’s no way we can do it. That’s just crazy talk.
December 19th, 2013 at 7:30 pm
@buc4lyfe I’m right with you. If Schiano comes back, I’m not going to any games next year. I only went to see the Miami game specially because it was Sapp’s night. We beat some bad teams and people are jumping in the bandwagon. Seriously?
@Hawaiian Buc You are funny! Hopefully they practice the no-huddle this week.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:21 pm
Agreed on the no huddle. We need to do something different and since the no huddle was responsible for the little success we had on offense last week then lets see more of it, especially if our running game goes nowhere this week. With the rams being dismal in pass coverage it should serve us well provided the oline can step up and do some decent pass blocking. We’ll see.
December 19th, 2013 at 9:56 pm
@buc4lyfe….
What are you smoking dude?? This offense is anemic because the players are anemic and the play calling is anemic. The receivers can’t get seperation, the O-line can’t open a hole big enough for Bobby Rainey (4th string rookie) to fit through on a consistent basis. Pass rushers routinely get to sack Glennon or chase him all over the field. We have V-Jax and then our receivers are all 1st or 2nd year players. It’s not hard to figure out why we can’t beat good teams.

Rah4life
So you give Rah Rah all of the excuses in the world but Schiano gets none. Rah was a young coach, Schiano has head coaching experience but a 1st time NFL head coach. He was never a coordinator in the NFL.
You said the main reason Rah went 4-12 in his last season was because of McCoy’s injury. Schiano’s bucs this year have had some devastating injuries. Not to mention the loss of Nicks last year didn’t help the bucs. The whole debacle with Rah’s boy Freeboy didn’t help either. How about Freeboy’s December meltdown last year, they actually had a winning record until he tanked it.
You probably want Lovie Smith as our next coach. I hope Schiano is here long enough to drive the fake fans away. I’ve been rooting for the bucs most of my life. I’ve seen a lot worse than this. I will continue to watch no matter how good or bad they are.
