Exploding Will Gholston

December 15th, 2013

DaQuan who?

Bucs fans can at least crack a little grin tonight at the play of rookie defensive end Will Gholston against the 49ers. He continues to emerge as a real-deal NFL talent over the past month or so.

Today, Gholston was credited for eight tackles, five solo, and Bucs fans saw what his massive frame (6-6, 280) can deliver at 22 years old.

He was batting passes, doing damage in the backfield and succeeding against a stout offensive line. He’s a become a late fourth-round pick worth celebrating.

What’s interesting to Joe is that somebody at One Buc Palace is doing a great job developing this kid, who came in raw and as more of a project out of the draft. So that means the Bucs can develop a defensive end. One could call that evidence that DaQuan Bowers’ demise, and underwhelming production from other Bucs DEs, are more a function of their lacking talent.

But Joe wants to just stay positive on Gholston tonight. The kid is coming on. He’s using those long arms and he looks quicker, likely a function of him getting more comfortable in the defense.

At this rate, Greg Schiano will be predicting a double-digit sack season for him next year. Well, that might not be a good idea.

The prediction is a good idea. Schiano and company will not be coaching here next year!

We have a rough diamond. Awesome to watch him play.

  2. Adam L Says:

Banks is “on the cusp of elite.”

    Barron has “arrived.”

Freeman gives the Bucs the best chance to win.

Excuse me for being skeptical of the claims made by this site.

Adam L is “hopefully on the wrong end of the banstick”

  4. Bucfan#37 Says:

Gholston was definitely a highlight today. Good pick whoever made it. Schiano will be the Bucs coach next year, no doubt.

[Joe’s had a enough of your lying about him. If you can’t read and don’t know the difference between a question and a declarative statement, then you need to go back to grade school and take remedial English. — Joe]

  6. The_Buc_Realist Says:

hmmmmm, I thought the coaching scheme did not allow any d-line to make plays……hmmmmmm interesting,,,,,,so talent maybe the issue…..

YES we got William Gholston 6’6″ 281 Michigan St….Luv how this kid knocks down passes

Adam L. You’re not quoting the website. The headline was a question “is banks on the cusp of elite?” https://www.joebucsfan.com/?p=102702

Also whats wrong with Barrons play? I have seen a lot of good stuff from him.

Although i do agree with you on the freeman prediction. you shouldn’t twist others words to make a point

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Another player in development showing signs of value….at the very least he will provide depth and that’s what you want from your draft picks….looks like the draft has really improved since Schiano got here…..
    Barron
    Martin
    David
    Banks
    Glennon
    Spence
    Gholston
    James
    And even Tandy
Some undrafted like Wright, Rainey, Johnson, Page, & even Tiquan
Jury out on Means, Melvin, Demps & Michael Smith…..and we used a #1 pick for Revis…so I count him with our draftees….

  10. Adam L. Says:

Umm.. Neal. I actually put in quotations “on the cusp of elite.” That’s pretty much the definition of word-for-word.

Except, dumbarse, you forgot the question mark and the first word of the question. But given your minuscule grasp of reading comprehension, the fact you can’t use or don’t understand punctuation doesn’t surprise Joe. You don’t know the difference between a question and a declarative statement.

  12. Patrick in VA Says:

Adam, settle down bro. You’re taking this stuff way too seriously.

Adam is really a reason to ban someone???

    Clowns make me laugh.

  14. BucfaninMi Says:

Gholston was a beast in college, you could just tell he was gonna be good in the pros. The knock on him was disapline, not ability. He gave my Wolverines a hard time every time they played.

  15. BucfaninMi Says:

Plus he has a nasty streak in him, under the right staff he’ll be one if the team leaders.

Please don’t boot guys like this, it is too entertaining. Besides, like many others (Couch Fan) they misquote and/or put words into ppls mouth, then criticize them – they can’t help being stupid, but at least they are entertaining.

The Joes trying to give out grammar lessons tells me we’re in Special Olympics mode around these here parts.

Are you still mad that I made you look silly for being the hater that you are? Lol. Suck it up butter cup.

Joe, I’ve never commented, but I feel the need to now. You epitomize the definition of douchebag. I’ve never seen a blogger attack his readers quite like you. Anyone who challenges you or disagrees with you gets pummeled. I’ve come to this site multiple times daily for years, but I think I’ve had enough. Get over yourself and grow the hell up. Of course people are gonna disagree with you and call you out. But you insist on being infantile and acting like an idiot. Feel free to bully me and carry on with your typical assault. But please remember that good or bad, we are the people that have put you in the position that you are in today. Develop a little grace and thank your loyal readers instead of acting like the douchebag that you obviously are.

God forbid Joe doesn’t tolerate someone twisting his words and inventing a tale about things Joe never said or wrote, then going after Joe on both his own site and on Twitter for the alleged infractions that never occurred in the first place.

Not sure who the douchebag is here?

  21. Had enough Says:

Do what anyone else in your position would generally do. Ignore them. You don’t have to fight every single fight. You obviously have a good thing going, but you need to develop a thicker skin. Who cares if some commenter misquotes you? You don’t have to right every single wrong. Sometimes just being the bigger person is good enough. Everybody here knows you guys are the best at what you do. Just don’t feel like you have to stoop to the level of some idiotic commenters. It’s just not very becoming.

  22. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I’ve been very critical of Schiano (I believe rightfully so), but I have to give credit where credit is due. He appears to really know talent, as he has had 2 really good drafts. The problem, however, is that he can’t put said talent together and have them play together as a unit. Although it doesn’t really seem to be his personality, perhaps the best thing for him would be to be a GM. In the two years he’s been here, he hasn’t missed on much. And he deserves a medal alone just for drafting Lavonte David. And yes I know Dominik is the GM, so perhaps I’m giving credit to the wrong person. However, I believe Schiano is at minimum very influential on personnel decisions. Maybe I’m wrong.

  23. Patrick in VA Says:

To those telling the Joes to shut up and let people misquote them, you people are exactly wheat it’s wrong with every comment section of every website everywhere. You go in expecting total anonymity and zero accountability for the things that you post. There isn’t as much hate and vitriol here as some places but I applaud the Joes for not allowing those who would spin what he says to suit their own narrative.

  24. Mcbuc Says:

Hawaiian. Remember shrank himself said he had. Erg little to do with the draft his first year, which is the draft David came in. He was focused on putting this coaching staff together. I am bit so impressed by the coaching staff.

  25. Mcbuc Says:

Dang auto correct. Shiano himself said he had very little to do with the fist draft.

  26. Vic Says:

Frankly Joe, one of the best things about the comments section here is your responses — sometimes angry, sometimes witty, sometimes brilliantly argued — to those who attack your credibility. I think you’re very fair in your guarding of your reputation. As it should be.

  27. E Says:

My real question with Schiano is will he continue to draft well when he has been away from the college game for a few years.

  28. neal Says:

Adam L. why do you keep saying “freeman gives us the best chance to win” he is not even on the team! (see what i did there?)
