Why Did Bucs Get Away From Run?
November 3rd, 2013The Bucs were hammering the Seahawks with the run. Mike James, with his best game since high school, was getting three and four (or much more) yards a carry. The Bucs largely built a lead on the legs of James.
Then, in the second half, which is the Bucs’ kryptonite, the Bucs choked an upset win away by getting away from the run in the fourth quarter, specifically getting away from feeding James the ball.
On the Bucs’ first drive of the fourth quarter leading by a touchdown, the Bucs had a 3rd-and-3 situation from the Bucs-40. Instead, the Bucs go to the pass (from a rookie in a rocking, raucous chamber of doom) and Glennon is sacked and the Bucs have to punt.
On the Bucs’ second possession, the Bucs had a 3rd-and-2 from their own 29-yard line and again, instead of James running, Glennon threw incomplete to the left side.
In the Bucs’ third possession, granted with the clock ticking, the Bucs never tried one run (though Joe understands running there would have been dicey).
The Bucs largely got a big lead on the Seahawks using James. They got away from that in the fourth quarter. And that’s a big reason why the Bucs choked. Plain and simple.

Agreed! You dance with who brung you. No clue as to why to abandon what was working.
November 3rd, 2013 at 9:28 pm
Ahhhh screw the bucs coaching staff they just suck. We have a great team and players but they are being dragged down by a crappy coach staff. O by the way Direct Tv streaming online went down again in second half I hope to god Direct Tv loses the renewal contract

Coach Schiano does not know how to win in the NFL. Period

“Why Did Bucs Get Away From Run?”
Answer: The coaches suck!

What new improved excuses will the great one have in his press conferences? I’m sure noise will be one. Oh and injuries of course. Some new electronic malfunction.

Good Players + Bad Coaches (for them at least) = 0 dash 8
November 3rd, 2013 at 9:35 pm
Congratulations to the O line on the run blocking. This should also be a lesson to the bully that there are other backs besides Doug Martin. As usual he went nuts again on TV. Can’t Glennon throw a pass over 5 yards deep? At least the team did not quit on themselves. To hell with playing for the bully.
November 3rd, 2013 at 9:37 pm
I hope someone in the press nails him down with the same questioning. “WHy, when you had success with the run, did you abandon the run and opt for the pass”? While the press corps is at it hopefully someone will aks about his halftime adjustments. Most likely response will be a blank stare followed by “It starts with me………….blah-blah-blah”
November 3rd, 2013 at 9:40 pm
I’m more upset about the lack of play action used when the run was working.
November 3rd, 2013 at 9:42 pm
I thought Seattle would adjust to the run in the 2nd half. we started to run and had some success, then abandoned it. I think the coach’s were scared and did not like the fact the Seahawks were making a run. So they said OK e are going to through the ball to get some points.
November 3rd, 2013 at 9:43 pm
It’s the truth….but truth be told he has always been a mediocre talent in the college ranks as well…..schiano was always on freeman for being mediocre as well. We as fans have settled for medicrocy for a very long time. If we must endure this this year I say at least get the absolute best QB in the draft next year…… Mariota, Bridgewater, Manziel. No settling for Murray, even it he is a local kid. The QB touches the ball on each snap…gives fans hope every
November 3rd, 2013 at 9:43 pm
Every play….)don’t we deserve this?
November 3rd, 2013 at 9:45 pm
Greg Schiano does not deserve the title of Head Coach. Team dictator suits him better. Besides it insults the memory men like Mckay, Dungy and Gruden to have that inept fool holding the title of Tampa bay Bucs Head Coach.
November 3rd, 2013 at 9:45 pm
Why was Schiano calling offensive plays in the second half? Blah im tired of this sh!t, bout to hit the bottle again…
November 3rd, 2013 at 9:45 pm
6 minutes left in the game on third down, and we try to throw the fricking ball and end up stopping the clock. That one coaching decision probably cost us the game (which gave the Seahawks time to tie the game.
Also in overtime, we should have tried running the ball more.
November 3rd, 2013 at 9:48 pm
Looked liked James came up gimpy (ankle?) on a play I believe in the 3rd quarter.
November 3rd, 2013 at 9:49 pm
schiano is the headcoach so can’t blame sullivan…only this coaching staff is idiotic enough to get in shotgun on 1st down with the lead and get no yards then proceed to try and run the ball up the middle on the next play which obviously forces us to throw on 3rd down…..hey ill admit that glennon is playing great and much better freeman but he’s no damn andrew luck and this dumb ahole is putting all the pressure on this kid in the second half in the house of the loudest fans in the nfl…that screams i have no idea what the hell im doing
you know what it looks like….his coaches do their job in the first half then for some reason this idiot tries to take over coaching duties of everyone. theres no way i believe sullivan called such a great game in the first half then lost his mind….this is schiano’s doing i think that idiot tries to take over the game in the second half

seattle stacked the box the entire game, they had one high safety all game and james still was running all over their defense….we’ve never played that defense once….schiano is to damn stupid to realize that a safeties job is to cover so who’s our cover corner? if revis could shutdown golden tate all by himself then why couldnt we stack the box to stop their best weapon or double everyone else since golden tate wasnt doing anything
it’s obvious that every second half teams adjust and send revis’s man on drag routes to give his man room and ill be damn if it doesnt work every week, its like it’s a suprise or something….we’ve got radio talk show hosts that can coach better than schiano EASILY i could think of 4 off the top of my head. hell i think joebucs can do better than schiano, it wouldnt be that hard to out think him…
November 3rd, 2013 at 10:11 pm
They couldn’t figure out how to get VJacks involved. The players did everything in their power to win the game (props to Tandy on the timely INT). Coaching can and is holding this team back.
I liked Glennon today, but there were no real attempts downfield. Is that because of the coaching or his inability to hit the deep ball?
November 3rd, 2013 at 10:58 pm
Hey joe,
Why is it in the 4th quarter it looks like the bucs D ran out of gas? I thought shiano was suppose to have these guys in shape? Plus it’s not like Seattle had the ball that long in the first half I think it was 11 mins or something.
November 3rd, 2013 at 11:02 pm
look, it’s a toss up. Glennon was 17/23 with two TD’s and you act like we had no business throwing the ball?? I would imagine the defense would be looking for the run. It’s a crap shoot. It’s a crap shoot. I would probably have gone with the run but it wasn’t like Glennon hadn’t been throwing well all day. He didn’t play like a rookie today and if it weren’t for Glennon’s arm we wouldn’t have even been in the game so why act like calling on him to complete a pass was too big of a task? It’s just typical ‘hindsight is 20/20’ from an armchair coach blogger.
November 3rd, 2013 at 11:04 pm
Mike:
If you are talking about the defense, it wasn’t just the fourth quarter where the Bucs got boatraced.
November 3rd, 2013 at 11:21 pm
It looked like the offense ran out of gas in OT.
I agree with Joe. 3 points isn’t going to cut it in the second half.
As I mentioned earlier is the inability to adjust & get VJack involved. Also they really never went downfield with Glennon. That is concerning & would help the run attack. Hats off to the O-line. Hopefully this carries over to Monday night.
November 3rd, 2013 at 11:27 pm
Did no one else notice Schiano covering his mouth calling plays when we were on offense in the second half??
His meddling is what stalled our offense. I think he drifted away from the run, and called on Glennon more hoping Glennon would light it up. Just so he could use Glennon’s progress to keep his job. Dumbass.
November 3rd, 2013 at 11:33 pm
Did anyone see glennon throw a bad pass.
all I saw was throw aways and a dropped touchdown in the endzone.
November 4th, 2013 at 12:05 am
Do some of you really watch the game? How many times do you see him look down field? He also gets outside to keep the play alive, still looking down field. But If it is NOT there exactly how do you expect him to go long? Alot of times when receivers do get open it’s to late. Until VJ is not our only big play receiver, don’t look for the bomb.
November 4th, 2013 at 12:33 am
I was playing against James in FF so I called up Schiano and had him put an end to that crap at halftime.
November 4th, 2013 at 6:39 pm
Fire Schanio…..originally I had Schaino’s back when he came into the league and immediately pissed everyone off with his fumble drill on the kneel down in NY. but slowly by slowly he has really made me think that he is a failure. Instead of drafting a stud lineman, fullback or tight end to help Josh. He got rid of our leading pass rusher, did not let our pro bowl running back (Blount) play last year, and then got rid of our franchise quarterback. Well, I think that they should go with wanastadt the rest of the year because “I think that he gives us the best chance to win”…..Also, if you live within 100 miles of Tampa get an antenna and you will get free digital TV and watch all the bucs and Dolphin games for free…..
November 4th, 2013 at 7:52 pm
Yeah, dumb. It’s like the kids I see playing Madden with no sense of clock control. And I watched the entire game online via DirecTV Sunday Ticket online, no problem so maybe the poster with the second half issue should check his ISP.
November 4th, 2013 at 9:24 pm
Lets not forget the defense gave up a ton of yards
In the second half….this was clearly on the defense
Offense gave defense a 21 pt lead….
November 4th, 2013 at 9:29 pm
Our offense needs to go no huddle from here on out pick up
The tempo..we have the youthful stamina .to be extremely sucessful
With this type of offense..
