One of three quarterbacks to lead the Bucs to the NFL title game, King minced no words on WDAE-AM 620 yesterday when talking about the Bucs’ performance in Detroit. “That’s a quality win.” King now wonders, after seeing a looser — on and off the field — Greg Schiano run onside kicks, fake field goals, reverses, and cut down on silly line stunts, whether this is a new Schiano or whether the head coach will settle in somewhere between where he is now and the conservative “dictator” Schiano was previously. “If they decide to move forward with him,” King notes.

I’m not sure who Schiano is now. I’ve definitely seen a changed football team in the last 3 or 4 games. Has Schiano listened to his players and made some changes or have the players finally got the picture and is now doing what he wanted all along?
McCoy spoke to Schiano last year about the stunting and he changed for a game or two and McCoy had success temporarily, but we opened up the season this year with the same stunting defensive scheme. After an 8 game loss, McCoy appealed again and the front seven is playing well. Will it last? Or is Schiano driven to prove to the NFL that the Rutgers-borne defense will work?
On offense we have seen a number of creative plays (RB pass, pass to Penn, fake punt, onside kick) recently. Will this continue or will Schiano revert back to his conservative style of football once he is out of the woods? Schiano is by nature a conservative coach. He wants to run the ball as much as possible. Did anyone notice the first two plays after the punt block in the Lions game? He ran twice and Glennon took the yard loss on the rollout on third down and Lindell missed the FG. It seems he played safe (backfired), not letting Glennon take shots in the end zone.
Will Schiano scheme and play to the strength of his playmakers? Will he relax some player rules and restrictions (A/C temp, pasta)? Will he continue the victory formation charge? Will he make halftime and second half adjustments? Will he complete the roster with needed positions other than RB, like pass-catching TE and speedy slot receiver?
I am perfectly willing for Schiano to return for a third year, but I don’t know if he can permanently make the personal coaching style changes (the types of changes we’ve seen recently) necessary to get to the playoffs or better yet win a Super Bowl.

Jesus christ people…..coaches are only as good as their on field leader.
Schanio knew more than anyone else that freeman was a bust and just in it for a paycheck.
Schanio gave us the next tom brady in the 3rd round. For that reason alone he can stay as long as he wants.
is there anyone in tampabay who would take RG3 over Glennon right now? Besides shawn king.

Schiano is probably pretty much the same coach he was when they were losing, but as we know the fine line between idiot dictator college coach and rejuvenated enlightened NFL coach can be as simple as stringing wins together. The team has had a few things finally go their way for a change and are playing with some confidence. Keep winning coach and you just might be perceived as the next ‘Belichickian genius’ by the very same people who branded you a pasta Nazi earlier.

I don’t think Greg Schiano has changed a bit. It was claimed by his assistants that over the bye he told his entire coaching staff to take that time to figure out ways for them to do their jobs better. Then he let them implement those methods. I think he has always let his coaching staff do their jobs.
An example is Sullivan, who decided moving up to the box would help him OC better, as he has done the box thing in the past. Our special teams coach is trying all kinds of things too.
This is not Schiano changing, this is his coaches doing their jobs better. The players have even said so. They’ve said that Schiano has been rock steady through all of this. Off the field, he tells his coaches and players his plans, then he puts it i the hamds of his staff to make it happen.
Same as Dungy did. Same as Bill in New England.
And the players have made it clear…none of the media stuff was true. It was made up to make Schiano look bad. But Schiano hamdled it like a champ…and the players saw that and rallied behind him.
