Rainey Wins High NFL Honor
November 20th, 2013The Lions may have Calvin Johnson, but the Bucs have Bobby Rainey, who was just named NFC Offensive Player of the Week. Rainey’s 163 yards rushing on 30 carries and three touchdowns (one through the air) against the Falcons made this honor a no-brainer.
Joe has been stunned by how rockstar general manager Mark Dominik hit on both Mike James (60 carries for 295 yards) and Rainey. Throw in LeGarrette Blount and there’s hard evidence of how you can find extremely productive running backs in the late rounds or on the street. But you still have to pick the right ones, which isn’t so easy. See Michael Smith, Derrick Ward and Kregg Lumpkin.
Kudos to Dominik for being on the rise with his backfield selections, including Doug Martin.

Could not be happier for Rainey! Also, Dom, Coaches and OL deserve credit. It’s due.

Shelton Quarles is doing a phenomenal job finding talent. And talent that is ready to “plug n play” into the system. Thank goodness Quarles and Taggart have a relationship, to help save the Bucs year.

The question is…..What do we do going forward?
We have…
Doug Martin, Mike James, Bobby Rainey, Jeff Demps, Michael Smith, Brian Leonard, Michael Hill, Eric Lorig, Lonnie Pryor and Spencer Larson on the roster.
That’s 10 RB/FB on the roster….some will obviously be cut…but some are worthy of trades….

Next years roster simply is not relevant right now.
Finding a way to beat Detroit Sunday is.

I hope we keep all three, spread the love around, and somebody will eventually catch fire.

I’m glad Dominick picked Rainey up. I was excited about this pick up because I was one of the unfortunate souls at the Bucs/Ravens preseason game where Rainey was tearing our defense up. I’m actually surprised Dom didn’t pounce on him when the Ravens cut him, but I guess at that time we had a log-jam at RB. Regardless, I’m glad he’s here now and give Dominick props.

Good for Rainey! Well deserved. I like the way he picks his way through the hole and into the 2nd level. Kudos to the OL as well.

You guys still want show Dominik the door?
November 20th, 2013 at 2:15 pm
gotta keep all three, this season is example why. they all bring different elements and one ankle twist and we will be cpmplaining about depth at RB if we trade one…
Now if you have to package one RB to move up to get Clowny, than do it.

Joe,
In Journalism there are these things called “facts.” You are making an assumption that Mark Dominik found a hidden gem. He could just as easily and even more likely be a Schiano find since Rainey has a close connection to Ray Rice.
Dear FactsMatter, Schiano himself credited Dominik for the Rainey signing, saying the team didn’t even have a need at the position when Rainey was signed a month ago. No need for your attack attitude here. The rest of your comment was deleted. –Joe

I’ve been saying this all year. Martin is one of my favorite football players, but it was the wrong pick in last years draft. We had Blount returning from a 1000yd season, it was unnecessary to draft an RB that high when they’re being picked up late or undrafted and producing (Alfred Morris, Zac Stacy, etc…) Look at the top picks in last years draft:
Trent Richardson – largely ineffective
Doug Martin – out with injury and replaced by two backs that have both had a better season than him
David Wilson – largely ineffective and hurt…
Like I said, Martin is one of my favorite players in the league and I have a #22 jersey hanging in the closet as we speak….but that pick was wrong. Should have attacked the front 7 or TE position. Thoughts?
